Knowshon Moreno rushed 15 times for just 44 yards and a touchdown in Denver's Week 17 win over the Chiefs, adding one catch for 10 yards.

Today was just the second time in six games since taking over as the Broncos' feature back that Moreno failed to clear 100 yards from scrimmage, though it was partly the result of him getting the final quarter and a half off in a blowout. Moreno wasn't dynamic down the stretch — he averaged just 4.1 yards per carry over his six starts — but was reliable, durable and quite capable of playing every down. He'll get a chance to shine on the national stage in two weeks, when the top-seeded Broncos host a Divisional Round game in Denver.

The Indianapolis Star calls Robert Turbin the Colts' "likely No. 2 back."

During an abysmal preseason, spring hype bunny Josh Ferguson has plummeted to No. 4 on the depth chart behind Turbin and Jordan Todman. Todman is also a core special teams player, which assures him a spot on the game-day roster. Assuming Ferguson even makes the 53, he could open the season as a healthy scratch.

Appearing on Mike Clay's Sirius Fantasy show, ESPN Broncos reporter Jeff Legwold stated that Trevor Siemian "has won the starting job."

Siemian apparently "won the starting job" in a preseason game he was pick sixed by 49ers FS Eric Reid. More accurately, Mark Sanchez outright lost the starting job with three turnovers in Denver's first two exhibitions, and Paxton Lynch isn't quite ready yet. Siemian is on track to start Week 1, but if he starts the season slow, coach Gary Kubiak could have a quick hook.

Free agent S Donte Whitner will visit the Panthers on Friday.

It could be an indication the Panthers aren't sold on third-year pro Tre Boston opposite FS Kurt Coleman. Whitner was cut by the rebuilding Browns in April, but had a passable 2015. Whitner's lone previous visit came in April to the Rams, but he's the kind of player who could get a big boost from the Panthers' DB-friendly scheme. He can't be that much worse than Roman Harper.

Steelers TE Ladarius Green (ankle, headaches) is "holding out hope" he'll be ready for Week 1, but acknowledges his rehab has gone "very slow."

It's still unclear what Green is even "rehabbing." He's adopted the team's party line that he's not dealing with headaches, but his own agent has said it's not his ankle. It's a ridiculously-muddled situation, one that makes Green a no-go as anything other than a risk/reward TE2.

MMQB's Albert Breer reports the Cowboys had "some concern" when Ezekiel Elliott reported to training camp at 231 pounds before pulling his hamstring.

231 is only six pounds heavier than Elliott's 225-pound Combine weigh-in, but it still wasn't ideal. Breer also said Zeke "worked off some of that weight" before suffering the injury. "As a player, I loved him to death," one NFL scout told Breer. "He’s the highest graded back I’ve ever done. He does everything well—running, catching, pass pro. But as far as going to Dallas, the bright lights, big city, I’ve always thought it could be tough for him. He likes football. He also likes everything that goes along with being a star." Elliott could silence some of his critics by turning in a big preseason game Thursday night against the Seahawks.

John Brown (concussion) returned to Cardinals practice Thursday.

Brown's Wednesday headache looks like it was just a scare after he returned from his concussion on Sunday. It's still obviously a situation to monitor, and a concern heading into Week 1. Brown will probably be held out of this weekend's regular season dress rehearsal.

Patriots acquired DE/OLB Barkevious Mingo from the Browns.

The return compensation is unclear, but like many August trades, it's probably a conditional day-three pick. The No. 6 overall pick of the 2013 draft, Mingo has been a comprehensive bust, tallying seven career sacks, only two of which have come in the past two seasons. The Pats are low on edge depth, however, and Mingo was drafted by former Patriots associate Michael Lombardi in Cleveland. He'll start on special teams and fight for snaps on defense.

NFL.com's Ian Rapoport reports J.J. Watt (back, PUP) expects to return to practice next week.

That would give Watt a fighting chance at suiting up for Week 1, but it would still be far from a guarantee. Watt has yet to practice this summer, and missed most of the offseason as he recovered from groin/core surgery. Another possibility is that Watt is ready for the opener but stuck on a snap count.

NFL.com's Ian Rapoport reports Texans LT Duane Brown (quad, PUP) won't be ready for Week 1, and could revert to the reserve/PUP list.

The PUP list would cost Brown the first six games of the season after he tore his quad last Week 17. The Texans are now without their left tackle and center for Week 1, and quite possibly beyond. C Nick Martin is out for the season. RT Derek Newton is battling a lingering hamstring injury. As NFL.com's Chris Wesseling points out, the Texans' lineup for the opener may feature only two returning starters on offense. That's rare in college, let alone the NFL.

NFL Network's Ian Rapoport reports C Bryan Stork will report to the Redskins this weekend.

Stork was acquired from the Patriots for a conditional seventh-round pick Wednesday, but rumors immediately popped up he was considering retirement. Showing up this weekend should put any retirement talk to bed. Stork could compete for a starting job in Washington.

Browns EVP Sashi Brown the team is "not looking to trade" Josh Gordon.

ESPN Cleveland's Tony Grossi reported Wednesday there is a "cynical point of view out there" that the Browns leaked a report about trade offers for Gordon in order to drum up more interest. Brown said he was not going to "entertain" that "speculation." It is important to note, however, Brown did say every player has a price, and saying the team is "not looking to trade" is considerably different than saying Gordon will not be traded. Gordon will most likely stay in Cleveland, but it is not a given.
