According to The Sideline View's Adam Caplan, Gene Smith will not be retained as Jaguars GM.

Mike Mularkey has an outside chance to stay on as head coach, but only if Shad Khan hires a GM who's a big fan of his. In all likelihood, the Jaguars will end up clearing house as Khan pursues a GM willing to take on Tim Tebow. The scariest part of what's going on in Jacksonville these days is Khan making personnel decisions, and pushing his agenda upon the front office and coaching staff. It's no secret that Smith has been one of the NFL's least successful GMs, but his power was clearly stripped as soon as Khan bought the team.

Speaking Tuesday, Giants coach Ben McAdoo said it was "too early" to discuss moving LG Justin Pugh back to tackle.

The Giants' left guard the past two seasons, Pugh spent the first two years of his career at right tackle. It's become a topic of discussion after the Giants signed D.J. Fluker and brought back John Jerry. Bobby Hart was ineffective at right tackle last season, but the G-Men could be leery of having their best lineman change positions once again.

The Bengals will use recently re-signed OT Andre Smith at guard.

The Bengals want to let Cedric Ogbuehi and Jake Fisher sink or swim at tackle. Smith hasn't played a single snap at guard in his eight-year career, but the Bengals have only 2016 fifth-rounder Christian Westerman at right guard. Smith received a $1.55 million signing bonus, so the Bengals are clearly serious about the experiment. Smith also provides valuable insurance at tackle.

The Colts' official website believes the "arrow is pointing up" on fourth-year TE Erik Swoope.

In-house reporter Kevin Bowen believes new GM Chris Ballard "really likes" Swoope, who is currently No. 2 on the depth chart behind Jack Doyle. A 6-foot-5 former basketball player, Swoope made big plays in 2016, averaging an eye-popping 19.8 yards on his 15 receptions. He could be a preferred red zone threat in 2017.

Asked about the Richard Sherman trade rumors, Seahawks GM John Schneider said he listens to many proposals every offseason, and "98 percent" of them never happen.

Schneider's words are true, but not exactly a denial of Michael Lombardi's report that the team is "open" to trading Sherman. A move is extremely unlikely for a variety of reasons — Sherman's age, salary and continued effectiveness amongst them — but at least publicly, Schneider isn't nailing the door shut on a trade. Were such a blockbuster to happen, it would likely occur during draft week.

Saints GM Mickey Loomis confirmed the team is "kicking the tires" on Patriots CB Malcolm Butler.

"We’re kicking the tires, I guess is the best way to describe that," were Loomis' exact words. "We’ll see how that process works." The "process" has been going on for at least two weeks. Butler visited New Orleans on March 14. The Pats, as usual, aren't blinking, and are waiting to extract the best-possible offer. Owner Bob Kraft said on Monday it wasn't the team's "intention" to trade Butler. A restricted free agent, Butler has yet to sign his $3.91 million tender.

Browns coach Hue Jackson says the team has no interest in trading the No. 1 overall pick.

"No," coach Hue Jackson said. "I can tell you no on that one." The Browns appear to be zeroing in on Texas A&M edge rusher Myles Garrett, a player they've reportedly assigned an "astronomical grade," and believe can be an "immediate franchise-changer." If Cleveland addresses quarterback on Day 1, it will be at No. 12, or after a trade up.

The NFL has banned defensive leaping on field goal and extra point attempts.

The league has also approved automatic ejections for "egregious" hits to the head. Shortening the overtime period from 15 to 10 minutes was tabled. The "leaping" ban was instituted in the interest of player safety. As far as we know, no linemen were hurt in the process last season.

Titans coach Mike Mularkey reiterated on Tuesday that DeMarco Murray remains the team's "workhorse."

Mularkey said the same thing last month. It stands to reason that sophomore Derrick Henry will get more opportunities following an impressive rookie campaign, but at least to begin the year, the Titans will attempt to maintain the status quo. Headed into his age-29 season, Murray faded down the stretch in 2016.

Jason Witten's new five-year deal is worth $29.6 million, but includes no new guaranteed money.

In other words, it's mostly a salary cap contortion that lowers Witten's 2017 cap number and takes care of his 2018 "will he or won't he return to the Cowboys?" status ahead of time. Going on 35, Witten's career is on a year-by-year basis at this point.

Colts coach Chuck Pagano said adding a young runner is "paramount."

Frank Gore remained reasonably effective last season, but he will turn 34 in May and is clearly trending downward. Indy did re-sign Robert Turbin earlier this month, but they need to look toward the future at the position. It will not be surprising if the Colts spend an early pick on a running back.

Eagles signed DE Chris Long, formerly of the Patriots, to a two-year contract.

NFL Network's Ian Rapoport reports he will make close to the $2.4 million he earned with the Patriots last season. The Eagles have plenty of talent along the defensive line, but Long is a solid addition both as a situational pass rusher and locker-room asset. 32 today, Long recorded four sacks during his one year in New England.
