Broncos signed California RB C.J. Anderson.

Anderson (5-foot-8 1/8, 224) rushed 126 times for 790 yards (6.27 YPC) and four touchdowns in 2012, sharing time with smallish fellow senior Isi Sofele. Anderson only caught 22 passes in his college career. With a 4.60 forty time and 1.57 ten-yard split, Anderson lacks ideal long speed but has short-area burst and runs hard between the tackles. The Broncos now have nine running backs under contract.

Coach Lovie Smith said Jameis Winston is the Bucs' starting quarterback.

This comes as no surprise whatsoever, but it's at least worth mentioning after Winston split first-team reps with Mike Glennon in the spring. Winston has been an angel off the field since being drafted No. 1 and picked up the offense in quick fashion on it. Strapped with Mike Evans, Vincent Jackson and Austin Seferian-Jenkins as his weapons, Winston has some appeal as a high-upside QB2.

Redskins signed OLB Junior Galette, formerly of the Saints, to a one-year contract.

Galette, 27, has been one of the league's top edge rushers the past two seasons, registering 22 sacks and a whopping 126 combined sacks, hits and hurries. The problem is he's a trainwreck off the field, having been accused of domestic violence in January before a video surfaced last month of him assaulting a man and woman in 2013. If he can avoid his knucklehead tendencies, Galette and OLB Ryan Kerrigan can be one of the top edge-rushing duos in the league. The Redskins' defense has sneaky streamer potential in 2015.

Matt Cassel received the first rep in team drills when the Bills opened training camp Friday.

Tyrod Taylor was second up, while E.J. Manuel and Matt Simms were Nos. 3 and 4. We wouldn't read much into this, as this figures to be a full-blown competition for much of the summer. Cassel received the bulk of the reps Friday, but didn't draw positive reviews from Bills beat writers. His spring struggles appear to have carried over. Taylor and Manuel will get plenty of work with the ones.

Isaiah Crowell received the first rep in team drills at Browns training camp Friday.

Terrance West received the first rep when the Browns opened camp Thursday. This is further confirmation that Cleveland will likely divvy up reps between Crowell, West and third-rounder Duke Johnson throughout camp until one separates from the pack. Crowell has the most talent as an inside runner but doesn't offer anything in the passing game and has experienced fumbling issues in the past. We still like Crowell at his eighth-round ADP.

NFL suspended Redskins CB Bashaud Breeland one game for violating the league's substance-abuse policy.

The suspension stems from Breeland's August 2014 citation for possession of marijuana on the campus of VCU. Breeland is expected to compete to start opposite Chris Culliver this season after going through an up-and-down rookie campaign. It's possible DeAngelo Hall could start Week 1 against the Dolphins and hold the job with Breeland coming in for sub-package snaps.

Seahawks signed QB Russell Wilson to a four-year, $87.6 million contract extension that includes $60 million guaranteed.

Wilson gets a $31 million signing bonus and is signed through 2019, his age-31 season. The deal is short compared to other quarterback contracts, but gives Wilson another potential bite at the free-agency apple when he's still theoretically in his prime as a quarterback. Wilson's $21.9 million annually in new money makes him the second-highest paid quarterback behind Aaron Rodgers ($22 million). There were whispers Wilson was aiming for a fully-guaranteed contract. He settled for 68.5 percent of it guaranteed, which is still better than any other quarterback. The Seahawks will now turn their attention to MLB Bobby Wagner.

Seahawks SS Kam Chancellor was a no-show for the start of training camp on Thursday.

Word spread Wednesday that Chancellor was considering a holdout, and it appears he's followed through. That being said, it doesn't become official until Chancellor skips Friday's practice. Chancellor is already one of the league's highest-paid safeties, but he must think the time is right to angle for a raise with FS Earl Thomas (shoulder) shaky for Week 1. ESPN's Jim Trotter has reported the 'Hawks have "no intentions" of giving in. Chancellor risks $30,000 a day in fines.

Broncos GM John Elway wants the running game to be Peyton Manning's "best friend" in 2015.

"Number one, we're going to have good balance on the offensive side," Elway insisted Thursday. "What I can say, late in my career, that was my best friend, the running game. And I think that running game will be Peyton's best friend also." With Manning's arm dying a slow death, the Broncos are going to ramp up the model they used down the stretch last season under run-oriented coach Gary Kubiak. Manning is still going to sling it, but you can comfortably take the under on the 613 attempts he's averaged the past three seasons. Manning could have a hard time living up to his current ADP of QB3.

Newsday reports the Jets "had no knowledge" of Sheldon Richardson's July 14 on resisting arrest and traffic charges before Thursday.

Already suspended for the season's first four games, it was an almost inconceivably-poor decision on Richardson's behalf not to inform the Jets of his arrest. Gang Green's backing of its player could be tepid, to put it mildly, for the foreseeable future. Richardson was "only" charged with resisting arrest and traffic violations, but his car also had a "very strong odor of marijuana" at the time of his arrest. He had a (legal) loaded gun. Richardson's current four-game ban is for violating the league's substance-abuse policy. It's safe to say he's going to miss more than four games this season.

Giants signed WR James Jones, formerly of the Raiders, to a one-year contract.

With Rueben Randle ineffective and Victor Cruz rehabbing, the G-Men are giving themselves veteran insurance behind superstar Odell Beckham. Jones is reuniting with OC Ben McAdoo, whom he played for in Green Bay from 2007-13. Jones appeared withered during his lone year in Oakland last season, but offers a red-zone threat from the slot. Jones averaged a pathetic 9.1 yards per catch last year, but it was partly a function of Oakland's pop-gun offense. Jones boasted a 13.9 mark before 2014. Realistically, he's competing for No. 4 or 5 duties.

FOX Sports' Mike Garafolo reports a "sizable gap" remains between Russell Wilson and the Seahawks ahead of Friday's artificial extension deadline.

Per Garafolo, "only significant concessions by one or both parties" will get a deal done. Garafolo reports the Seahawks have offered to make Wilson one of the three highest-paid quarterbacks in the league, and are willing to best Cam Newton's five-year, $103.8 million extension. That's not good enough for Wilson, who understands that historical precedent dictates he becomes the highest-paid player in the league, at least until Andrew Luck gets a new deal.
