Coach Jim Schwartz admitted that LT Jeff Backus (hamstring) is questionable for Thursday's game against the Texans.

Backus's remarkable streak of 186 straight starts is in jeopardy. He left Sunday's loss to the Packers in the second quarter with a hamstring injury and the Lions probably want to get an extended look at first-round pick Riley Reiff anyway.

Steelers coach Mike Tomlin said this is not the first time he has heard Ben Roethlisberger talk about retirement.

Roethlisberger said on Tuesday he would "consider all options" including "if there’s going to be a next season" in the next couple weeks. Tomlin said he is taking the comments seriously, but he is not alarmed or surprised by the notion. Ben is only 34 and likely will have to return a large chunk of his signing bonus if he decides to walk away this offseason. There is little chance he makes that decision.

Steelers coach Mike Tomlin said he is in wait-and-see mode with suspended WR Martavis Bryant.

Bryant applied for reinstatement earlier this month, and Tomlin said he is "hopeful" the receiver will be allowed back in the league. As we have learned from Aldon Smith, being eligible for reinstatement does not guarantee it will happen, but Bryant seems to have taken the necessary steps during his ban. Tomlin's hope could end up being well-founded.

Falcons C Alex Mack (ankle) said he will be ready for the Super Bowl.

Mack is reportedly dealing with a "swollen, painful sprained ankle" which will keep him out of practice this week, but it was always likely he would gut it out in the biggest game of the year. Still, his practice participation will be worth monitoring next week.

The MMQB's Andrew Brandt does not believe there will be a "robust market" for Tony Romo.

"At this point in his career, which has recently been dominated by injuries, he cannot be counted on as a starting quarterback in 2017," Brandt wrote, "and trade offers will reflect that." Owed $14 million in 2017 and with no guarantees left, Romo's contract is not a deterrent to a potential trade, but it seems likely he will be available for free on the open market at some point this offseason, which is obviously a more palatable price for a quarterback who needs to prove he can last more than one or two games. With the specter of retirement also certain to hurt his trade value, the Cowboys will be lucky to get anything for Romo.

The MMQB's Andrew Brandt believes it is "delusional" to think Jimmy Garoppolo will fetch a first-round pick.

ESPN's Adam Schefter believes the Eagles' haul for Sam Bradford (1st and 4th) is the "starting point" in trade negotiations for Garoppolo, but Brandt does not believe the two situations are comparable, as the Vikings were desperate after losing Teddy Bridgewater to a serious knee injury. If the Patriots cannot nab a first or early-second, they could decide to let Garoppolo play out the final year of his contract and hope for a high conditional pick when he inevitably signs a massive deal in free agency.

ESPN's Rich Cimini reports the Jets are interested in former Texans OC George Godsey for their vacant offensive coordinator position.

Cimini reports an interview could happen as soon as Tuesday at the Senior Bowl. The Texans offense struggled with Godsey running the show in 2016, and he had his play-calling duties stripped at one point in the season. He did good work with a slew of replacement-level quarterbacks in 2015, however, and cannot really be blamed for the disaster which is Brock Osweiler. Considering the lack of interest in the job around the league, this would not be a bad hire for the Jets. Cimini reports they are also interested in Saints WRs coach John Morton.

Jason La Canfora of CBS Sports reports the Browns are "very likely" to place the franchise tag on Terrelle Pryor.

After locking up Jamie Collins to a long-term contract, Pryor is the next order of business for Cleveland. La Canfora believes it "would be crazy" for Pryor to sign a contract right now, suggesting he thinks the receiver will cash in as a free agent, but Pryor has already told his agents he wants to stay in Cleveland. It is not out of the question the two sides work out a deal. The tag should be worth north of $15 million for receivers in 2017.

Steelers signed Karlos Williams to a reserve/future contract.

Williams still has four games left on a 10-game suspension for substance abuse he picked up in late November, but he will get a shot to earn a roster spot during the offseason program. That shot will depend on his ability to stay in shape, which is one of many factors which derailed his career in the last year. Pittsburgh also signed RB Dreamius Smith, RB Gus Johnson, RB Brandon Brown-Dukes, DB Brandon Dixon, OT Matt Feiler, DB Jacob Hagen, DB Mike Hilton, OT Keavon Milton, WR Dez Stewart, and WR Marcus Tucker to reserve/future deals.

Browns signed LB Jamie Collins to a four-year, $50 million contract through 2020.

The deal had been in the works for days but finally became official on Monday. Collins' new contract calls for $26 million in guaranteed money. "Jamie was great to have in our building this season, and we look forward to him being a Cleveland Brown for a number of years to come," said Browns Executive VP of Football Operations Sashi Brown. Collins had been in the last year of his rookie contract, which prompted his mid-season trade from New England. He's now the fourth highest-paid linebacker on an annual basis behind Von Miller, Justin Houston and Clay Matthews.

Le'Veon Bell rushed six times for 20 yards and wasn't targeted in the passing game Sunday in the Steelers' AFC Championship Game loss to the Patriots.

Bell exited with a left groin injury late in the first quarter. He returned later in the half before leaving again on the same drive. Bell remained in uniform for the duration of the game, though it was pretty obvious he wasn’t coming back in. He ended up playing just 11 snaps while ceding workhorse duties to DeAngelo Williams. It was a disappointing end to a marvelous year for the fourth-year back. Bell is headed for free agency but the Steelers have made it clear they plan to give him the franchise tag if the two sides are unable to reach a long-term deal. You could make an argument for taking Bell first overall in fantasy drafts next summer, though Arizona’s David Johnson is also in that conversation.

Ben Roethlisberger completed 31-of-47 passes for 314 yards with one touchdown and one interception Sunday in the Steelers' AFC Championship Game loss to the Patriots.

Roethlisberger matched Tom Brady punch for punch in the first half, completing 16-of-22 passes for 136 yards before the break. New England pulled away in the second half, however, and Roethlisberger couldn’t do much to stop the bleeding. Roethlisberger didn’t have much success throwing deep, often settling for check-downs to Jesse James and slants over the middle to Eli Rogers. His fourth-quarter interception was nowhere close to his intended target. Roethlisberger redeemed himself by throwing a 30-yard touchdown pass to Cobi Hamilton on the following drive, but it was too little too late. It didn’t end the way he would have liked, but Roethlisberger was still pretty darn good this year, even with a relatively thin receiving corps. It would be a huge boost to Roethlisberger and the entire passing game if suspended wideout Martavis Bryant returns to start opposite Antonio Brown next season.
