Giants signed TE Brandon Myers, formerly of the Raiders, to a one-year contract.

After losing Martellus Bennett to the Bears, Myers will likely open 2013 as the Giants' new starter, ahead of raw 2012 fourth-rounder Adrien Robinson. It's a solid, low-risk signing by the G-Men. Myers broke out last season as an efficient underneath option for Carson Palmer, securing career bests in catches (79), yards (806), and touchdowns (4). His 78-percent catch rate led the NFL among tight ends with at least 50 targets. Myers is a poor blocker, but he could push for 6-8 TD catches as a reliable red-zone presence for Eli Manning.

Saints GM Mickey Loomis confirmed the team is "kicking the tires" on Patriots CB Malcolm Butler.

"We’re kicking the tires, I guess is the best way to describe that," were Loomis' exact words. "We’ll see how that process works." The "process" has been going on for at least two weeks. Butler visited New Orleans on March 14. The Pats, as usual, aren't blinking, and are waiting to extract the best-possible offer. Owner Bob Kraft said on Monday it wasn't the team's "intention" to trade Butler. A restricted free agent, Butler has yet to sign his $3.91 million tender.

Browns coach Hue Jackson says the team has no interest in trading the No. 1 overall pick.

"No," coach Hue Jackson said. "I can tell you no on that one." The Browns appear to be zeroing in on Texas A&M edge rusher Myles Garrett, a player they've reportedly assigned an "astronomical grade," and believe can be an "immediate franchise-changer." If Cleveland addresses quarterback on Day 1, it will be at No. 12, or after a trade up.

The NFL has banned defensive leaping on field goal and extra point attempts.

The league has also approved automatic ejections for "egregious" hits to the head. Shortening the overtime period from 15 to 10 minutes was tabled. The "leaping" ban was instituted in the interest of player safety. As far as we know, no linemen were hurt in the process last season.

Titans coach Mike Mularkey reiterated on Tuesday that DeMarco Murray remains the team's "workhorse."

Mularkey said the same thing last month. It stands to reason that sophomore Derrick Henry will get more opportunities following an impressive rookie campaign, but at least to begin the year, the Titans will attempt to maintain the status quo. Headed into his age-29 season, Murray faded down the stretch in 2016.

Jason Witten's new five-year deal is worth $29.6 million, but includes no new guaranteed money.

In other words, it's mostly a salary cap contortion that lowers Witten's 2017 cap number and takes care of his 2018 "will he or won't he return to the Cowboys?" status ahead of time. Going on 35, Witten's career is on a year-by-year basis at this point.

Colts coach Chuck Pagano said adding a young runner is "paramount."

Frank Gore remained reasonably effective last season, but he will turn 34 in May and is clearly trending downward. Indy did re-sign Robert Turbin earlier this month, but they need to look toward the future at the position. It will not be surprising if the Colts spend an early pick on a running back.

Eagles signed DE Chris Long, formerly of the Patriots, to a two-year contract.

NFL Network's Ian Rapoport reports he will make close to the $2.4 million he earned with the Patriots last season. The Eagles have plenty of talent along the defensive line, but Long is a solid addition both as a situational pass rusher and locker-room asset. 32 today, Long recorded four sacks during his one year in New England.

Ravens coach John Harbaugh said he would be interested in bringing back free agent Anquan Boldin.

"I do believe he can still play at the highest level," Harbaugh said. Boldin played for the Ravens from 2010-12 and would fill their need for a possession receiver. The veteran will return for his 15th season, but he is not expected to sign until closer to training camp. Boldin caught 67 passes for 584 yards (8.7 YPR) and eight scores with the Lions last season.

Ravens coach John Harbaugh said Terrance West is currently the No. 1 running back on the depth chart.

That could certainly change during the offseason, but it is a reminder West is likely to retain a role in Baltimore's backfield, especially with Kenneth Dixon suspended for the first four games. West rushed 193 times for 774 yards (4 YPC) and five touchdowns last season.

Cowboys signed Jason Witten to a four-year extension through 2021.

It is a shock both because EVP Stephen Jones said there were no plans to extend Witten exactly a month ago and the extension keeps him under contract through his age-39 season. The deal likely will lower his $12.262 million cap hit this year, however, and the length of the contract should keep his cap number down for the next several seasons. Witten should become the franchise leader in receiving yards this year.

Broncos coach Vance Joseph said Tony Romo "is a non-issue."

"We haven't had one meeting about Romo," Joseph added. Considering John Elway said the Broncos have no "intent" to pursue Romo even if he is released, it is pretty clear Denver wants to put this situation to bed. It looks like it is Texans or retirement for Romo at this point.
