Free agent FB Vonta Leach told Sirius XM Radio on Monday that he's in no rush to sign with a team.

A Friday report from ESPN claimed Leach would sign "early (this) week," but that may not happen. "We’re keeping all our options open," said Leach, 31. "There’s really not a rush for anything right now because you can’t do nothing on the football field. As long as we’re in somebody’s camp, I’ll be all right." Leach has drawn interest from the Texans, Dolphins, Giants, and Ravens.

ESPN's Chris Mortensen reports Vick Ballard suffered a torn Achilles during Friday's training camp practice.

It's terrible news for Ballard, who is now looking at another lost season after missing the majority of 2013 to ACL surgery. Ballard was carted off the field Friday, and is currently undergoing an MRI. A limited athlete prior to his injuries, it's questionable whether Ballard will ever be able to make it back. The Colts will move forward with Trent Richardson and Ahmad Bradshaw as their top two running backs. Dan Herron and Chris Rainey will compete for the No. 3 role.

Coach Bruce Arians referred to Andre Ellington as a "bellcow in our offense" as the Cardinals began training camp on Friday.

Arians also confirmed Ellington added offseason weight, believed to be as much as ten pounds. Arians seems adamant about Ellington's capability of handling a spiked workload, though we still wouldn't rule out the possibility of more work than expected for either Stepfan Taylor or Jonathan Dwyer, particularly if Ellington struggles early. We don't see Ellington as a 300-carry back.

Buccaneers released OG Carl Nicks.

After signing him to a five-year, "47.5 million" deal in 2012, the Bucs wound up paying Nicks $25 million for nine games played. Per FOX Sports' Jay Glazer, the sides reached an "amicable settlement," which best translates as an injury settlement. Nicks is dealing with a career-threatening toe injury. Still only 29 years old, his NFL future is in serious doubt, as ESPN's Adam Schefter reported Friday Nicks has decided to "step away from the game," though he has not yet formally retired. Nicks was owed a $7 million base salary. The Bucs now have the weakest depth chart at offensive guard in football, with Oniel Cousins, Patrick Omameh, Jamon Meredith, and rookie Kadeem Edwards competing for two starting spots. It's a major concern for the efficiency of their running game.

Appearing on NFL Insiders Friday, ESPN's Michael DiRocco stated the Jaguars will aim for 20-25 touches per game for Toby Gerhart.

"They want him to be the workhorse back ... get 20-25 touches," DiRocco stated. DiRocco confirmed Gerhart will be involved in both the pass and run games as a true three-down back. Gerhart's ADP is currently in the late third round.

Sources tell the Cleveland Plain Dealer the Browns have been "alarmed" by the off-field actions of Johnny Manziel since trading up to select him with the 22nd overall pick in May's draft.

The Plain Dealer reports the team was particularly bothered by a picture that surfaced of Manziel rolling a $20 bill in a bar bathroom, suggestive of someone preparing to use snort cocaine. "Some in the organization feel he's lost ground in the quarterback competition heading into camp," adds beat reporter Mary Kay Cabot. Manziel reportedly "regressed in practice" this spring, and team brass believes it resulted from "not enough dedication to the playbook." Sources also told Cabot the Browns "have been stunned by his non-stop antics" off the field. All signs continue to point to Brian Hoyer starting Week 1 against the Steelers.

According to ESPN's Bob Holtzman, the "feeling in the locker room" is the Browns will start Brian Hoyer in Week 1.

Holtzman expects coach Mike Pettine to make the announcement "well before" the third preseason game, which is when camp battles are usually decided. In other words, the Browns may have already internally chosen Hoyer over Johnny Manziel. "We're all expecting Hoyer to start," one player told Holtzman. There were murmurs after the draft that the coaching staff didn't want Manziel, and that he was essentially handpicked by owner Jimmy Haslam. Pettine suggested in an ESPN Cleveland interview earlier this week that Manziel could spend his rookie season as a "package quarterback," similar to how Colin Kaepernick opened his career in San Francisco, and how Donovan McNabb did in Philadelphia.

Coach Ken Whisenhunt said Friday the Titans are still in the process of determining rookie Bishop Sankey's role.

Whiz called Sankey a player "we've got to find out about" in terms of his ability to contribute and workload. Sankey's college track record suggests he can indeed handle lots of carries and be a contributor in the pass game, although that doesn't always result in high-volume NFL success. May pro evaluators viewed Sankey as a change-of-pace type coming out of Washington. In Tennessee, he'll try to separate himself from Dexter McCluster and banged-up Shonn Greene.

Cardinals GM Steve Keim estimated in a Thursday radio interview that Andre Ellington "appeared to add 8-10 pounds" in the offseason.

Ellington's 2013 Combine weigh-in was 5'9/199, so he presumably now stands in at 5-foot-9 and 207-209 pounds. The hope is that Ellington's weight gain doesn't sap burst, as it appeared to do with fellow smaller backs Felix Jones, Steve Slaton, and Ray Rice in recent years. Adrian Peterson, Ryan Mathews, Trent Richardson, and Bernard Pierce are other running backs who gained weight in recent offseasons, and later regretted it. Ellington bulked up in anticipation of a large workload spike. His current ADP is the mid-third round.

Ravens signed suspended S Will Hill, formerly of the Giants.

GM Ozzie Newsome may be getting a steal here. Hill, 24, was one of the better safeties in the league last season, racking up 77 tackles, two interceptions, and two forced fumbles as a ten-game starter. However, he was slapped with a six-game suspension for violating the substance-abuse policy. It's his third suspension since entering the league. Hill will be eligible to return in Week 7. He should then push Darian Stewart for the starting free safety job.

Andre Johnson reported to training camp on Friday.

We can all breathe. Johnson was in Houston talking with Texans brass earlier this week, leading many to believe he would report to camp in time for Saturday's first practice. He did just that. Johnson's not going anywhere this year, and will be suiting up for the Texans and catching passes from Ryan Fitzpatrick. He should still dominate targets, but Johnson's YPR average may take a blow. Even at 33, Johnson is still one of the premier receivers in football.

ESPN Dallas reports the Cowboys and walk-year WR Dez Bryant have had "several" contract discussions, but are "not close" to a long-term agreement.

According to reporter Tim MacMahon, Bryant believes he's "earned the right to be among the highest-paid receivers in the league," but understands he'll likely have to wait. "I feel like as long as I take care of business on that field, the rest will be taken care of," Bryant said Thursday. Making $1.78 million in the final year of his rookie contract, Bryant is one of the biggest bargains in the league. The Cowboys' salary-cap disaster will surely make any long-term talks complex.
