Lions signed CB D.J. Johnson, formerly of the Redskins.

A four-year veteran, Johnson appeared in seven games for the Redskins last season, making eight tackles. He'll compete for a spot on special teams in training camp.

Dolphins placed WR DeVante Parker (foot) on active/PUP.

As expected. Parker underwent surgery last month to have a screw replaced in his previously-operated foot. The No. 14 overall pick is expected to avoid the reserve/PUP list to open the season, which would cost him the first six games, but he's questionable for Week 1 and not expected to get much work in camp.

Redskins signed OLB Ryan Kerrigan to a five-year, $57.5 million extension through 2020.

Kerrigan was entering the final year of his contract and set to play on his fifth-year team option at $7.038 million. He's yet to miss a start since being taken with the No. 16 overall pick in 2011 and graded out as a top-five 3-4 outside linebacker at Pro Football Focus last season, finishing second behind Chiefs OLB Justin Houston (59) with 51 hurries. Kerrigan has 38.5 career sacks and topped out at 13.5 in 2015. Coming off an offseason knee scope, Kerrigan is one of the more underrated edge rushers in the league. Washington smartly chose to do a long-term deal with 26-year-old Kerrigan over oft-injured Brian Orakpo.

According to the St. Louis Post-Dispatch, second-year RB Tre Mason is expected to get the "lion's share" of the Rams' carries "early in the season."

Per beat writer Jim Thomas, the "last thing" the Rams want to do is "rush" Todd Gurley, who avoided the NFI list to open training camp, but isn't necessarily assured of a major early-season role, or to be active at all on game days when the season begins. Thomas suggests Gurley will play a "limited role" early in the year, and the Rams will increase his workload depending on his ACL recovery, stamina, and effectiveness. Gurley remains a high-risk investment in the first four rounds of drafts, while Mason could prove a useful value pick in the mid rounds.

CSN Bay Area's Matt Maiocco expects the 49ers to replace Frank Gore with "more than one person."

In other words, the 49ers would use a running back committee. Maiocco states Carlos Hyde "is best-suited to be the back on base downs and short-yardage situations," but he is going to lose passing-game work to Reggie Bush and/or Kendall Hunter. Soft-handed FB Bruce Miller will also siphon some receptions. As a likely two-down back on a team with a 6.5-game Vegas Win Total, Hyde is best viewed as a low-end RB2 pick in re-draft leagues. Hyde opened camp on the active/PUP list with "what is believed to be a minor calf strain."

ESPN Saints reporter Mike Triplett threw "cold water" on Josh Hill's "fantasy buzz" Wednesday, saying Hill won't be playing the old "Jimmy Graham role."

Coach Sean Payton has professed his love for Hill numerous times this offseason, but Triplett believes that's because Hill is simply a good football player with the ability to run, catch, block and contribute on special teams. He notes that before Graham was a Saint, Payton didn't feature the tight end as much. Triplett mentioned Jeremy Shockey's 48-569-3 receiving line in 2009 as "realistic" for Hill. The truth is much of Hill's past success came because he was left wide open.

NFL Network's Ian Rapoport reports Seahawks SS Kam Chancellor "wants more money" and is considering a training-camp holdout.

Chancellor is already the league's seventh-highest paid safety at $7 million annually after signing a four-year extension two years ago. But he wants more with the guaranteed money on his deal set to wash away next year. With FS Earl Thomas (shoulder) on the shelf for all of preseason, Chancellor may see a window to force the Seahawks to pay him. He just turned 27. ESPN's Jim Trotter reports the Seahawks "have no intentions of revisiting" Chancellor's deal.

WSOCTV Charlotte reports Panthers WR Stephen Hill was cited for a drug paraphernalia charge after a routine traffic stop.

The drug paraphernalia charge isn't extreme by any means, but Hill is a guy who can't afford any off-field problems after he's been an extreme disappointment on it. The former second-round pick of the Jets had reportedly been a revelation in Panthers spring practices. Hill doesn't have a history of trouble with the law.

Bengals OC Hue Jackson said, "We're going to open it up a little bit more this year and be who I think we can be."

"We're going to open Pandora's box more," Jackson said. "We tickled it a little bit last year. ... It's a chess match, and whoever is not afraid to pull the trigger, pull the trigger. And I'm not afraid, so let's go." The potential for this offense is through the roof and vastly undervalued in fantasy because of the perception of Andy Dalton. But Dalton was playing with a short deck last season where Mohamed Sanu was his No. 1 receiver in a number of games. With A.J. Green, Marvin Jones and Tyler Eifert healthy and Jeremy Hill entering year two, Cincinnati is going to put up points. Dalton, whose 33-TD season in 2013 has seemingly been forgotten, will have his fair share of top-10 fantasy weeks this year.

Suspended QB Tom Brady wrote on Facebook Wednesday morning, "I am very disappointed by the NFL’s decision to uphold the 4 game suspension against me. I did nothing wrong, and no one in the Patriots organization did either."

"...To try and reconcile the record and fully cooperate with the investigation after I was disciplined in May, we turned over detailed pages of cell phone records and all of the emails that Mr. [Ted] Wells requested," Brady continued. "...There is no "smoking gun" and this controversy is manufactured to distract from the fact they have zero evidence of wrongdoing. I authorized the NFLPA to make a settlement offer to the NFL so that we could avoid going to court and put this inconsequential issue behind us as we move forward into this season. The discipline was upheld without any counter offer. I respect the Commissioner's authority, but he also has to respect the CBA and my rights as a private citizen. I will not allow my unfair discipline to become a precedent for other NFL players without a fight." Brady also explained his "destroyed" cell phone in his response, saying he simply replaced an old, broken Samsung phone with a new iPhone 6.

Chiefs SS Eric Berry (lymphoma) is cancer-free and will practice with the team at training camp Wednesday.

What an awesome bit of news to end the night on a good note after it was revealed star NT Dontari Poe (back surgery) would miss all of camp and much of the season. Berry was diagnosed with Hodgkin's lymphoma in December after complaining of chest discomfort. He was immediately sent for treatment and has beaten cancer. The Chiefs now have four capable safeties in Berry, Tyvon Branch, Husain Abdullah and Ron Parker. Parker can also play corner.

PFT's Mike Florio reports the NFL offered suspended QB Tom Brady a two-game reduction on his four-game suspension in exchange for a guilty admission.

Per Florio's source, Brady had to admit to having knowledge of whatever ball men John Jastremski and Jim McNally were doing to the footballs, admit to failing to cooperate with the Ted Wells investigation and then apologize. Brady's ban would have then dropped to at least two games and possibly one. It appears Brady is dead-set on taking the NFL to court to get his suspension wiped out completely or he's going to take the heat and sit the four games.
