NFL.com's Albert Breer reports the Cowboys have yet to engage in long-term talks with contract-year MLB Sean Lee.

Both DallasCowboys.com and ESPN Dallas are on record as expecting talks to begin "soon." A 2010 second-rounder, Lee has flashed major upside, but has also had trouble staying healthy. His durability concerns date back to college. Owner Jerry Jones has resisted overpaying LE Anthony Spencer, but may not be able to help himself with Lee, who is two years Spencer's junior.

Cowboys waived DE Michael Sam from the practice squad.

Sam had been with the Cowboys' taxi squad since before Week 1, but never earned a promotion to the 53-man roster. The NFL's first-openly gay player will now search for more practice-squad work. Sam notched three sacks in four preseason games, but his size (6-foot-2, 261 pounds) and one dimensional pass-rushing repertoire are holding him back.

Panthers released DB Charles Godfrey.

OG Chris Scott was promoted from the practice squad in a corresponding roster move. The Panthers' No. 3 safety and No. 4 cornerback, Godfrey is taking the fall for the horrid play of Carolina's secondary. A seven-year veteran, Godfrey missed 14 games in 2013 with a torn Achilles' tendon. The injury apparently took with it a good deal of Godfrey's effectiveness, as he had been getting smoked both at safety and in the slot. A month shy of his 29th birthday, Godfrey will search for reserve work.

Ray Rice's appeal of his indefinite suspension has been set for November 5-6.

CBS' Jason La Canfora reported Sunday that Rice is viewed as having an "exceedingly strong" case, and could be reinstated by mid-November. Rice maintains that he didn't lie about his domestic-violence arrest in his initial interview with commissioner Roger Goodell, and believes he shouldn't have been subject to more than a six-game ban. Rice should have resolution in little more than two weeks.

Jets signed WR Jeremy Kerley to a four-year, $16 million extension through 2018.

The deal includes $5.4 million guaranteed. It's a lot of money for a run-of-the-mill slot man. The timing is odd, as the Jets just acquired Percy Harvin, and Kerley is mired in an underwhelming season. Kerley was heading into the final year of his rookie contract, however. The deal almost certainly doesn't include any guaranteed money beyond 2015. The Jets now have each of Kerley, Harvin and Eric Decker signed through 2018. Gang Green is placing a premium on wideout after getting caught short at the position in 2013.

Bills placed RB C.J. Spiller (broken collarbone) on injured reserve/designated to return.

Spiller can resume practicing in six weeks, but won't be eligible for game action until Week 16. There's obviously a (strong?) chance the Bills are already eliminated from playoff contention by then, but they were running out of time to use their I.R./return spot. There's really no downside to stashing Spiller in the hope that he can return to a team that will be in the thick of the playoff race with two weeks to go. Spiller remains safely droppable in all re-draft leagues.

Bills signed RB Phillip Tanner.

With C.J. Spiller and Fred Jackson both injured, the Bills need a caddie behind Bryce Brown and Anthony Dixon. A fourth-year undrafted free agent who spent 2011-13 in Dallas, Tanner has averaged 2.7 yards on 56 career carries. Even in the deepest of leagues, Tanner is a pure desperation add with almost no shot at paying off.

Darren Sproles (knee) is practicing Tuesday.

Sproles is ahead of schedule as he comes off a sprained MCL. However, he's not expected to participate fully in this light Tuesday session and remains questionable for Sunday's game at Arizona. Sproles was originally expected to miss 1-2 games. Of course, fantasy owners should note he is averaging just 5.5 touches per game in his last four outings anyway.

Speaking Tuesday morning, A.J. Green (toe) said his Week 8 status is "still up in the air."

On Sunday, Green was overheard telling a teammate he's going to play in Week 8. On Monday, coach Marvin Lewis said the star receiver has made tremendous strides. But Green still needs to get through a full week of practice and figure out how to manage pain. "It's probably not gonna be 100 percent, but I hope it's just manageable," Green said. "I can get through the season and be fine and still play at a high level." We'll consider him day to day for now.

A source tells ABC6 in Indy that Reggie Wayne (elbow) could miss 1-2 games.

Wayne landed awkwardly on his left arm early in Sunday's win over the Bengals. He hardly missed any snaps, but did have two uncharacteristic drops later on. The injury sounds like some kind of minor sprain that the Colts might exercise caution with. Hakeem Nicks projects to slide into an every-down role opposite T.Y. Hilton, but Donte Moncrief has been closing the gap there lately. Nicks would be a desperation fantasy WR4 despite the opportunity.

Reggie Bush (ankle) said he will play in Sunday's game against the Falcons in London.

Bush barely played in the second half of the Week 7 win over the Saints because his ankle was bothering him. He admits that he's still not 100 percent, but insists he now feels "fine." The Lions could use Bush on only a limited package of plays, especially if they get a big lead on the hapless Falcons. Joique Bell will be the far superior fantasy play.

Terrance West was benched after failing to pick up a first down on a pair of second-quarter carries in Sunday's loss at Jacksonville.

West was actually playing ahead of Isaiah Crowell to open the game. He had room to run in both critical short-yardage situations, but tried to do too much. "I missed it," he said. "Wish I could get it back. ... I know I've got limited reps. So I know when I'm in a game, I'm trying to get a big play." On Monday, coach Mike Pettine lamented trying to get three running backs into the rotations. We wouldn't be surprised if West goes back to healthy scratch status this week, leaving Crowell to pick up all the work behind Ben Tate against the Raiders.
