Chiefs RG Jon Asamoah will miss Week 11 versus the Bengals after undergoing thumb surgery.

Asamoah has been one of the few bright spot spots on Kansas City's offense this season, and is coming off an excellent game versus the Steelers. Journeyman fill-in Russ Hochstein is a clear downgrade as a run blocker.

Redskins first-round WR Josh Doctson's Achilles' injury has lingered since early May, but he insists he's not worried about his health for the regular season.

NFL.com's Ian Rapoport reports Ravens fourth-round RB Kenneth Dixon has been diagnosed with a Grade 1 MCL sprain.

Rapsheet calls it a "minor injury," but Dixon will probably be on the shelf for at least a week. It's a big blow for a day-three pick who has (had?) a chance to put himself in the mix for a big early-season role. It helps solidify both Justin Forsett and Buck Allen's standing as the Nos. 1 and 2 on the depth chart. Dixon could still make noise if he recovers quickly and has an impressive preseason.

Vikings extended coach Mike Zimmer's contract.

The terms were not announced. "There is no doubt Zimmer is going to be our coach for a long time," GM Rick Spielman said. It's a bit unusual for a third-year coach with zero playoff victories to already be getting an extension, but Zimmer has done an undeniably excellent job through two seasons. He's settled the defense and helped set a tone on offense. Zimmer is known for being fiery, but has been surprisingly calm and levelheaded as a head man. He's a born head coach.

Pro Football Talk reports Bears first-round OLB Leonard Floyd was carted off the practice field Thursday for "heat-related" reasons.

Coach John Fox said after practice that Floyd was "sick." Of course, we would have already known the injury was not serious if the Bears did not have a ridiculously restrictive policy on reporting practice injuries. Thankfully, it looks like Floyd will be fine.

Coach Hue Jackson expects to name his starting quarterback before the first preseason game.

Spoiler Alert: It will be Robert Griffin III, who is expected to get the vast majority of first-team reps despite reportedly being outplayed by Josh McCown during the offseason program. With Griffin seemingly locked in as the starter, the Browns could look to trade McCown during camp.

Browns coach Hue Jackson said Josh Gordon is "starting with a clean slate."

"We certainly welcome him back. Will support him," Browns EVP Sashi Brown added. "For us it's about Josh wanting to make a change. We'll find out very quickly if he's serious." It sounds like Gordon will be given every opportunity to prove himself to the new coaching staff. As long as he keeps out of trouble, he should be on the field when first eligible Week 5.

Ravens fourth-round RB Kenneth Dixon limped off the practice field Thursday with a left leg injury, but he is expected to be fine.

Dixon landed awkwardly after being shoved out of bounds and had to be helped off the field. Coach John Harbaugh said the injury was just a "slight thing with the knee." There is a chance he is back on the field Friday.

The Buffalo News' Vic Carucci reports walk-year QB Tyrod Taylor and the Bills reaching a long-term agreement before the season "is a possibility."

Carucci reports the two sides are talking "relatively frequently" and have "open lines of communication." This is a surprising development after Taylor appeared resigned to playing out the season without an extension earlier this month. Taylor is set to earn $3 million in the final year of his deal.

Jets could decide to move on from Geno Smith or 2015 fourth-rounder Bryce Petty after re-signing Ryan Fitzpatrick.

Even with Fitz back in the fold, the Jets have questions at quarterback. Second-round pick Christian Hackenberg is guaranteed a roster spot, but he is unlikely to be ready for a backup role this year. Smith could serve as the backup, but keeping him would require New York to either cut Petty after just one season or retain four quarterbacks, which would hurt the depth at another position. Ultimately, we expect Petty to be the odd man out.

Redskins coach Jay Gruden said the team would consider bringing in a veteran running back.

Gruden talked up the depth they already have, saying Chris Thompson "looked good" during the offseason and the team is "excited" about rookie Keith Marshall, but he acknowledged they could look to the free-agent market. Matt Jones is currently locked in as the starter, and now that Arian Foster has signed with the Dolphins, there are not any free agents of note who could come in and challenge his spot. Jones is shaping up as a workload RB2.

Redskins placed first-round WR Josh Doctson (Achilles') on the active/PUP.

Doctson can be activated at any time, and NFL Network's Ian Rapoport reports his stay on the PUP will be "very short." Still, it is another blow to his chances of earning a big role as a rookie. Washington also placed LB Perry Riley (foot), LG Shawn Lauvao (foot/ankle), WR Reggie Diggs (knee), and TE Derek Carrier (knee) on the PUP.
