Chiefs acquired QB Alex Smith from the 49ers in exchange for a second-round draft pick in 2013 and a conditional third-round pick in the 2014 draft.

Four years after trading for the Patriots' backup quarterback, the Chiefs have swung a deal for the 49ers' clipboard holder. The price tag is shocking. The Niners received the 34th pick this year plus a 2014 conditional third-rounder that can escalate to an additional second-rounder -- for a career game manager. It's similar to what the Cardinals paid for Kevin Kolb in 2011 and Kansas City paid for Matt Cassel in 2009. Smith is an upgrade on Cassel, but his mediocre skill set prevents offenses from playing explosive football and threatening downfield. The deal is done, but won't be "official" until the new league year opens on March 12. The 49ers are now armed with five draft picks in the top 93. The Chiefs are slated to pick just twice in the top 95. Expect plenty of Smith checkdowns to Jamaal Charles in Andy Reid's pass-happy West Coast scheme.

ESPN Packers reporter Rob Demovsky reports Jared Cook's ankle injury is not season-ending.

Cooks was spotted on crutches and in a boot after being carted to the locker room Week 3 against the Lions. The concern is the injury is to the same foot which required surgery in June. Demovsky reports the Packers are still trying to determine if he is looking at a multi-week absence. The Packers are on bye this week before hosting the Giants in Week 5.

Seahawks coach Pete Carroll confirmed Russell Wilson has an MCL sprain.

Carroll said Wilson "feels great" and is recovering well. ESPN's Adam Schefter reports Wilson expects to play this week against the Jets, and the confirmation of a sprain suggests that is still the plan. Still, Wilson's mobility was hindered even before this injury, and he has not proven to be a quality fantasy asset while injured. He will be difficult to trust even in a good matchup.

Eagles coach Doug Pederson said the team will continue to use a backfield rotation even when Ryan Mathews (ankle) is healthy.

Pederson confirmed Mathews' is dealing with some stiffness and swelling in the ankle he injured prior to training camp. He should be able to recover over the team's Week 4 bye, but he is looking at a timeshare with at least Darren Sproles and likely rookie Wendell Smallwood as well. Mathews is shaping up as a touchdown-dependant FLEX play at best.

Eagles coach Doug Pederson expects Zach Ertz (ribs) to play following the team's Week 4 bye.

Pederson also expects CB Leodis McKelvin to return. Dealing with a displaced rib, Ertz will have to gain full medical clearance before he can return, but he has the bye week to get fully healthy before the trip to Detroit. He will be a great option in that matchup.

Pro Football Talk reports Adrian Peterson's (knee, injured reserve) "sole focus" is playing again this season.

Peterson is expected to miss a "minimum" of 3-4 months after undergoing surgery to repair a torn meniscus last week, but it would not be the first time Peterson beat an injury timetable. Peterson is officially able to return Week 11, but it would be surprising to see him before late December. Either way, the Vikings look headed for the playoffs, and Peterson might be able to help them once they get there.

ESPN's Britt McHenry reports Saints WR Willie Snead (toe, questionable) will not play Monday night against the Falcons.

This is not a huge surprise after Snead missed most of the practice week. With Snead out, rookie Michael Thomas and TE Coby Fleener should see more work in a great matchup. Thomas is available in over half of Yahoo leagues for players in need of a late replacement.

Saints SS Kenny Vaccaro (ankle, questionable) is expected to miss Monday night's game against the Falcons.

With big problems at corner, the Saints had been using a three-safety formation featuring Vaccaro, Jairus Byrd, and rookie Vonn Bell. With Vaccaro now sidelined, New Orleans is running out of options in the secondary. Matt Ryan, Julio Jones, and Mohamed Sanu should dominate Monday night.

Coach Adam Gase suggested Arian Foster (groin) is not going to play Thursday night against the Bengals.

"We're going to make sure he's at the right place for us," Gase said. It was never likely Foster would return on a short week, but he could make it back for the Dolphins' Week 5 clash with the Titans. Miami will again turn to an underwhelming committee featuring Kenyan Drake, Jay Ajayi, Damien Williams, and Isaiah Pead. This is a situation to avoid.

The Miami Herald's Adam Beasley reports Dolphins TE Jordan Cameron will miss Thursday night's game against the Bengals because of a concussion.

Cameron has a long history with concussions, so it is possible this injury sidelines him for a while. Dion Sims should be close to an every-down player with Cameron out.

An MRI confirmed Redskins FS DeAngelo Hall tore his ACL Week 3 against the Giants.

Hall seemed to be holding out hope he escaped without a serious injury Sunday night, but doctors always suspected a tear. Hall had looked good in his transition to safety, so his loss is a big one for an already thin safety corps. Hall is owed $4.25 million in 2017, the final year of his deal.

NFL Network's Ian Rapoport reports Ryan Mathews' ankle "stiffened" Week 3 against the Steelers.

It explains why he played just eight snaps in the blowout win. Mathews has been dealing with an ankle injury since training camp, but he has not been on the injury report. He will get the bye week to heal up before facing the Lions in Week 5.
