Coach John Harbaugh said the Ravens will "work like crazy" to get impending free agent Ed Reed re-signed.

"We had that conversation on the bus ride away from the stadium actually," Harbaugh said. "He and I both agreed that we want him back. I want him back, and Ed wants to come back." The problem is that the cap-strapped Ravens probably won't be able to afford market value for the future Hall of Famer. Although he'll be 35 in September and has a numerous injury red flags, Reed is expected to attract significant interest around the league. The Colts, Patriots and Saints are all possible suitors.

104.3 The Fan in Denver's Brandon Stokley reports the Broncos will name Trevor Siemian their starting quarterback.

As expected. Siemian has outplayed 2016 first-round pick Paxton Lynch since the day Lynch was drafted, and Lynch made no tangible progress in his second NFL training camp. The Broncos envision Siemian as a capped-ceiling placeholder quarterback, but he gives the team its best chance to win now. The Broncos should probably look into acquiring Tyrod Taylor to add more talent to the room. Lynch has shown zero ability to move the offense.

Saints coach Sean Payton said Willie Snead played into the fourth quarter Sunday because he wanted to get the receiver more reps after missing some practice time with injury in camp.

Payton told the same story about Coby Fleener. The reasoning makes sense, but it was still odd to see Snead playing at a time usually reserved for third stringers and camp bodies, especially after he was listed behind Ted Ginn on the unofficial depth chart. Snead remains the best fantasy bet behind Michael Thomas, but his usage Sunday raises at least some concern.

NFL.com reports Jaguars DE Dante Fowler has been charged with three misdemeanors stemming from his July 18 arrest.

According to court records, Fowler is accused of "punching" a man after a "brief verbal confrontation." He also stepped on the alleged victim's glasses. He has been charged with battery, criminal mischief, and petty theft. Fowler's arraignment is scheduled for September 11, the Monday after Week 1.

Chiefs coach Andy Reid said Alex Smith is the unquestioned starter.

"It's Alex's job," Reid said. "There's no gray area with that." No. 10 overall pick Patrick Mahomes has created the buzz this offseason, but Smith has been quietly excellent, completing 12-of-15 passes for 131 yards and a touchdown. Unless he falls completely on his face, Smith will be the starter all season and remains an undervalued asset in deeper fantasy leagues.

Cam Newton (shoulder) is throwing in team drills during Monday's practice.

NFL Network's Tiffany Blackmon reported Newton would up his practice workload this week, and it appears that has happened. It is still unclear if he will get in any action this preseason, but he remains on track for Week 1.

DeAndre Hopkins has not practiced since August 9 because of a hand injury.

The injury is not believed to be serious, but it is slightly concerning Hopkins has now missed over a week of practice and a preseason game. Missing Monday's practice also suggests the receiver may not be ready for the "dress rehearsal" on Saturday. Hopkins still should be expected to return before Week 1, but this is a situation to monitor.

Anquan Boldin told SiriusXM NFL Radio's Ross Tucker he is "done with the sport of football."

Boldin decided to retire after spending 13 days with the Bills. There was speculation he would be willing to sign on with a contender, but he says his "passion is elsewhere." If this is the end, Boldin finishes his career with 1,076 catches for 13,779 yards and 82 touchdowns. Those numbers rank ninth, 14th, and 23rd all-time respectively.

Dak Prescott said his "chemistry" with Dez Bryant "has grown" this offseason.

"He's been a guy that his ears are wide open, wanting to know what I'm thinking," Prescott said. "It's just been back and forth of just talking and doing it out there on the field and it's only growing." The connection was on display in the second preseason game, with Dez hauling in two passes for 55 yards and an impressive touchdown. A yearly threat for double-digit scores, Dez is a back-end WR1.

A teammate said practice reps were split "dead even" between Chad Henne and Blake Bortles on Sunday.

It is not a surprise considering both Bortles' terrible showing in the second preseason game and myriad reports suggesting Henne would take over the starting job, but it does confirm the Jaguars truly have opened the competition. With Bortles struggling, that battle likely will lead to Henne getting the start Week 1. That is a good thing for the Jaguars' skill players based on what we have seen so far this preseason.

Raiders coach Jack Del Rio said CB Sean Smith was "defending his sister" when he allegedly attacked her boyfriend over the July 4 holiday.

"I think we’ll let him battle legally what issues he has," Del Rio said. "Obviously, things occurred that were taken issue with, so he’s having to defend himself right now." It looks like the Raiders buy Smith's side of the story and will stand behind him even after he was arrested and charged with felony assault last week. Even without the legal issues, Smith has been struggling on the field and reportedly lost his starting job to T.J. Carrie.

ESPN's Jeff Legwold reports teammates believe Trevor Siemian has won the Broncos' quarterback competition.

As do all outside observers and anyone who watched the team's first two preseason games. Coach Vance Joseph has said he wants the starter set before practices for the third preseason game, often viewed as the "dress rehearsal" for Week 1, so Legwold believes the coach could announce his decision on Monday. The No. 26 overall pick last year, Paxton Lynch is shaping up as a bust.
