Vernon Davis was forced from San Francisco's Week 16 game against the Seahawks with a concussion, and will not return.

Looking to pull down a catch near the goal-line toward the end of the first quarter, Davis found himself on the receiving end of the hit of the year from Seahawks S Kam Chancellor. Chancellor was flagged for the colossal break-up even though replays revealed it to be legal. Davis bounced up surprisingly quick, but was clearly clearing the cobwebs as he headed to the sideline. He'll now be questionable at best for Week 17, while the 49ers will have to lean on Delanie Walker at tight end. Davis had just one catch for 27 yards before departing.

Patriots placed RB Dion Lewis (knee) on the reserve/PUP list.

He will be eligible to return in Week 7, but it is unclear if he will be ready by then. After the team's Week 9 bye might be a more realistic target. Set to miss most of the fantasy year, Lewis does not needs to be drafted in standard formats.

Speaking Tuesday, Vikings coach Mike Zimmer confirmed Teddy Bridgewater's knee injury is "significant."

Zimmer refused to formally announce that Bridgewater is out for the season, but seemed resigned to the fact. The Vikes will get official word after more testing. Anything from a torn ACL to torn patellar tendon is a possibility. Shaun Hill is now the starter, though the Vikings will be searching for more depth. Colin Kaepernick is the biggest name available, but his collapsed play, off-the-field distractions and salary are all significant hurdles to an acquisition.

Redskins placed RB Keith Marshall on injured reserve with a sprained elbow, ending his season.

Marshall was originally given a three-week timeline upon going down in the third preseason game, but either his prognosis got worse, or the Redskins used his injury as an opportunity to free up a roster spot. Marshall was a hyped seventh-rounder out of Georgia, but didn't make nearly as much noise once the pads went on. Injuries are nothing new for Marshall, whose time in the SEC was marked by one ailment after another. UDFA Rob Kelley will begin the year as Matt Jones' direct backup.

Steelers placed TE Ladarius Green (ankle, headaches) on the reserve/PUP list.

It was the expected outcome even though no one really knows what's truly sidelining the fifth-year tight end. Green and the Steelers both claim it is his ankle, but his agent said earlier this month that his ankle was fine. The headache rumors have not been completely debunked. Considering just how up in the air the situation is, Green shouldn't be stashed in re-draft leagues. Jesse James will open the year as the Steelers' pass catcher at tight end.

John Brown (headaches, concussion) has been cleared to resume playing.

He could suit up for Thursday's exhibition finale, but almost certainly won't. Brown hasn't played a snap this preseason, but the Cardinals obviously aren't going to further risk his health. The lingering nature of Brown's concussion issues is a definite concern, but he'll be out there for Week 1. Brown has become a risk/reward WR3 in the Cardinals' crowded receiver corps.

Vikings released C John Sullivan.

The Vikings could not find a trade partner, so they cut the cord on Sullivan in favor of Tony Sparano pal Joe Berger. Still only 31 years old, Sullivan was one of the top centers in football in 2014, before missing all of 2015 with back problems. There are a number of teams around the league that could use help on the pivot. After losing Nick Martin, the Texans immediately come to mind.

49ers placed WR Bruce Ellington on injured reserve with a torn hamstring, ending his season.

Competing for a starting job, Ellington was an intriguing sleeper headed into training camp. His loss further thins San Francisco's embarrassingly-thin receiver corps, and means recently-acquired Jeremy Kerley could have to man the slot. Coach Chip Kelly has almost nothing to work with on offense. Now 25, Ellington will head into the final year of his rookie deal with all of 19 career catches.

Dolphins coach Adam Gase conceded Tuesday that third-round pick Leonte Carroo "has got a little ways to go."

Gase mostly praised Carroo, commending him for his talent and work habits. But he also hinted at why Carroo hasn't made a run yet for work in three-receiver sets. "He doesn't know some of the things he needs to know to help himself," said Gase. "That (comes) a little bit from experience." Parker is the Dolphins' No. 4 receiver behind Jarvis Landry, Kenny Stills, and DeVante Parker.

The MMQB's Albert Breer reports the Patriots are "shopping" Aaron Dobson.

They're shopping him because he'll be cut if/when they can't find a trade partner. Dobson has played over 100 snaps this summer, but has a modest six catches for 96 yards to show for it. Always hurt and mistake-prone, Dobson probably won't fetch a conditional day-three pick.

NFL Network's Ian Rapoport reports the Cowboys "have received calls" from teams wanting to acquire Darren McFadden, but Dallas "really wants to keep him."

Dealing with a severe elbow injury, McFadden is expected to begin the season on the Cowboys' reserve/NFI list should he stay put in Dallas. If not, he could be available earlier if cleared by another team's doctors. Alfred Morris has played well enough this preseason to open 2016 as Ezekiel Elliott's clear backup. McFadden is owed $1.75 million in the last year of his deal.

Chiefs placed OLB Justin Houston (knee) on the reserve/PUP list.

NFL.com's Ian Rapoport reports the Chiefs are "hopeful" of a mid-season return. Houston will be first eligible to suit up in Week 8, as the Chiefs are on bye in Week 5. It's a major blow, but far from unexpected. Houston was given a 6-12 month timetable after having his (apparently non-torn) ACL repaired in February. It's still not a certainty he suits up this season.
