Free agent CB Chris Gamble is planning to retire.

"A number of teams have expressed interest in (him)," Gamble's agent said in a statement. "However, Chris informed me last night that he wants to retire. Even though he still loves football, he told me that he's decided to focus on life after football." It's stunning news for a 30 year old who seemed to have some good football left, but could be an indication the shoulder injury that limited Gamble to four games last season was more serious than previously thought. Perpetually underrated since being the No. 28 pick of the 2004 draft, Gamble will finish his career with 27 interceptions across 123 games if he's indeed hanging up his cleats. It's possible Gamble will reconsider once training camp rolls around.

The Houston Chronicle reports Andre Johnson is expected to report to training camp on time.

Johnson was in Houston at NRG Stadium on Monday talking with the team's brass. It's obviously great news for the Texans and would ease the minds of fantasy football players. The Texans have no real incentive to trade Johnson unless they can finagle an early-round draft pick out of the acquiring team. Johnson has averaged 110.5 catches for 1502.5 yards and nine total touchdowns over the past two seasons. A shoo-in WR1 when healthy, Johnson's current ADP is at the back of the fourth round.

The Tampa Tribune reports Bucs LG Carl Nicks (toe) has been cleared to play.

It appears Nicks will be ready for the start of training camp this week and will avoid the active/PUP list. While Nicks' toe is far from a guarantee to hold up, his return is a big boost for Doug Martin and Tampa Bay's entire offense. His last healthy season (2011), Nicks was PFF's No. 2 overall guard, excelling in both the run and pass games for the Saints. The Bucs are holding an open competition at right guard between Patrick Omameh, Jamon Meredith, and Oniel Cousins.

Sources have informed former NFL scout John Middlekauf that Raiders second-year CB D.J. Hayden (ankle) is still not healthy, and may open training camp on the active/PUP list.

Unreal. According to Middlekauf, even if Hayden doesn't end up on PUP, he's not expected to be a full participant in training camp, "similar to last season." Hayden was reportedly out of his walking boot earlier this month, but still can't seem to get his ankle right. Hayden battled a heart issue in college before undergoing abdominal surgery shortly after the Raiders drafted him with last year's No. 12 pick. He then played in eight games before landing on I.R. with a groin injury. The Raiders don't have much at corner behind Hayden, Carlos Rogers, and Tarell Brown. Fourth-round rookie Keith McGill would be the next man up.

Patriots placed WR Aaron Dobson (foot) on the active/PUP list.

Joining him there will be CB Alfonzo Dennard, WR Jeremy Gallon, DT Tommy Kelly and WR Matt Slater. Dobson had been optimistic he'd be good to go for the start of camp, but isn't ready after sitting out the entire offseason program. This being the Pats, there's little hard info on Dobson's recovery, but we doubt his stay on the PUP list will be a long one. Dobson can be activated at any time.

Bengals placed DT Geno Atkins (knee) on the active/PUP list.

Joining him there will be OG Clint Boling (knee), LB Marquis Flowers (hamstring), CB Leon Hall (Achilles), P Kevin Huber (neck), WR Colin Lockett (hamstring), DT Zach Minter (back), DT Devon Still (back) and WR Ryan Whalen (hamstring). Updates on Atkins' status have been scarce, but he's now roughly nine months removed from blowing out his knee. He could end up missing the entire preseason, but should still be considered better than 50-50 to be ready for Week 1. His status will be updated in the coming weeks.

The Toronto Argonauts have signed former Bucs QB Brett Smith.

A draftnik favorite, dual-threat Smith lasted only 11 days with Tampa Bay after making 35 career starts at Wyoming, where he compiled a 17-18 record, 76:28 TD-to-INT ratio, and 20 rushing touchdowns. Only 22 years old, Smith could eventually resurface in the NFL if he gets stronger during his time in Canada.

David Wilson (neck) tweeted Monday that he's been "cleared for everything."

It's fantastic news for Wilson, whose career appeared to be in jeopardy following a Week 5 neck injury and subsequent surgery. Now he can focus on football again, an area he struggled badly with last season while getting blown up in pass protection, averaging 3.31 YPC and losing two fumbles. Still, there's more than enough natural running ability here for the Giants to unleash Wilson as an explosive early-down change of pace behind Rashad Jennings. Don't be surprised if Wilson ends up earning at least 6-8 carries as soon as Week 1.

ESPN's Dan Graziano reports Giants RG Chris Snee will announce his retirement from the NFL on Monday.

Hat tip to Giants blog Big Blue Interactive for having this before anyone else. Initial reports indicated Snee would meet with team brass to discuss retirement, but Graziano reports Snee "has indeed decided to retire" at age 32. The four-time Pro Bowler's loss is a big one for Big Blue, as Brandon Mosley (59 career snaps) is now ticketed for right guard duties, with Will Beatty, Geoff Schwartz, J.D. Walton, and Justin Pugh at the other four spots. O-Line injuries torpedoed the Giants' running game last season. While we're trying to stay optimistic that won't happen again this year, things have certainly not gotten off on the right foot.

Bills coach Doug Marrone revealed Sunday that DT Marcell Dareus opened camp on active/PUP because he couldn't pass the team's conditioning tests.

The Bills were the first team to open training camp when they took the field Sunday evening. Dareus went on active/PUP on Saturday. It should only be a day-to-day situation, but is another red flag following Dareus' two offseason arrests, one for drag racing and another for possession of synthetic marijuana. He's also regularly late to team meetings. Although Dareus is a Pro Bowl-caliber player, the Bills have to be growing wary of signing him to a high-dollar long-term extension. They do have Dareus under control for the next two seasons.

Jaguars OC Jedd Fisch made it clear he envisions Jordan Todman as a "change of pace" back.

Toby Gerhart detractors have suggested Todman might pose a threat to Gerhart's workload or even his starting job, but Fisch doesn't seem to agree. "Those two guys are truly change-of-pace backs," Fisch said of Todman and Denard Robinson, who are vying for the pace-change role behind Gerhart. Fisch did praise Todman's "burst, speed and acceleration." Gerhart lacks a clear handcuff with Todman, Robinson, and Storm Johnson all competing for backup duties.

CBS 4 in Miami reports Rams SLB Jo-Lonn Dunbar was arrested outside of a South Beach club early Sunday on battery and disorderly conduct charges.

Dunbar was allegedly hanging with ex-Sacramento Kings guard Donte Green when a "physical altercation" broke out. No further details are available. Dunbar was suspended four games in 2013 for violating the NFL's PED policy, but has otherwise not had run-ins with the law as a pro. The Rams re-signed Dunbar to a two-year, $3.5 million deal in March. He's their starting Sam 'backer.
