Panthers selected Purdue DT Kawann Short with the No. 44 overall pick.

That's two picks, two defensive tackles for the Panthers. As ESPN's Todd McShay said on air, it's a boom-or-bust pick. Short (6-foot-3, 299) is blessed with talent, but was maddeningly inconsistent as a Boilermaker. NFL Films' Greg Cosell has described him as a "frustrating player to watch" with a "glaring lack of consistent effort and execution." He didn't play hard enough. Short still racked up 15.5 tackles for loss and seven sacks as a senior, in addition to four kick blocks. He projects as a three-technique tackle.

According to FOX's Jay Glazer, DeAngelo Williams (hand) will not play in Sunday's Week 17 game at Atlanta.

It's a bit of a surprise as Williams was listed as probable. But the Panthers coaches aren't comfortable with his blocking and they also seem to finally realize that saddling up Jonathan Stewart as a true feature back is their optimal play. Expect another 20-plus touches for the red-hot Stewart in Sunday's game for the NFC South crown.

ESPN's Chris Mortensen confirms the Jets are expected to fire GM John Idzik.

This was fully expected, especially after the Jets' own website published stories this week on Idzik's failings as a general manager. Per Mort, owner Woody Johnson will leave Rex Ryan's fate in the hands of the Jets' next GM. Johnson would love to keep Rex -- he's a top-ten NFL head coach -- but New York's next decision maker may deem it best to clean house. Rex cleaned out his office this week, but "he has not been told he is out."

Julian Edelman (concussion) has been declared inactive for Week 17 against the Bills.

A Saturday report said any Patriot carrying even the slightest of injuries would be inactive in the meaningless season finale, so Edelman appears to be a victim of that policy. He got in limited practices this week and should be good to go following the Patriots first-round bye. New England also declared TE Rob Gronkowski, RB Jonas Gray, OG Dan Connolly, OT Sebastian Vollmer, LB Donta Hightower and CB Brandon Browner inactive against the Bills.
Dec 28 - 11:43 AM

Jets declared WR Percy Harvin, QB Matt Simms, WR Walter Powell, S Jaiquawn Jarrett, G Wesley Johnson, C Nick Mangold, and DT T.J. Barnes inactive for Week 17 against the Dolphins.

The absence of Harvin makes Eric Decker a sneaky-if-contrarian DFS play against the Fins. Even versus Miami's fading defense, New York's running game is probably going to struggle with All-Pro center Mangold on the shelf.
Dec 28 - 11:40 AM

T.Y. Hilton (hamstring) is active and Dwayne Allen (knee) is inactive for Sunday's Week 17 game at Tennessee.

Even though the Colts have almost nothing to play for, Hilton is a go as they try to get their offense on track. It's unclear how long he'll play. Meanwhile, Allen's absence gives Coby Fleener a big boost. The rest of the Colts inactives: DB Sheldon Price, LB Jerrell Freeman, OL Joe Reitz, OL Gosder Cherilus, LB Bjoern Werner, DL Zach Kerr.
Dec 28 - 11:38 AM

Patriots declared TE Rob Gronkowski inactive for Week 17 against the Bills.

With the No. 1 seed already locked up, New England is smartly holding Gronk out of a meaningless Week 17 contest with Buffalo. Tim Wright will earn the start in Gronk's place, but he is not a recommended option against the Bills' suffocating pass defense. Buffalo has allowed eight catches for 78 yards TOTAL to tight ends the last five games.
Dec 28 - 11:34 AM

Eagles declared LCB Bradley Fletcher inactive for Sunday's Week 17 finale against the Giants.

Fletcher was listed on the injury report with a hip injury, but this is more of a healthy scratch ahead of a matchup with Odell Beckham. Fletcher, who is headed for free agency, has been among the worst corners in the league all year and a weekly target for savvy fantasy football owners. The bigger question is how bad replacement Nolan Carroll must be in practice if he's not replacing Fletcher until Week 17. Don't downgrade ODB at all. The rest of the Eagles inactives: QB Nick Foles, S Jerome Couplin, OL Julian Vandervelde, OL Dennis Kelly, WR Jeff Maehl and DE Taylor Hart.
Dec 28 - 11:34 AM

Jamaal Charles (ankle, hamstring) is active for Week 17 against the Chargers.

Charles was listed as questionable, but practiced throughout the week. He should be locked into a heavy workload with Chase Daniel starting. The Chiefs inactives are QB Alex Smith, WR Donnie Avery, CB Phillip Gaines, CB Marcus Cooper, C Eric Kush, OL Laurent Duvernay-Tardif, and DL Nick Williams.
Dec 28 - 11:30 AM

Andre Williams (shoulder) and Rashad Jennings (ankle) are both active for Sunday's Week 17 game against the Eagles.

Expect a relatively even timeshare for Williams and Jennings in this one. We'd rather try to exploit the Eagles' defense with Eli Manning, Odell Beckham and the pass game. The Giants inactives: CB Jayron Hosley, LB Devon Kennard, G Eric Herman, OL Adam Gettis, TE Jerome Cunningham and DT Dominique Hamilton.
Dec 28 - 11:26 AM

Johnny Manziel (IR, hamstring) didn't show up on time for treatment on his injury Saturday and was fined.

Manziel threw a big party Friday night, one that was attended by Josh Gordon and other teammates. It was apparently a good time, as Gordon and Justin Gilbert both missed the Saturday walkthrough and got suspended. Meanwhile, Manziel wasn't at the facility ether Saturday and wasn't answering his phone, so team security was sent to find him. We can't imagine a worse rookie year for JFF, who lost a camp battle to Brian Hoyer, looked wildly unprepared and overwhelmed in two starts and failed to conduct himself well off the field. The Browns will be on the hunt for quarterback help again this offseason.
Dec 28 - 11:03 AM

According to ESPN's Bob Holtzman, A.J. Green (bicep) will play in Sunday night's game against the Steelers but is "uncertain what to expect."

Green "badly" bruised his bicep during last week's win over the Broncos. He attempted to play through it briefly, but was in too much pain and left for good in the third quarter. Green has obviously gotten some of the soreness out over the last six days and earned a "probable" tag, but he doesn't sound close to 100 percent.
