Rob Gronkowski (forearm) has been ruled out for Sunday's game against the Jaguars.

Gronkowski practiced on a limited basis this week and was listed as questionable on the injury report, but was never expected to play. The Patriots will look to get him a brief tuneup in the regular season finale. Aaron Hernandez, Wes Welker, and Brandon Lloyd will continue to carry the load in New England's passing attack. LB Brandon Spikes (knee, ankle) and CB Alfonzo Dennard (knee) did not travel with the team and have also been downgraded to out for Sunday's game.

Lions president Rod Wood is hoping to introduce Calvin Johnson to GM Bob Quinn sometime next week.

Wood said he's kept in touch with Johnson, exchanging texts as recently as Wednesday. Johnson hasn't officially announced his retirement yet and the Lions are hoping a sit-down with Quinn will help him change his mind. If Megatron does return in 2016, the Lions will likely have to re-work his contract.

Browns owner Jimmy Haslam said the team has reached out to Johnny Manziel "several times" without a response.

"We're not worried about Johnny Manziel the football player, we're worried about Johnny Manziel the person," said Haslam. Manziel's life is spiraling out of control. He was dropped by his agent on Friday and has reportedly refused to go to rehab despite his family's insistence. The most ominous quote came from Manziel's father, who told the Dallas Morning News, "I truly believe if they can't get him help, he won't live to see his 24th birthday." Manziel is living in denial right now and needs to get help immediately.

Free agent RB Montee Ball was arrested Friday morning in Madison, Wisconsin following an altercation with his girlfriend.

Police were called to Ball's hotel around 3:40 a.m. after he allegedly pushed his girlfriend into a table. "The woman told police she had a dispute with her boyfriend," said police spokesman Joel DeSpain. "She said he put his hands on her, picked her up and threw her." The woman reportedly suffered a cut that required stitches. Ball was taken to Dane County Jail on a tentative charge of "substantial battery." Ball spent time on New England's practice squad late last year, but didn't see any game action and was rumored to be significantly out of shape. It's quite possible Ball's NFL career is over.

The Washington Post reports Peyton Manning hired private investigators to question the main source of Al Jazeera's documentary on performance-enhancing drug use.

The men apparently made a bit of a scene at Charlie Sly's parents' house. Manning's camp hasn't denied it. "Our thinking was it would be very helpful to find whoever it was who was making up lies about Peyton, and figure out why someone would fabricate information like this," spokesman Ari Fleischer said. Sly recanted his claims before the documentary even aired. He was clearly feeling some pressure from Manning's end.

Both Dallas and Fort Worth police have opted not to press charges against Johnny Manziel in his alleged domestic violence case.

ABC Dallas reported disturbing allegations from Manziel's ex-girlfriend on Thursday, but she refused to cooperate with police. Manziel is lucky with the law, but from an NFL perception standpoint, the damage has already been done. Charges or no charges, Manziel seems like a person in need of serious help. It's difficult to envision him being on someone's 53-man roster in 2016.

NFL Network's Ian Rapoport reports the Eagles and DeMarco Murray "are not in a good place."

Rapoport reports Murray has not asked to be traded or released, and the Eagles are not interested in cutting him at this point. Rapoport did say "it's fair to say Murray has eyes on greener pastures," however, and the Eagles are likely not happy with the amount of money they have invested at running back. Murray's contract makes cutting him almost impossible, but Philly may start shopping him in trades if the relationship is truly broken. Murray gained 702 yards on 193 carries (3.64 YPC) in the first season of a five-year, $40 million deal.

The Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel believes it's "a good bet" Eddie Lacy played "at least" 25 pounds heavier than his playing weight of 234.

In other words, beat writer Rob Reischel thinks Lacy was near 260. Lacy's weigh-in at Alabama's 2013 Pro Day was 5-foot-11, 231. We've gone back to check Lacy's college tape as a comparison tool, and he looks considerably more fit and slender in Crimson Tide than Lacy appeared to be this past year. Wrote Reischel, "In fact, from the waist down, you couldn't tell the difference between Lacy and 301-pound center Corey Linsley."

Packers coach Mike McCarthy expects Jordy Nelson to "come back better than ever" after missing 2015 with a torn ACL.

Jordy's been running at full speed for nearly a month; his recovery appears to be going as smoothly as can be. "He's so far ahead with the rehab, he looks great," said McCarthy. "There's no reason to think he won't be good as new." Nelson turns 31 this May. He should have at least a few solid-if-not-great years left. Nelson is intriguing as a sneaky buy target in Dynasty leagues.

The Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel expects the Packers to move on from free agent James Jones.

Beat writer Rob Reischel believes the Packers "figure to go with younger players" at wide receiver, parting with 32-year-old (in March) Jones. Although Jones was Aaron Rodgers' most reliable 2015 target, his separation skills were clearly lacking and Jones rarely makes plays after the catch. The Packers will welcome back Jordy Nelson (ACL) and Randall Cobb while Jeff Janis, Jared Abbrederis, Davante Adams, and Ty Montgomery vie for complementary roles.

CBS Sports' Jason La Canfora reports the Jets "have not and are not interested" in Colin Kaepernick.

The NY Daily News reported Tuesday that Kaepernick wants to play for the Jets. Although La Canfora reports the feeling isn't mutual, he does note new 49ers coach Chip Kelly "has done nothing to build a relationship" with Kaepernick, and a trade "remains very likely." Per La Canfora, Kap "has wanted out" "for quite some time," and a divorce is "impending." Kaepernick is 28 years old and has accounted for 67 career touchdowns. Even with his lofty contract, we suspect the 49ers could net a second-day draft pick if they get serious about shopping him.

ESPN's Adam Schefter reports the Rams "have had internal discussions" about signing Peyton Manning and are "monitoring the situation."

The Rams are desperate for quarterback help, and nothing screams making a splash in their return to L.A. like signing Manning, even if he is merely a shell of his former self. And that may be generous. Manning turns 40 next month, and he and coach Jeff Fisher have a history dating back to AFC South battles between Fisher's Titans and Manning's Colts. The Broncos hold a $19 million option on Manning for 2016, but most expect them to move on after Manning battled injury and interceptions this season, leading to a 67.9 QB rating. Nick Foles (69.0) and Case Keenum (87.7) were actually better in that category. Signing Manning would be a PR thing at this point in his career.
