According to CBS' Jason La Canfora, the Titans intend to exercise Chris Johnson's 2013 contract.

The Titans could have cut Johnson this week at no charge against the salary cap. They've chosen not to wash their hands of him. Johnson is set to earn $10 million in 2013, $9 million of which will become guaranteed on Saturday. CJ?K now enters a make-or-break season in Tennessee after two straight years of questionable effort and disappointing production. No longer a special back in terms of getting himself in space or breaking tackles, Johnson would benefit greatly from an overhaul of the Titans' interior offensive line.

Panthers coach Ron Rivera said Jonathan Stewart (hamstring) could miss up to four weeks.

Including this week's absence, Stewart has now missed 25 games since the start of 2012. Stewart is an effective workhorse when healthy but that's rarely been the case. Cameron Artis-Payne and Fozzy Whittaker saw similar workloads last week with Artis-Payne going for 58 yards on 13 touches while Whittaker tallied 56 yards on 10 touches. Until a frontrunner emerges, it's hard to endorse either of them as anything more than flex plays.

Jonathan Stewart (hamstring) is out for Week 4 against the Falcons.

He hasn't practiced since tweaking his hamstring in Week 2. Consider him week to week. Cameron Artis-Payne and Fozzy Whittaker will continue to share backfield work in Stewart's absence. Both are low-end flex options against Atlanta.

Delanie Walker (hamstring) returned to practice on Thursday, getting in a limited session.

It puts Walker on track to return against the Texans, but doesn't guarantee it after he missed Week 3. Walker was sorely missed against the Raiders. Presumably not back to full health, he'll be a back-end TE1 if he suits up against Houston.

ESPN's Adam Schefter reports Dez Bryant (knee) is not expected to play against the 49ers in Week 4.

Bryant hasn't practiced since an MRI revealed that he has a hairline fracture in his knee. NFL Network's Ian Rapoport said the injury could sideline Dez for up to three weeks. Cole Beasley should see another heavy workload Sunday against the Niners.
Sep 29 - 2:29 PM

Sammy Watkins (foot) is expected to miss his third straight practice Friday, but coach Rex Ryan is "hopeful" he travels for the team's game to New England.

Ryan still offered no assurances about Watkins' Sunday status. Most signs suggest he will miss his second straight game.

Rashad Jennings (thumb) was limited at Thursday's practice.

ESPN Giants reporter Jordan Raanan said earlier today that he expects Jennings to miss Monday night's game against the Vikings. Jennings' thumb injury affects his ability to block and catch passes, which is obviously a huge hindrance. With Shane Vereen (triceps) also out, it looks like Orleans Darkwa will lead the Giants' backfield in Week 4.

Julius Thomas (elbow) is expected to be a game-time decision for Sunday morning's game against the Colts.

Thomas missed another practice Thursday, and is looking mighty shaky for Jacksonville/Indy's "Breakfast at Wimbledon" 9:30 AM ET tilt. We'll know early if Thomas is playing, but fantasy owners need a back-up plan. Injuries are always the risk with Thomas, who is a touchdown-scoring force when healthy.

NFL.com's Ian Rapoport reports the odds are "slim" J.J. Watt (back) returns this season, but that there are "no long-term concerns."

There were also no long-term concerns last spring. The reality is, Watt has a bad back, and it will be a concern until proven otherwise. The good news is, he has almost an entire year to get right. Watt turns 28 next March. He should bounce back in 2017.

Jimmy Garoppolo (shoulder) and Jacoby Brissett (thumb) both were at practice Thursday.

Both were limited on Wednesday. It was just a walkthrough, but it is looking more and more likely Garoppolo will play Sunday. He will be a solid streaming option at home against the Bills.

Lions OC Jim Bob Cooter said Golden Tate will see more targets moving forward.

Targets are not really the problem for Tate, who is on pace for 117 through three games. The problem is he is averaging just 7.2 yards per reception a season after gaining just nine yards per catch. Tate has the after-catch skills to break a couple big plays, but his usage limits his yardage upside. Marvin Jones will remain the clear No. 1 in Detroit.

Cowboys coach Jason Garrett said Dez Bryant (knee) will not practice Thursday.

It is not surprising. NFL Network's Ian Rapoport has said Bryant is a "long-shot" to play against the 49ers, and he could be looking at a multi-week absence. Cole Beasley and Brice Butler are interesting names in deep leagues.
