According to ESPN, the Chiefs are on the verge of a deal with Andy Reid.

Reid never even made it to Arizona. Instead, he's expected to take over a Chiefs team that went to the playoffs in 2010 but has gone 9-23 since then. They do have building blocks in place with dominant pass rusher Tamba Hali, a true top corner in Brandon Flowers, a strong offensive line and the No. 1 overall pick in April's draft. Reid will likely take over complete control of football operations, meaning GM Scott Pioli's role will at least be marginalized. He could end up being replaced by Reid's old friend from Philadelphia, Tom Heckert. Although Reid is known for running a pass-happy West Coast offense, his arrival would be good news for the unique talents of Jamaal Charles. Reid doesn't use committee backfields and knows how to get his running backs in space -- especially as receivers. Brian Westbrook and LeSean McCoy became stars under Reid.

Redskins released RG Chris Chester.

Chester, 32, has started all 64 games for Washington the past four seasons, but isn't a fit for coach Jay Gruden's power-blocking scheme at just 305 pounds. The veteran remained a serviceable guard last season, especially in pass protection, so he should get another look. The Redskins save $4 million against the cap with the move. Spencer Long is now the favorite at right guard.

Devonta Freeman opened Falcons OTAs as the first-string tailback.

Rookie Tevin Coleman ran with the twos. Freeman best projects as a role-player back, and was likely given the first-team nod out of veteran deference. In Kyle Shanahan's historically productive zone-run scheme, Coleman versus Freeman versus Antone Smith will be one of fantasy's top camp battles to watch.

Richard Sherman (elbow) is participating fully in OTAs.

Sherman was initially tabbed for Tommy John surgery on his left elbow, but opted for rest and rehab instead. It appears his recovery has gone according to plan. Heading into his age-27 season, Sherman is the game's best corner.

Derek Carr (hand) has yet to resume throwing.

Carr took snaps in Tuesday's OTAs session, but was on the sideline for passing drills. Carr isn't currently considering hand surgery, and he's expected to be back to full health by training camp. It's a story worth monitoring for Raiders fans, but not a major concern.

Tamba Hali is recovering from a knee scope.

Per Hali, the operation was to "clean out some loose cartilage." It's unclear when Hali went under the knife, but there doesn't appear to be any concern about his status for training camp. Going on 32, Hali is coming off his lowest sack total since 2008. He took a $3 million pay cut to keep his roster spot.

Redskins coach Jay Gruden says third-round pick Matt Jones has shown more versatility than the team expected.

He served as the team's third-down back in Tuesday's OTAs session, a role he should seize from Silas Redd and Chris Thompson. Both Gruden and GM Scot McCloughan have talked up Jones since the draft, with Gruden even allowing that he could steal some work from Alfred Morris on early downs.

Redskins TE Jordan Reed is "getting checked for soreness" in his knee.

It appears the injury-prone tight end is undergoing tests. Reed dealt with knee issues his rookie offseason, but has primarily been sidelined by hamstring issues. It's extremely unwelcome news that Reed is already at less than 100 percent.
May 26 - 1:41 PM

Johnny Manziel was the Browns' second-string quarterback as OTAs opened Tuesday.

As expected, veteran journeyman Josh McCown took the first-team reps. After last year's utter meltdown on and off the field, Manziel will have to earn the trust of his coaches and team before he climbs the depth chart. So far, all signs have been good since he got out of rehab. We're likely looking at a true competition in training camp.
May 26 - 11:26 AM

Isaiah Crowell took the first snap with the starters at Tuesday's OTA session.

Crowell emerged from Cleveland's 2014 jumble as the best early-down option, averaging 4.10 YPC while earning double-digit carries in six of the final eight games. There will be week-to-week competition and some mixing and matching based on opponent, but the starter's job is Crowell's to lose. Rookie Duke Johnson profiles mostly as a passing down back and Terrance West projects as a backup at both spots. With C Alex Mack back from his broken leg, there will be mid-round upside in the talented Crowell.

ESPN Dallas' Todd Archer believes Joseph Randle "will be the starting running back when the season opens."

Archer already went on the record earlier this month with a "bold prediction" that Randle will rush for 1,200 yards. Randle's talent doesn't lend itself to those kinds of stats, but the opportunity is very much there. Darren McFadden projects for his trademark ineffectiveness, Ryan Williams hasn't been the same since his patellar tear and Lance Dunbar is an undersized passing back. Randle, the incumbent who averaged 6.72 YPC on his 51 carries last year, appears to be the favorite to head this committee as we head into the bulk of the offseason program. The Dallas Morning News also stated Tuesday they expect Randle to get "the initial opportunity with the first-team offense."

Bears released DE Ray McDonald.

McDonald was immediately placed on a no-tolerance policy when the Bears signed him this past March. He was arrested on Monday for domestic violence and child endangerment after allegedly assaulting a woman who was holding a baby. McDonald will likely face a stiff penalty from the NFL. We would not bet on 31-year-old McDonald playing another down in the league.
