NFL suspended free agent S James Sanders four games for violating the league's policy on performance-enhancing substances.

Sanders, 29, appeared in 15 games for the Cardinals last season, making 19 tackles mainly as a special teams player. He visited the Steelers three weeks ago, but it has been his only trip of free agency. Sanders will be eligible to return to game action in Week 5.

The New Orleans Times-Picayune is "not so sure" C.J. Spiller's roster spot is safe.

The Akron Beacon-Journal's Nate Ulrich still projects Isaiah Crowell as the Browns' starting running back.

Crowell threw himself into hot water by posting a disturbing photo on his Instagram account earlier this month, but he has seemed genuinely apologetic since the incident and has spent time trying to repair his relationship with law enforcement. Considering he is still on the roster, it looks as if the Browns plan to give him a chance to redeem himself. Even so, it is not a given he holds off Duke Johnson in camp, and the sophomore will have a role no matter what. Crowell is still a good value at RB42, but he carries a lot more risk than he did a month ago.

The San Jose Mercury News' Cam Inman believes 49ers WR Bruce Ellington will win the starting job opposite Torrey Smith.

Blaine Gabbert talked up Ellington this offseason, saying he "balled out" and "caught a ton of balls" during OTAs. It sounds like Ellington could easily beat out disappointing fourth-year WR Quinton Patton, who could lose the No. 3 job to CFL import Eric Rogers. On a team which could be forced to throw early and often, Ellington is an interesting late-round target.

Falcons coach Dan Quinn said using both Devonta Freeman and Tevin Coleman is best for the team.

Freeman is still expected to be the lead back, but it is clear Coleman will have a much bigger role after seeing just 89 touches as a rookie. Even so, with Freeman dominating the passing-down and red-zone work, it is tough to see Coleman carrying any standalone value while Freeman is healthy. Coleman would be a borderline RB1 if something happened to Freeman, however, making him a great, high-upside target in the middle rounds.

Drew Rosenhaus believes Browns coach Hue Jackson is "very committed" to working with Josh Gordon.

"I do believe the Browns are a big part of Josh getting reinstated," Rosenhaus said on PFT Live. "I really do think that the Browns are committed to Josh and want to see him succeed." The Browns released a statement on Monday confirming Gordon will get another chance, and it appears they are privately giving off the impression they are willing to work with him as well. Gordon is expected to report to camp a couple days early this week.

Pro Football Talk reports the Bills and free agent RB Reggie Bush are still talking.

Bush was heavily linked with Buffalo following the four-game suspension to Karlos Williams, but Bush wants to take his time with the decision. "As of right now, I haven’t made a decision," Bush said earlier this month. "I’m still trying to figure out what’s going to be the best opportunity for me and my family." With no other reported interest in the former No. 2 overall pick, it would be surprising if he did not end up with Buffalo.

Falcons GM Thomas Dimitroff said the team is still looking at free agent DE/OLB Dwight Freeney.

Freeney surprised with eight sacks in 11 games with the Cardinals last season, but the 36-year-old has not found much interest on the open market. He did visit with the Falcons in May, but Atlanta decided to pass. It is possible they will change their mind if they do not like what they see early in camp. The Bengals and Bucs have also been linked.

Colts OC Rob Chudzinski said sophomore WR Phillip Dorsett can be a "big-time playmaker."

With Coby Fleener in New Orleans, the Colts are expected to utilize more three-wide sets moving forward. That should open up a much bigger role for Dorsett, who was limited to 11 games and 39 targets as a rookie. The Colts lost over 220 targets from last season. It would not be surprising if a decent chunk of those looks went to Dorsett.

Falcons released KR/WR Devin Hester.

Hester struggled to recover from January surgery to repair two broken sesamoid bones in his right big toe, but it is possible he would have been cut even without the injury. Primarily a kick returner in his two seasons with Atlanta, Hester's value has been damaged by the new kickoff rules. He could latch on somewhere else if he is able to get healthy, but the 33-year-old is nearing the end of the line.

Packers coach Mike McCarthy said there are no long-term concerns about Jordy Nelson's (active/PUP) knee.

Nelson was somewhat surprisingly placed on the active/PUP list to start camp, but it sounds like the Packers are just being cautious. He can be removed from the list at any time. Almost a full year removed from tearing his ACL, Nelson's stay on the PUP should be fairly short.

Speaking on PFT Live, ESPN Cleveland's Tony Grossi said the Browns' quarterback battle is "not an open competition."

Grossi said Robert Griffin III will get four out of five reps with the first-team offense. Coach Hue Jackson has refused to name Griffin the starter heading into camp, but it appears the job is all but sewn up. If third-rounder Cody Kessler shows well enough to earn the backup job, the Browns could trade Josh McCown in camp.
