According to the Boston Herald, the Patriots and Wes Welker are discussing a new contract.

A new deal does not "appear" to be imminent, though. Tom Brady's three-year extension has freed up $15 million in cap space over the next two seasons, giving New England much more room for locking up other key pieces. Welker, 32 in May, is expected to seek around $9 million annually on his next contract.

Jamaal Charles is inactive for Week 3 against the Dolphins.

The Chiefs will attempt to feature Knile Davis at Miami. In addition to Charles, Kansas City's Week 3 inactives are QB Aaron Murray, WR Albert Wilson, RB De'Anthony Thonas, S Eric Berry, OG Laurent Duvernay-Tardif, and DE Damion Square.

T.Y. Hilton exited Sunday's Week 3 game with an ankle injury.

The injury happened late in the second quarter. Hilton had five catches for 50 yards on six targets before departing. He was ruled out for the remainder of the game midway through the third quarter.

Chad Henne was benched at halftime of Sunday's game versus Indianapolis.

The Jaguars managed two first downs in the first half of Sunday's game, as Henne went 4-of-7 passing for 33 yards with three sacks absorbed. This move will not be temporary. Bortles will be the Jags' starter for the rest of the season.

49ers declared TEs Vernon Davis (ankle, knee) and Vance McDonald (knee) inactive for Week 3 against the Cardinals.

With the 49ers' top two tight ends out, third-year UDFA Derek Carrier can be fired up as a cheap daily option against a Cardinals defense that simply can't cover tight ends. Also inactive for the 49ers are WR Quinton Patton, CB Tramaine Brock, C Marcus Martin, RT Anthony Davis and DT Tank Carradine.

Dennis Pitta was carted off the field with a right hip injury in Sunday's game against the Browns.

The non-contact injury occurred on a swing pass to Pitta out of the backfield. He had three catches for 12 yards before exiting. While being carted away, Pitta was in a ton of pain. There would seem to be very little chance he returns today. It's worth noting Pitta fractured and dislocated his right hip last year.

LeSean McCoy has been cleared to return to Sunday's game against the Redskins.

It's a pleasant surprise after McCoy appeared very dazed due to a helmet-to-helmet hit from Redskins CB David Amerson. McCoy had two carries for 10 yards and no catches when he went to the locker room.

Matt Cassel was forced from Minneosta's Week 3 game against the Saints with a left toe injury, and will not return.

First-round rookie Teddy Bridgewater is now in the game at quarterback. Cassel limped off the field after getting dragged down on a second-quarter scramble. He spent some time on the trainer's table before being carted to the locker room. He underwent X-rays, and was officially ruled out about 20 minutes later. Although he had yet to be sacked, Cassel was getting harassed before going down. He finishes 5-of-10 passing for 53 yards.

The Texans announced Alfred Blue will be their starting tailback Sunday at the Giants.

The sixth-round rookie out of LSU passed Jonathan Grimes on the depth chart and had 11 carries off the bench last week. The Texans are a run-heavy team, which works in Blue's Week 3 fantasy favor, but Texans beat writers expect an "RBBC" against the Giants, and New York has played solid run defense thus far. Blue is a high-risk flex play. Grimes and Ronnie Brown are also in the mix.

FOX's Jay Glazer confirms that Jamaal Charles (ankle) is not expected to play in Sunday's late game against the Dolphins.

Charles clearly doesn't have a true high-ankle sprain, but he remains sore. Glazer said Andy Reid will likely err on the side of caution. "Unless something happens later today to convince Reid that Charles is 100 percent, Charles will be down today," said Glazer. Knile Davis can be penciled into lineups as a volume back against a very good Dolphins run defense.

Aaron Dobson is a healthy scratch for Sunday's Week 3 game against the Raiders.

It's one of Bill Belichick's surprises as Dobson was thought to be ascending toward the every-down "X" role. Instead, ineffective Kenbrell Thompkins and Brandon LaFell are active. Dobson is now a drop candidate in 10- and 12-team leagues. Meanwhile, Julian Edelman (back), Shane Vereen (shoulder), and Rob Gronkowski (knee) are active for the Patriots, as expected. James White is a healthy scratch.
Sep 21 - 11:52 AM

Allen Robinson is listed as a starter opposite Cecil Shorts in Sunday's Week 3 game against the Colts.

Allen Hurns (ankle) is active, but it sounds like he'll serve as the No. 3 receiver. It's a monster opportunity for the talented Robinson, although he's going to see a lot of shutdown CB Vontae Davis. Marqise Lee (hamstring) is inactive, along with TE Clay Harbor, OL Austin Pasztor, CB Jeremy Harris, G Tyler Shatley, RB Storm Johnson and WR Tavvares King.
