ESPN's Adam Schefter reports the Falcons are making a "strong push" to sign free agent Osi Umenyiora.

If forced to guess right now, we'd project Osi to Atlanta, Elvis Dumervil to Baltimore, Dwight Freeney to Denver, and John Abraham to New England. Per Schefter, the Falcons are trying to wrap up a Umenyiora deal "before the end of the weekend." Umenyiora is 3 1/2 years younger than Abraham. He'd likely replace Abraham at right defensive end, with Kroy Biermann on the left side.

Bengals WLB Vontaze Burfict recently underwent microfracture surgery on his left knee.

Microfracture surgery is one of the most serious procedures an athlete can undergo, as it involves drilling tiny fractures into the bone in an effort to develop new cartilage. This knee can now be considered a chronic concern for Burfict, who underwent surgery on the same joint in late October and played in just five games all year. For what it's worth, Burfict's surgeon says it's still very possible his patient will be ready for 2015 training camp. Linebacker has become a big need area in Cincinnati with Burfict's health uncertain, and MLB Rey Maualuga and SLB Emmanuel Lamur's contracts both expiring.

FOX Sports' Alex Marvez reports "lots of folks" inside the NFL are "optimistic" suspended WR Justin Blackmon will return to the Jaguars in 2015.

Just as Josh Gordon's Dynasty league owners get the worst news possible, Blackmon's get a ray of hope. The Jaguars hope to have an update on Blackmon's progress before May's draft, at which point they can begin planning for the 2015 season. Blackmon remains "suspended indefinitely," with no concrete date for potential reinstatement. At Jaguars GM Dave Caldwell's season-ending presser this past December, he said he'd "heard some good things" about Blackmon's recovery from substance abuse. Blackmon turned 25 two weeks ago. His return would be a huge boost for beleaguered Blake Bortles.

Profootballtalk's Mike Florio confirms Josh Gordon's one-year suspension stems from a failed test for alcohol, a substance Gordon was prohibited from consuming following his July 2014 DUI.

Consuming alcohol seems minor to all of us, but it was explicitly banned for Gordon as part of his DUI treatment plan. As NFL Network's Ian Rapoport noted on Twitter, the NFL's substance abuse policy is "extremely strict and spelled out. He'll wait for 2016." Gordon will be 25 1/2 years old when the 2016 season kicks off. He led the NFL in receiving yards at age 22.

ESPN's Adam Schefter reports Josh Gordon has flunked yet another drug test and will be subject to a one-year suspension.

Details aren't yet known, but should trickle out within the next 48 hours. Gordon was suspended ten games to open the 2014 season for multiple failed drug tests. The Browns also suspended him for Week 17 following a violation of team rules. There were postseason rumors the Browns might try trading Gordon this offseason, but the latest ban effectively torpedoes his trade value. The Browns may outright release him shortly.

Saints signed CB Delvin Breaux.

A shutdown corner in the CFL, Breaux received strong interest from NFL teams this offseason. He lands in a good spot with the Saints, who had some of the worst cornerback play in the league last year. At 6-foot-1, 195, Breaux has prototype size for Rob Ryan's Press Man concepts. With Keenan Lewis and Terrence Frederick currently atop the Saints' depth chart, Breaux will have a chance for immediate playing time.

Seahawks GM John Schneider said re-signing impending free-agent RCB Byron Maxwell is "one of our first priorities."

Targeted frequently by teams afraid to attack Richard Sherman, Maxwell has more than held his own as a starter the past two seasons and would find several interested parties on the open market. The Eagles have already been linked with Maxwell, a big, long-armed press corner with the ability to play both outside and in the slot. The Seahawks will have to pay if they expect to keep Maxwell. He is Rotoworld's No. 1 free-agent corner.

Jets named Kacy Rodgers their defensive coordinator.

If the Dolphins were smart, they would've ousted Kevin Coyle and made Rodgers their defensive coordinator. Instead, Rodgers departs to re-team with Todd Bowles. Both are Bill Parcells disciples. One of the top D-Line gurus in football, Rodgers coached up Olivier Vernon, Cam Wake, and Jared Odrick in Miami, while getting career-best years from Randy Starks and Paul Soliai.

Citing nearly 20 Browns sources, ESPN's Jeremy Fowler and Pat McManamon report Johnny Manziel exhibited a "year-long pattern" of lacking commitment and preparation to football and a "continued commitment to nightlife" during his rookie year.

One player called Manziel a "100 percent joke." Team security reportedly found Manziel "drunk off his a--" the morning before the Browns' season finale. He was fined for missing a treatment for his injured hamstring and spent the Week 17 loss to Baltimore in Cleveland's locker room. During his first NFL start, "Several sources said Manziel either didn't know the plays in the huddle or didn't call them correctly." Sources also told Fowler and McManamon that since-departed OC Kyle Shanahan preferred Jimmy Garoppolo and Tom Savage to Manziel as a 2014 draft prospect. Fowler and McManamon claim Manziel still has some "support in the (Browns') building," though it's mostly "on the business side."

The NFL issued a statement Friday on "DeflateGate," saying it's been determined that footballs used by the Patriots in the second half of Sunday's AFC Championship Game were properly inflated, but footballs used by the Patriots in the first half were "under-inflated."

The investigation is being led by Ted Wells and Jeff Pash. Wells and Pash have interviewed 40 people, and their investigation remains "ongoing" with no timetable for a resolution. Per the initial statement, "The goals of the investigation will be to determine the explanation for why footballs used in the game were not in compliance with the playing rules and specifically whether any noncompliance was the result of deliberate action." The Patriots have publicly denied altering footballs at any point before or during last Sunday's game.

Colts GM Ryan Grigson declined to commit to Trent Richardson being back with the team in 2015.

This comes as a surprise to no one. Grigson also confirmed the Colts suspended Richardson for two games prior to the AFC Championship game loss to the Patriots because of "personal reasons." He wasn't going to play even if the Colts made it to the Super Bowl. Richardson is in real danger of losing his roster spot despite a fully-guaranteed $3.184 million salary. The Colts would be paying him just to make him disappear. Richardson needs to hit the gym this offseason.

Saints owner Tom Benson is being sued by his daughter and grandchildren after announcing Thursday that he planned to change his will to leave the team to his wife.

The Saints have long been slated to be left to Benson's daughter and grandchildren, but that abruptly changed Thursday when Benson announced he intended to leave the team to his wife of 10 years. The daughter and grandchildren's lawsuit alleges that Benson — who is 87 — is no longer mentally competent, and being manipulated by his wife. At stake is a fortune of more than $2 billion, which includes the NBA's Pelicans as well as the Saints. The drama has reportedly been brewing behind the scenes for some time.
