Falcons waived LB Matt Hansen.

Hansen spent last season on injured reserve after rupturing his patellar tendon last July. A converted safety out of Rhode Island, Hansen has never appeared in an NFL game.

Colts signed WR DeAndre Smelter to a reserve/future contract.

A 2015 fourth-round pick of the 49ers, Smelter came out of Georgia Tech with mouth-watering traits but has battled injuries and coaching turnover in his career. The futures deal will allow him to spend a full healthy offseason with Indy.

The player rep for free agent Jarvis Landry told the Palm Beach Post his client will not accept a hometown discount from the Dolphins.

The Dolphins spent the entire 2017 season trying to trade Landry, so this isn't a surprise. "Take a discount? Absolutely not," said agent Damarious Bilbo. "This may be Jarvis’ first and last time to set himself up and his family up. He needs to strike and strike while the iron is hot." Landry is expected to target elite No. 1 receiver money. Davante Adams' recent four-year, $58 million extension figures to be a baseline for Landry's asking price.

A source told ESPN Patriots reporter Mike Reiss that Tom Brady's injured hand "should be okay" for Sunday's AFC title game versus Jacksonville.

It's believed Brady jammed his throwing hand when a teammate accidentally ran into him on the practice field. Reports indicate it was a minor injury, although Brady may sit out Thursday's practice as a precaution. Particularly after they traded Jimmy Garoppolo and Jacoby Brissett, the Patriots badly need Brady under center. Their fallback option would be journeyman Brian Hoyer.

New Texans GM Brian Gaine said a contract extension for Jadeveon Clowney is "on the horizon."

"Right now, I'm in an evaluative period in terms of studying the roster and studying the team and learning the players in terms of how they performed," said Gaine at his introductory press conference. "But certainly a player that's valued by the Texans organization, and in time, as we go through that process, we'll arrive to that conclusion." Aaron Wilson of the Houston Chronicle suggests Clowney's next contract could surpass the six-year, $114.1 million deal inked by Von Miller in 2016. That would make Clowney the highest-paid non-quarterback in the NFL. The former first overall pick will earn $13.846 million in the final year of his rookie contract.

Updating an earlier report, Tom Brady hurt his right hand during Wednesday's practice.

According to Karen Guregian of the Boston Herald, Brady jammed his hand after a teammate accidentally ran into him. Brady went for X-rays but was cleared of any structural damage. It's never good when a quarterback hurts his throwing hand, but we'd still expect Brady to be under center for Sunday's AFC Championship tilt versus Jacksonville.

Gerry Dulac of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reports the Steelers are expected to hire QBs coach Randy Fichtner as their offensive coordinator.

According to Dulac, Fichtner's promotion is "pending final approval of his contract." This comes hours after it was announced the Steelers would not be retaining Todd Haley, who was at the end of his contract. Fichtner is known to have a strong relationship with Ben Roethlisberger and even served as a buffer between Ben and Haley when the two weren't getting along this past season. The Steelers also considered Mike Munchak for their OC position, but instead he'll remain in his current role as the team's OL coach. Fichtner has served on Mike Tomlin's staff since 2007.

Jets fired OC John Morton.

Morton lasted just one season in the Big Apple. According to ESPN Jets reporter Rich Cimini, Morton rubbed some players the wrong way and also had "philosophical differences" with head coach Todd Bowles. Morton's play-calling also came into question throughout the year. Todd Haley, who will not be retained by Pittsburgh, could be of interest to the Jets while QBs coach Jeremy Bates is the leading in-house candidate to replace Morton. The Raiders briefly pursued Morton for their offensive coordinator position but ultimately went with Rams QBs coach Greg Olson. The Jets' next offensive coordinator will be their sixth in eight years.

Leonard Fournette (ankle) was limited at Wednesday's practice.

Fournette aggravated an ankle injury in Sunday's Divisional Round win over Pittsburgh. He played through it, but was noticeably less effective after he got hurt (72 yards on 12 carries before the injury, 27 yards on 13 carries after). For the Jaguars to upset the top-seeded Patriots, they'll need Fournette to be firing on all cylinders.

Tom Brady (hand) was limited at Wednesday's practice.

The injury is to Brady's throwing hand. His presence at practice, albeit in a limited capacity, would suggest it's nothing serious. Brady was brilliant in the Divisional Round (337 yards, three touchdowns) but will face a much stiffer challenge against Jacksonville's league-best defense in Sunday's AFC title game.
Jan 17 - 4:30 PM

Adam Thielen (back) didn't practice on Wednesday.

He's reportedly dealing with a lower back injury. Thielen seemed fine in the Divisional Round—he played 75-of-79 snaps in a win over New Orleans—so it's possible the Vikings are simply treating Wednesday as a maintenance day for their top receiver. It would be a shock if he's not ready for Sunday's NFC title game in Philly.

NFL Network's Ian Rapoport reports Steelers QBs coach Randy Fichtner is the "favorite" to be promoted to offensive coordinator.

Fichtner, 54, has been coaching with the Steelers since 2007 and has been the team's QBs coach the last eight years. He's said to be "very close" with Ben Roethlisberger, which is obviously a huge deal after Big Ben and ousted OC Todd Haley butted heads. The defense is Pittsburgh's bigger concern.
