Steelers RT Mike Adams suffered stab wounds resulting from an attempted carjacking Saturday morning.

Adams was stabbed in the stomach during an attempt to steal his truck by three assailants. The right tackle managed to escape without having any major organs hit, and is resting in the hospital. He came out of surgery this morning. GM Kevin Colbert has passed along word Adams will make a full recovery. Adams' agent, Eric Metz, said his client is expected to be out for six weeks, but will be ready for the start of training camp.

The Buffalo News' Vic Carucci reports walk-year QB Tyrod Taylor and the Bills reaching a long-term agreement before the season "is a possibility."

Carucci reports the two sides are talking "relatively frequently" and have "open lines of communication." This is a surprising development after Taylor appeared resigned to playing out the season without an extension earlier this month. Taylor is set to earn $3 million in the final year of his deal.

Jets could decide to move on from Geno Smith or 2015 fourth-rounder Bryce Petty after re-signing Ryan Fitzpatrick.

Even with Fitz back in the fold, the Jets have questions at quarterback. Second-round pick Christian Hackenberg is guaranteed a roster spot, but he is unlikely to be ready for a backup role this year. Smith could serve as the backup, but keeping him would require New York to either cut Petty after just one season or retain four quarterbacks, which would hurt the depth at another position. Ultimately, we expect Petty to be the odd man out.

Redskins coach Jay Gruden said the team would consider bringing in a veteran running back.

Gruden talked up the depth they already have, saying Chris Thompson "looked good" during the offseason and the team is "excited" about rookie Keith Marshall, but he acknowledged they could look to the free-agent market. Matt Jones is currently locked in as the starter, and now that Arian Foster has signed with the Dolphins, there are not any free agents of note who could come in and challenge his spot. Jones is shaping up as a workload RB2.

Redskins placed first-round WR Josh Doctson (Achilles') on the active/PUP.

Doctson can be activated at any time, and NFL Network's Ian Rapoport reports his stay on the PUP will be "very short." Still, it is another blow to his chances of earning a big role as a rookie. Washington also placed LB Perry Riley (foot), LG Shawn Lauvao (foot/ankle), WR Reggie Diggs (knee), and TE Derek Carrier (knee) on the PUP.

ESPN's Adam Schefter reports Chiefs unsigned franchise player Eric Berry is expected to skip most of the preseason.

Because Berry has yet to sign his one-year, $10.8 million tender, he could theoretically skip all of camp and the preseason, sign the tag right before Week 1, and collect his full 2016 salary. The Chiefs were never even close to signing Berry long term ahead of the July 15 deadline. The Chiefs are also expected to open the season without franchise pass rusher Justin Houston (ACL).

Citing "information gathered," Profootballtalk.com reports there's a "strong sense" in league circles that Le'Veon Bell is unlikely to win the appeal of his four-game suspension.

The popular theory as to Bell's defense is that he changed his cellphone number and therefore was not contacted by the NFL prior to a drug test. Bell thus missed the test and was hit with a four-game ban. That defense isn't going to fly because Bell needed to inform the NFL of the cellphone change, assuming there ever was one. There also have been reports Bell missed multiple drug tests, not just one. Fantasy owners should approach Bell as if he won't be available until Week 5. DeAngelo Williams should be Pittsburgh's workhorse back in Weeks 1-4.

Broncos coach Gary Kubiak acknowledged first-round pick Paxton Lynch struggled with "verbiage, huddle, those types of things" at spring practices.

Kubiak did say he's been "pleased" with Lynch early in camp, insisting he's shown "improvement." Kubiak later stated Mark Sanchez and Trevor Siemian would share first-team reps, with Lynch mainly quarterbacking the third team. Barring a big step forward in preseason games, Lynch appears likely to open the season as a healthy game-day scratch a la Carson Wentz in Philadelphia.

Broncos GM John Elway reiterated that the team's quarterback position is "going to be wide open."

Elway agreed with coach Gary Kubiak that none of the Broncos' quarterbacks did enough in the spring to separate from the pack. Kubiak later said he is "interested" to see how Mark Sanchez and Trevor Siemian "look" in team drills, and revealed that they will "split" first-team reps at the beginning of camp. Kubiak conceded rookie Paxton Lynch struggled with "verbiage, huddle, those types of things" at OTAs and minicamp. It's looking more and more likely that the Broncos' quarterback battle will come down to Sanchez and Siemian.

Jets signed QB Ryan Fitzpatrick to a one-year, $12 million contract.

The deal is fully guaranteed. Fitzpatrick can make another $3 million in incentives "based on team performance." The Jets and Fitzpatrick played hardball all offseason before ultimately agreeing to a deal on the first day of camp. The Jets were always Fitzpatrick's only realistic destination. His return locks in Brandon Marshall and Eric Decker as high-floor fantasy picks, whereas they may have been more volatile with Geno Smith under center. Fitzpatrick's salary puts him at the low end of NFL starters, but he'll have a chance for an extension if he repeats his 2015 success. Fitzpatrick is best viewed as a QB2 in fantasy leagues who should be useful to stream against weak defenses.

Saints signed WR Hakeem Nicks to a one-year contract.

He's taking Vincent Brown's (calf, I.R.) spot on the 90-man roster. Nicks played in six games with the Giants last year, but was a non-factor. Despite only entering his age-28 season, it's a surprise any team was willing to give him a shot. Nicks will compete for the Saints' No. 5 receiver job.

Mike Wallace failed the conditioning test to open Ravens' training camp.

He'll get another chance to pass it on Thursday. But until Wallace does pass, he won't be able to practice and could open camp on the active/NFI list. All in all, it's not a huge deal for a soon-to-be 30-year-old veteran, but hints Wallace may have developed some laziness during the summer break.
