Coach Jim Schwartz admitted that LT Jeff Backus (hamstring) is questionable for Thursday's game against the Texans.

Backus's remarkable streak of 186 straight starts is in jeopardy. He left Sunday's loss to the Packers in the second quarter with a hamstring injury and the Lions probably want to get an extended look at first-round pick Riley Reiff anyway.

Seahawks placed RB Thomas Rawls (ankle) on the active/PUP list.

Seattle also put Jimmy Graham on PUP for the start of training camp. Rawls isn't fully recovered from December surgery, but there isn't concern over his Week 1 status. He's in line to take over as the No. 1 back when healthy.

ESPN's Adam Schefter reports 49ers RT Anthony Davis reported to training camp on time.

There were rumors Davis delayed his application for reinstatement in the hopes he would not have to play in San Francisco, but he applied on Monday and is reporting on time to camp. Erik Pears is currently the starter at right tackle, but Davis should be able to easily beat him out if he is in shape. That is a big if at this point, however.

Chiefs signed LT Eric Fisher to a four-year, $48 million extension through 2021.

ESPN's Adam Schefter reports the deal includes $40 million guaranteed. The extension will be tacked onto the over $15 million he was scheduled to make in the next two years. It is a massive deal for a player who was not guaranteed to have his fifth-year option picked up in May. Fisher did show better after being moved back to left tackle midway through last season, but he was still league average at best. The Chiefs better hope he takes a big step forward or this deal could end up looking like a mistake.

ESPN's Field Yates reports holdout WR DeAndre Hopkins is owed a $445,000 roster bonus on August 4.

Hopkins will not receive the bonus if he is still on the reserve/did not report list. With the potential to lose almost a third of the money he is owed this season, this bonus could act as a deadline of sorts for the hold out. That said, Hopkins has already shown he is serious by risking a $40,000-a-day fine for not showing up. Set to earn just $9.36 million over the next two seasons, Hopkins is rightfully upset with his contract. The Texans should do right by their best playmaker.

Giants coach Ben McAdoo said Victor Cruz is "on schedule."

Cruz practiced for the second-straight day on Saturday. Normally that would not be considered an accomplishment, but it is a good sign for a player who has not played a snap since October of 2014. No matter his health, Cruz looks like he will remain behind rookie Sterling Shepard on the depth chart.

Duke Johnson said new coach Hue Jackson has made it clear he wants to run the ball and establish a physical mentality.

This matches comments made by RBs coach Kirby Wilson, who said in May the Browns will be a "run-oriented football team." A smashmouth plan -- perhaps even an exotic one -- sounds great in July, but Cleveland will need the defense to hold up their end of the bargain to execute a run-heavy offense. Johnson is currently behind Isaiah Crowell for early-down work, but he could eat into that lead with a strong camp.

Bills suspended RB Karlos Williams (active/NFI) said he is "not far at all" from his playing weight.

Williams reported to minicamp severely overweight, but it sounds like he has gotten it under control over the last month. Suspended the first four weeks for violating the league's substance-abuse policy, he will have some extra time to get into shape. After a terrible offseason, Williams has some serious work to do to earn back the No. 2 job.

Giants coach Ben McAdoo said he "trusts" second-round WR Sterling Shepard.

"We're not going to be afraid to use young players," McAdoo added. Even with Victor Cruz active for the start of camp, Shepard has been working as the starting receiver opposite Odell Beckham. Poised to be the second-most targeted player in a high-volume attack, Shepard has legit 100-target upside as a rookie.

WEEI’s Ryan Hannable believes Julian Edelman’s work early in camp suggests he is close to returning.

Edelman was spotted running routes off to the side on Thursday, and he was seen running hills on Friday. Hannable does not think Edelman would be participating in either activity if he was not close to getting back on the field. Danny Amendola (knee/ankle) was also seen working with Edelman, perhaps indicating he is close to a return as well.

Patriots G Jonathan Cooper was carted off the practice field Saturday with a right foot injury.

NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport reports he is dealing with a "plantar fascia issue." Acquired in the Chandler Jones trade this offseason, the former first-round pick was hoping to get his career back on track with the Patriots after injuries played a role in his struggles with the Cardinals. He was working with the first team at right guard prior to the injury.

Dolphins coach Adam Gase said DE Dion Jordan is in "step one of like 500" in his return to the NFL.

Gase added Jordan was in the building on Saturday, but he is not sure when the former first-round pick will begin practicing. Jordan was conditionally reinstated earlier this week, but he will have to meet certain requirements to be allowed to practice. With the Dolphins apparently set to pay his $1.69 million roster bonus, Jordan should be on the final roster if he stays out of trouble.
