Profootballtalk reports there's an "increasing chance" the Bengals won't re-sign free agent RT Andre Smith.

According to a league source, the Bengals are "now inclined to see if they can find a cheaper and younger replacement for Smith via the draft." Amid a league-wide market "reset," Smith has refused to lower his asking price, and it's resulted in nearly nonexistent interest. At this point, Smith's best bet may be taking a one-year deal and hitting the market again in 2014. He'd draw big-time interest if his 2013 went anything like his 2012.

Dolphins coach Adam Gase doesn’t plan to scale back Jay Ajayi’s workload.

"You don’t want to take him out of his rhythm. It’s hard to take out the guy that’s really good," said Gase on Ajayi's every-down role. Ajayi had 30 touches and played on 94 percent of snaps last week. There’s rumblings Miami could back off his workload given his knee issues, but Ajayi’s missed practices look more maintenance related than a Week 3 concern. Ajayi could push for his fourth career 200-yard game in Sunday’s Jets matchup.

Jermaine Gresham (ribs) is questionable for Monday night's Week 3 game against the Cowboys.

Gresham was held out last week, but the Cardinals expect him to return after practicing on a limited basis. With John Brown sidelined and J.J. Nelson dealing with a hamstring issue, he could have an expanded pass-game role. Gresham has a streamable matchup against an injured Dallas secondary.

Lions signed coach Jim Caldwell to a multi-year extension.

Caldwell entered this season as a lame-duck coach, but the Lions had a deal in place for months. There was speculation over his job security under GM Bob Quinn, who was left with Caldwell from the Martin Mayhew regime. Caldwell has a 29-21 record and a pair of Wild Card berths in his three-plus seasons in Detroit, though the Lions have been a middling offense under him. Caldwell's extension leaves Marvin Lewis as the only coach remaining on an expiring deal.

49ers OLB Tank Carradine (ankle) is expected to miss 4-6 weeks.

It's the standard timeline for high-ankle sprains. There was concern Carradine could be shut down for the season, but he'll likely avoid IR. Elvis Dumervil should pick up Carradine's snaps.

Melvin Gordon (questionable, knee) is on track to play in Sunday’s game with Kansas City.

Gordon was limited the last two days with knee soreness. Coach Anthony Lynn expects him to play this week despite the questionable tag. Gordon has struggled on a per-carry basis, but is a good bet to score against a Chiefs defense that’s allowed the third most rushing touchdowns in the league.

ESPN’s Michael DiRocco expects Dede Westbrook (IR, core muscle surgery) to return this season.

Westbrook is recovering from early September surgery, with his timetable likely around six weeks. That gives him a chance to return after eight games when first eligible. With Allen Robinson out for the year, there’s a clear path to targets when Westbrook gets healthy. Westbrook had a blowup preseason, going over 100 yards or a touchdown in all three games. The reigning Biletnikoff winner has the talent to overtake Allen Hurns and Marqise Lee.

Chargers CB Jason Verrett will undergo season-ending knee surgery.

He will be placed on injured reserve. It is a big blow to a secondary which could have been among the best in the league. The Chargers still have Casey Hayward to chase around No. 1 receivers, but undrafted sophomore Trevor Williams is a question on the other side, although he has played well through two weeks. Verrett has the talent to be one of the best cover men in the league, but he has now played just 25 games in four seasons including just five the last two years.

ESPN's Cameron Wolfe believes Titans WR Taywan Taylor will see a "significant increase in his role" Week 3 with Corey Davis (hamstring) sidelined.

Taylor hasn't played much this season, only recording 18 snaps through two weeks. His biggest play has been a 42-yard reception against the Jaguars. He'll have an opportunity to prove himself in Week 3 with an increased role, but it won't be easy against the Seahawks.

Dolphins RB Jay Ajayi said he was "feeling good" during Friday's practice.

"I feel like we have a good plan," Ajayi said. It looks like Ajayi will play, but how much work he will get is unknown. It seems unlikely he will get the 30 touches he had in Week 2, but he won't need a big workload to rack up fantasy points against the Jets. Ajayi should be in your lineup as long as he plays on Sunday.

Ezekiel Elliott’s hearing with the Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals is scheduled for October 2.

It means Elliott is eligible to play at least the next two weeks. Elliott’s six-game suspension could kick in as soon as Week 5, depending on if the Fifth Circuit rules against his injunction. It's more legal drama that further muddles Zeke's status. Coming off a career-worst game at Denver, Elliott's rest-of-season outlook is trending down.

Coach Pete Carroll said Jimmy Graham (questionable, ankle) "should be fine" for Sunday's game against the Titans.

Graham was held out early this week to rest ankle and knee issues. He returned to practice Friday, putting him on track to be active. Graham still can't be completely trusted with the Seahawks on a late game. Playing injured and a non-factor the first two weeks, Graham is a high-risk TE1.
