Mike Jurecki of XTRA Phoenix reports the Cardinals are "looking into" trading for Carson Palmer.

Getting any compensation for a 33-year-old quarterback with a $13M salary would be quite the coup for Raiders GM Reggie McKenzie. Per Jurecki, the Cards would need Palmer to rework his contract and the only picks they're willing to surrender would be "conditional," based on play time and performance. A late-Friday tweet from the Arizona Republic's Kent Somers also indicated the Cardinals might be willing to part with "late pick(s), conditional" for the two-time Pro Bowler.

The Steelers are not expected to turn to third-round pick Sammie Coates for a prominent role during Martavis Bryant's suspension.

Both Ben Roethlisberger and coach Mike Tomlin said Tuesday that the Steelers are counting on special teamer Darrius Heyward-Bey to "pick up the slack," and not Coates. Coates has generally looked lost this preseason, and could end up an early-season game-day scratch even with Bryant serving a four-game ban. As for the Steelers, it seems more likely they'll use more two-tight end sets than lean heavily on Heyward-Bey in the passing game.

The Indianapolis Star reports the Colts have "discussed" placing DT Arthur Jones (ankle) on injured reserve/designated for return.

Jones injured his ankle in the Colts' third preseason game over the weekend and is seeking multiple opinions from doctors. It would be a big loss for the Colts after he missed seven games and parts of others last season with an ankle injury. Signed to a $33 million deal last offseason, Jones was expected to be the anchor of the defensive line both as a pass rusher and in run defense.

The Fort Worth Star-Telegram suggests Joseph Randle may open the season handling 10-15 carries per game "with (Darren) McFadden slightly below that."

"At the end of the day, we’re both going to get carries however they decide to play it out," said McFadden. Both backs seem resigned to the fact that the Cowboys are committed to a running back by committee. Beat writer Drew Davison confirms none of Dallas' backs "has done enough to separate themselves from the pack." McFadden is shaping up as a dicey flex play to begin the year, while Randle will be toward the back end of RB2s. Lance Dunbar will eat into both players' production in the passing game, further muddying the situation.

Travis Kelce dropped out of Monday's practice with a "slight" ankle sprain.

Kelce missed Tuesday's session. We don't usually post such minor injury situations on Rotoworld, but have seen people freaking out about Kelce on Twitter. Coach Andy Reid stated after Tuesday's practice that Kelce has a "slightly" sprained ankle, and it is not of the high variety. Reid added that Kelce would be able to play if the Chiefs had a regular season game this week.

Randall Cobb (shoulder) expects to be ready for Week 1.

"I don't plan on missing a game," Cobb said. "I'm doing everything in my power to get back before then." The Packers are notoriously cautious with injuries, but most signs point toward Cobb being ready to go in 12 days against the Bears.

Federal judge Richard Berman expects a ruling in the Tom Brady case by the "end of the week."

A decision was tentatively expected to come down on Tuesday, but that isn't happening. Berman could be giving the sides more time to reach a settlement, but it's reportedly unlikely. Thankfully the melodramatic food fight will be over before Week 1.

Browns released NT Phil Taylor.

The first-rounder the Browns got after deciding to trade down and pass on Julio Jones in 2011, Taylor never emerged as more than a run-plugging specialist. He was limited to just five games last season after undergoing a knee scope. Taylor is still a viable NFLer, so it's a bit of a surprising move. The Browns are on the hook for Taylor's $5.477 million salary. Taylor should latch on elsewhere relatively quickly.

Saints waived/injured WR Nick Toon.

Waived/injured will send Toon through waivers before landing him on season-ending injured reserve. He could then be outright waived when he returns to health. Toon caught just two preseason passes for 11 yards before going down in the second exhibition game. He never really put any heat on Brandon Coleman for No. 3 duties, even though Coleman has had a middling summer.

Bears coach John Fox was "terse and non-specific" when asked about Alshon Jeffery's calf injury on Tuesday.

Jeffery hasn't practiced since August 11. Fox's Tuesday attitude is alarming on its face, but the Bears' new head coach has already made it clear he thinks he doesn't owe anyone anything when it comes to injury information. Fox views the trivial details of his team as top secret information to be protected in a bunker. It's always concerning when a player misses nearly three weeks of practice, but there's still no compelling reason to believe Jeffery won't be ready for Week 1.

Jets placed TE Jace Amaro (shoulder surgery) on injured reserve, ending his season.

The 23-year-old tight end has a torn labrum. He suffered the injury in the Jets' preseason opener. It's a bitterly disappointing end to what needed to be a big season for a player who underwhelmed as a rookie. Now Amaro will enter his third camp next summer on the hot seat after being the No. 49 overall pick of last year's draft. Jeff Cumberland and Kellen Davis are the next men up on the depth chart. It's a sorry group. Amaro is an end-of-bench type in Dynasty leagues.

According to Pro Football Focus, Jimmy Graham has been used as a run blocker on 36.5 percent of his 52 preseason snaps.

Graham was used as a run blocker on 27.1 percent of his snaps in New Orleans last season. Seattle threw the ball 200 fewer times than the Saints last season, meaning Graham is almost certain to see fewer than the 138 targets he has averaged the last four seasons. He has the touchdown upside to make up for the lost volume, but he is being over-drafted in the third round.
