According to the Cleveland Plain Dealer's Mary Kay Cabot, the Browns have "identified" Jordan Cameron as their 2013 starting tight end.

It would be a bold endorsement for an inexperienced former basketball player with the draft left to go, but could have major 2013 fantasy implications because of Norv Turner and Rob Chudzinski's documented history of highly productive tight end play. Cabot expects Cameron to take a "big step this year" and "have plenty of production." We really liked what we saw from Cameron last preseason. We're still skeptical he'll be guaranteed the starting job.

LeGarrette Blount rushed five times for 26 yards and caught all three of his targets for 16 yards Friday night against the Panthers.

The real story of the night was Tyler Gaffney, who started the game and rotated series with Blount all night. Blount did his best to make his claim for the starting job, including a long gain which he ended by hurdling Tre Boston, but it's clear his spot atop the depth chart is at the very least contested. Blount has RB2 upside with Dion Lewis (knee) sidelined, but he needs to solidify his role.

Jameis Winston completed 16-of-25 passes for 259 yards and two touchdowns in the Bucs' third preseason game against the Browns.

He added two carries for nine yards. The Bucs opened the night in no-huddle, and Winston looked extremely comfortable in the hurry-up offense. Coach Dirk Koetter got him on the move on rollouts and bootlegs, letting Winston find open space to hit Vincent Jackson and Mike Evans for numerous chunk gains. Jackson posted a 4078 line, and Evans exploded for 5-115-1, catching a 49-yard bomb behind Justin Gilbert on a 49-yard gain and then leaping over the smaller Jamar Taylor for a 34-yard touchdown to finish the same drive. Winston's other score went to Charles Sims. The Browns didn't put up much of a fight, but Winston was flawless on Friday.

Tyler Gaffney rushed seven times for 33 yards Friday night against the Panthers.

Gaffney started the game over LeGarrette Blount and ended up splitting possessions with the veteran while the first-team offense was on the field. He took advantage of the opportunity, sprinting off the left side for a 14-yard gain on his first carry and opening a touchdown drive with a 15-yard scamper. Gaffney has steadily been earning work with the first-team offense, and he now looks like a legitimate threat to Blount's workload. He is worth a look late even in standard formats.

Jimmy Garoppolo completed 9-of-15 passes for 57 yards in the Patriots' third preseason game Friday night.

Garoppolo got the start, but he only played three possessions before giving up the reins to Tom Brady, who immediately led the team on two scoring drives. Garoppolo took back over for a couple possessions on both sides of the half. Garoppolo was not terrible Friday night, but he seemed to struggle when pressured, missed a couple open receivers down field, and should have turned the ball over at least twice. He should be a serviceable starter while Brady is suspended, but it is unlikely Garoppolo puts up big fantasy numbers. He is certainly not worth using Week 1 against the Cardinals.

C.J. Spiller rushed four times for 20 yards and caught 3-of-3 targets for -1 yards in the Saints' third preseason game.

The biggest takeaway is Spiller ran extensively with the first-team offense. He also got first-team run in the second week of preseason, making this a recurring theme. Spiller "started" and essentially rotated evenly with Mark Ingram when Drew Brees was in the game. Spiller seemingly came close to breaking a few big runs, but was caught by his shoelace once and dragged down in the open field on another. Spiller has burned fantasy owners plenty in the past, but he's worth a look in the late rounds of PPR leagues. He'd be easy to drop if he does nothing when the real games start.

Robert Griffin III completed just 8-of-14 passes for 119 yards and one touchdown in the Browns' third preseason game Friday night.

The Bucs field one of the least-inspiring pass-rush groups in the league, but they recorded five sacks on RGIII in the first half, while knocking him down a number of other times. They especially got after the quarterback on third down, as coach Hue Jackson dialed up a lot of long-developing plays only to see his offensive line not be able to hold its blocks. RGIII finished the night on a high note, however, hitting Josh Gordon deep for a 43-yard touchdown. Gordon did all the work, though, manhandling pint-sized CB Brent Grimes and adjusting to the ball in the air. Last week, RGIII looked phenomenal. Tonight, he was pummeled. The inconsistency is what keeps him a boom-or-bust QB2.

Kirk Cousins completed 12-of-23 passes for 188 yards, three touchdowns, and one interception in one half of action during Friday night's third preseason game.

Cousins chucked an ugly pick on the sideline to kills Redskins' first drive, throwing far outside the numbers off his back foot. He atoned with touchdown passes to Pierre Garcon, Jordan Reed, and Ryan Grant, catching fire in the second quarter as the Bills rested more of their first-team defenders. Tonight's stat line was a little better than Cousins played, but he remains one of the premier late-round quarterback picks due to his elite weapons, pass-first offense, and soft schedule in the first half of the season.

Antonio Brown secured 4-of-4 targets for 87 yards and a touchdown in the Steelers' third preseason game.

Brown did all of his damage in just over eight minutes of action. The Steelers' offense cut through the Saints' barely-there defense like a hot knife in butter. Brown was Ben Roethlisberger's go-to guy as usual, dusting past Saints rookie CB De'Vante Harris on his 57-yard touchdown. Due to the Steelers' weapons shortage, Brown has the highest raw target projection in the league this season. He should be the consensus 1.01 fantasy pick.

Ben Roethlisberger completed 12-of-17 passes for 147 yards and two touchdowns in two possessions during Thursday night's third preseason game.

As Ben should, he carved up the Saints' swiss-cheese defense amidst zero pass rush. Picking on rookie CB De'Vante Harris, Roethlisberger found Antonio Brown for a 57-yard TD after connecting with TE Jesse James in the red zone for his first score. Roethlisberger's weaponry has taken a hit, but he remains a top-eight fantasy quarterback. His ADP is just a bit rich for our taste.
Aug 26 - 9:25 PM

Cam Newton completed 13-of-29 passes for 100 yards and two interceptions Friday night against the Patriots.

Newton struggled all night, overthrowing Kelvin Benjamin badly on two early throws and showing inconsistent accuracy despite little to no pressure. Both interceptions came on back-foot throws, the first of which was a terrible ball thrown ball both short and too far infield. Newton was victimized by a few drops including a sure touchdown muffed by Ed Dickson, but he played his part in the first-team offense failing to find the end zone despite playing almost all of the third quarter. It was an ugly game, but ultimately not much of a concern for the reigning MVP. He is still safe to take as the overall QB1.
Aug 26 - 8:51 PM

Rookie RB Keith Marshall exited Friday night's preseason game with a sprained elbow.

It's probably a day-to-day injury, but will cost Marshall a big opportunity with Matt Jones (shoulder) inactive. Marshall was rotating first-team snaps with Rob Kelley in the Kirk Cousins group before going for X-rays on his arm. Marshall's injury may force the Skins to add a running back via free agency or trade.
