Bengals selected Nebraska RB Rex Burkhead with the No. 190 overall pick.

Burkhead (5-foot-10 1/4, 214) ran 4.73 at the Combine, but he's a better prospect than that. He's a quick short-area mover with agility and athleticism (39" vertical, 10-foot-5 broad jump). Straight-line long speed is probably the most overrated running back measurable, as evidenced by Alfred Morris' 4.72 forty. Burkhead rushed 635 times for 3,332 yards (5.25 YPC) and 30 touchdowns at Nebraska, adding 60 catches. Although he lacks explosive talent, Burkhead runs with superb vision and aggression, and can pick up a blitz. It's an excellent pick by the Bengals, who can transition away from BenJarvus Green-Ellis with rookies Gio Bernard and Burkhead.

Theo Riddick (wrist) returned to practice on Thursday.

He sat out with a wrist injury on Wednesday but was seen at the open portion of Thursday's session. There's no concern about his status for Week 14. Riddick has settled in as a weekly RB3 in fantasy.
Dec 8 - 1:10 PM

Julio Jones (turf toe) was limited to side work in Thursday's practice.

Jones took part in the walk-through, but not team drills. He'll be listed as "limited" or "DNP." ESPN's Adam Schefter has reported the Falcons are "optimistic" Jones will suit up against the Rams, but he's genuinely questionable. Even if he does play, it's quite possible he'll be a decoy. Jones is shaping up as a high-risk, high-reward option for the first week of the fantasy playoffs.

Florida Football Insiders' Roy Cummings believes "you could see" Jacquizz Rodgers "carrying the ball earlier and far more often" Week 14 against the Saints.

Cummings notes that Doug Martin is "still the lead back," but admits if Martin continues to struggle for yards like he has all season, OC Todd Monken could have a quick hook. Rodgers is averaging a healthy 4.4 YPC on the year, while Martin is sitting at 2.85 since coming back from a hamstring injury. Monken expressed frustration with the run game Wednesday and could be ready to do whatever it takes to get it on track. Martin is looking like a high-risk RB2/3, while Rodgers is nothing more than a flex option, though he has upside for more.
Dec 8 - 12:58 PM

Sammy Watkins (foot) returned to practice Thursday.

His Wednesday absence didn't seem to be any reason for concern after coach Rex Ryan said Watkins felt better coming out of Week 13 than he did Week 12. Watkins snaps went up last week, and we'd expect them to rise again this Sunday against the Steelers. Watkins will be a WR2/3 with big upside.
Dec 8 - 11:52 AM

Robert Griffin III will start Week 14 against the Bengals.

This was expected but is now official. The Browns want to see what they have in Griffin after losing him in the season opener. Griffin will get the final four weeks to audition for the 2017 starting job, but the odds are stacked against him. Cleveland can save $7.5 million from releasing Griffin this offseason.

ESPN's Adam Schefter reports the Falcons are "optimistic" Julio Jones (toe) will play this week.

Jones missed most of the fourth quarter last week with turf toe. He didn't practice Wednesday but the Falcons are expecting him to play through the injury. Jones is likely going to see a lot of Trumaine Johnson if he suits up. Even at less than 100 percent, he'll be a WR1 against the Rams.
Dec 8 - 10:34 AM

The New York Daily News reports impending free agent Jason Pierre-Paul's Giants future is up in the air.

Pierre-Paul is done for the season after undergoing sports-hernia surgery. It's possible he won't be back with the Giants after playing out this year on the franchise tag. Pierre-Paul graded as one of PFF's top 4-3 ends, but six of his seven sacks came against Cleveland and Chicago in the two weeks before he went down. Pierre-Paul is likely going to be targeting Olivier Vernon money (five years, $85M). He would cost the Giants $15.7 million to tag in 2017.
Dec 8 - 10:31 AM

Coach Doug Peterson said Ryan Mathews (knee) is "ready to go" for Week 14.

"He's good to play," Pederson said. "Cleared and ready to go." Mathews returned to practice for the first time in two weeks Wednesday. The Eagles struggled to run with him sidelined, rushing for just 134 yards combined. Mathews will resume lead back duties for Sunday's game with Washington.
Dec 8 - 10:11 AM

Falcons signed CB Robert Alford to a four-year, $38 million extension.

The deal includes $21 million guaranteed. It's a massive commitment, but Alford has quietly been one of the league's better cover corners the last two years. Alford was scheduled to be a free agent this offseason but the Falcons clearly didn't want to risk losing him. His contract shouldn't prevent Atlanta from locking up Desmond Trufant, who's entering a walk year in 2017.

The MMQB’s Albert Breer reports Rams coach Jeff Fisher has a "toxic" relationship with GM Les Snead.

The Rams extended both Fisher and Snead despite the ongoing rift. According to Breer, the problems have "been an open secret" in league circles, with some in the organization nicknaming it "Rams Junior High." It's just the latest from one of the most dysfunctional organizations in the league. Despite their new contracts, the Rams haven’t given any assurances to Fisher and Snead beyond this season.

Bucs OC Todd Monken indicated Wednesday that he is not pleased with the current state of Tampa Bay's running game.

"We've just got to do it better," said Monken while stating Jacquizz Rodgers is headed for an expanded role. "We've got to do a better job on the perimeter blocking. We've got to do a better job up front, a better job seeing the holes." The statement "a better job seeing the holes" indicates Monken believes the Bucs have been leaving yards on the field. Doug Martin is averaging 2.85 yards per carry since returning from his hamstring injury, and hasn't cleared 3.8 yards per carry in any of his six appearances this year.
