A source with knowledge of the situation tells Profootballtalk X-rays of Randall Cobb's injured ankle came back negative, and the Packers believe he's avoided "significant damage."

An MRI will still be required to rule out ligament damage, but it's looking like the Packers have dodged a bullet with their new No. 1 receiver. Even with the No. 2 seed on the line, it's possible the Pack will exercise caution and hold Cobb out against the Vikings, but it's looking like he'll be good to go for the playoffs in Title Town. Cobb's status will be updated Monday.

Breshad Perriman (knee) will make his preseason debut on Thursday.

It will be the first time the No. 26 overall pick of the 2015 draft has ever played a live snap. Perriman doesn't figure to be on the field for more than a series or two, but the real takeaway is that it confirms he'll be ready for Week 1. That's barring a setback, of course. The Ravens' receiver corps is one of the least settled in the league, but with Perriman so far behind, he isn't worth a late-round flier in 12-team re-draft leagues.

Speaking Tuesday, Redskins coach Jay Gruden said Josh Doctson (Achilles') still doesn't have "full-speed burst," but will resume practicing "very soon."

It's basically what we've been hearing from Gruden all summer about his first-round pick. Doctson seems to have no shot at suiting up for Week 1, and can best be clarified as "week to week." He's been battling the still-mysterious issue since June 1. The situation could change in a hurry, but Doctson begins the year without real value in re-draft leagues.

John Brown (concussion/headaches) "couldn't say" Monday whether he'll be ready for Week 1.

The good news is Brown says this is the first concussion of his life. The bad news is he's endured several setbacks, leaving practice early twice with headaches and missing several more entirely. "I’m just taking it one day at a time," Brown said. "My focus is just being able to practice, just being able to get through a full practice." The Cardinals host the Patriots on September 11.

Colts coach Chuck Pagano said TE Dwayne Allen (hip) is "fine."

Allen has missed the last two practices with "hip soreness," which is concerning considering his injury history. Pagano does not seem worried, however, and there is no reason to doubt his Week 1 availability at this point. If he can stay on the field, Allen should return back-end TE1 value this season.

Dolphins placed DE Dion Jordan (knee) on the reserve/NFI list.

The move will prevent him from playing for at least the first six weeks of the season. Despite the injury, Jordan has earned praise from coach Adam Gase for his work ethic since being reinstated. He could play a role this season. LB Zach Vigil also landed on reserve/NFI, getting Miami to the 75-man roster limit.

Cowboys WLB Sean Lee is sidelined with a knee injury.

He had an MRI on Monday, but coach Jason Garrett says the results were "positive," likely meaning the test results were negative. It does not sound like Lee is dealing with a serious injury, but it is another reminder of his injury history. Already down several key members of the front seven, Dallas cannot afford to be without Lee.

NFL Network's Ian Rapoport reports the Chiefs have made QB Aaron Murray available for trade.

After signing Nick Foles to back up Alex Smith, the Chiefs were never going to keep both Murray and Tyler Bray. A 2014 fifth-rounder, Murray could be interesting to a team desperate for a low-cost backup. Murray will likely be waived if the Chiefs cannot work out a deal.

In a radio interview, Cowboys owner Jerry Jones said he is not sure when Tony Romo (back) will return.

"I don't know and don't know that anybody does," Jones said. "But it's quite a range there, four to six, six to eight, eight to (10)." A return after the team's Week 7 bye has been floated as the most likely scenario, but Jones said the team is still discussing whether or not to place Romo on injured reserve, which would keep him out at least the first eight weeks. Dak Prescott will open the season as the starter.

Free agent OLB Paul Kruger will visit the Saints Tuesday.

He also has a visit scheduled with the Chiefs later in the week. Cut by the Browns on Monday, Kruger is easily the best pass rusher on the market and makes a lot of sense for both teams. New Orleans just missed out on landing Kruger in 2013, and they need all the help they can get rushing the passer. Kansas City is thin at outside backer with Justin Houston (knee) out indefinitely.

ESPN's Adam Schefter reports Kenny Stills' back "locked up" at Monday's practice, and the injury is "not considered serious."

It was initially reported as a leg injury for Stills, but after reading practice reports, it was pretty evident Stills was grabbing at his back after some end-zone work. Consider him day to day. Stills should be fine for Week 1.

Chargers released WR James Jones.

Jones was signed 27 days ago after Stevie Johnson's season-ending knee injury. He was expected to serve as the Bolts' No. 3 receiver, but Jones never got comfortable out west. Tyrell Williams is the overwhelming favorite to be San Diego's third receiver. Jones might get another shot with a different club in-season, but his playing days are numbered at 32 years old. He's been cut by the Chargers, Raiders, and Giants over the last two offseasons.
