NFL suspended Vikings G/T DeMarcus Love four games for violating the league's policy on performance-enhancing drugs.

Love, a 2011 sixth-round pick out of Arkansas, has never appeared in a regular season game, and his 2012 season was lost due to a torn pectoral. The Vikings don't have a ton of offensive line depth, but Love's spot is in jeopardy.

ESPN's Ed Werder stated on NFL Insiders Thursday that the Texans hope to trade down from No. 1 overall, and the Falcons are their "most likely partner."

CBS Sports' Jason La Canfora chimed in on Twitter, reporting "there are no shortage of execs" around the NFL who believe the Texans' "best odds" of moving down is "with Atlanta to get (Jadeveon) Clowney." Falcons GM Thomas Dimitroff is working with 10 draft picks, including six selections in the top 150, and has a history of trading up. Where there is smoke there is often fire. And the smoke is thickening on the Falcons-Texans trade possibility.

ESPN's Ed Werder reported on NFL Insiders Thursday that the Buccaneers "would strongly consider" drafting Texas A&M QB Johnny Manziel if he's available at the No. 7 overall pick.

Per Werder, new OC Jeff Tedford hopes to incorporate "read-option elements" into Tampa Bay's offense, and there is a feeling inside the Buccaneers' building that Manziel has "rare" tools. It's entirely possible the Bucs are leaking this rumor in order to inject life into a quarterback class that has seemingly been "falling" since the Combine. In that scenario, a quarterback going in the top six would increase Tampa's chances of landing a player it is truly targeting at No. 7. We would ultimately bet against Manziel going to the Bucs, who only have six picks in May's draft, and needs to address elsewhere.

Colts TE Dwayne Allen (hip surgery) said he's been cleared to participate in everything.

Allen is running around at this week's offseason workouts, catching some passes with no restrictions. It confirms Allen's proclamations from a month ago that his hip is back to "110 percent." Allen has the skill set to be an all-around beast and a major asset in the passing game -- especially if tight end-friendly special assistant Rob Chudzinski gains influence over OC Pep Hamilton.

The 2014 NFL season will open on Thursday, September 4 with the Packers at the Seahawks.

The defending Super Bowl champs host Aaron Rodgers and the team they beat on the famous "Fail Mary" play from 2012. NBC's Sunday Night Football opener is equally as intriguing as Andrew Luck travels to Denver to face Peyton Manning and the Broncos. The opening Monday Night will be a doubleheader: Giants at Lions and Chargers at Cardinals. Other highlights include a Seahawks/Broncos Super Bowl rematch in Week 3 and Seahawks/49ers on Thanksgiving night.

Cardinals ILB Daryl Washington has been sentenced to one year of probation for aggravated assault.

Washington was accused of choking the mother of his daughter, causing her to fall and break a collarbone. He pleaded guilty and now that the case has been closed, commissioner Roger Goodell can step in with discipline via the league's Personal Conduct Policy. We fully expect him to do so, likely with a multi-game ban. The Cardinals played without Washington for the first four games of last season due to a substance-abuse policy suspension, going 2-2. They went 8-4 after getting their dynamic, difference-making inside 'backer on the field.

CBS Sports' Jason La Canfora reports the Seahawks and LCB Richard Sherman "have made considerable progress" on a long-term deal that will make Sherman the highest-paid corner in the NFL.

The sides are "hopeful" the deal will be completed by the draft, and it's expected to be worth north of $13 million annually. Darrelle Revis is currently the top-paid corner in the league at $12 million for 2014. Aqib Talib sets the bar in terms of guaranteed money with $26 million. Sherman should shatter that. The 2011 fifth-rounder just turned 26 last month and is entering the final year of his deal.

The New York Daily News reports FS Will Hill is likely "done" with the Giants after failing another drug test.

Hill is facing a lengthy suspension, one that could cost him 6-8 games or an entire calendar year. It'll be Hill's third suspension in as many seasons, though he does plan to appeal. Whether he wins that appeal or not isn't expected to matter in terms of saving his job with the Giants. The team is reportedly "livid" at Hill's continued drug issues. He was PFF's No. 2 overall safety in 2013.

Giants FS Will Hill is facing another suspension for violating the league's drug policy.

Hill has been suspended in each of his first two seasons, one for violating the PED policy and the other for illegal substances. The troubled former Florida Gator has reportedly failed another drug test and could be facing a yearlong ban. Hill has admitted in the past that he enjoys smoking marijuana. He has gobs of talent but may not be in the league much longer if he continues to blaze up.

Steelers exercised DE Cameron Heyward's fifth-year club option for 2015.

Heyward, the 31st overall pick in 2011, became a full-time starter last season and played on 845 defensive snaps. He's now under team control for a little over $8 million through the next two seasons. Heyward has yet to miss an NFL game and is coming off a 59-tackle, five-sack season as a 13-game starter. He's above average as both a pass rusher and run stopper in Pittsburgh's 3-4.

Seahawks acquired QB Terrelle Pryor from the Raiders for a seventh-round draft pick.

The 49ers were also trying to acquire Pryor. GM Reggie McKenzie did well to get something after acknowledging Pryor wasn't going to be on the team. With Pryor under contract for a meager $705,000 in 2014, he wasn't going to make it to Seattle on waivers, so they had to trade for him if they wanted him. If Pryor is going to stick in Seattle, he's going to have to be kept as the No. 3 quarterback. Tarvaris Jackson is locked in as Russell Wilson's top backup on a fully guaranteed deal. Pryor will compete with B.J. Daniels for No. 3 duties.

Dolphins second-year CB Jamar Taylor told the Idaho Statesman that he considered quitting football during his disappointing rookie season.

Last year's 54th overall pick, Taylor was part of a Jeff Ireland draft class that provided the team with next to nothing in 2013. Taylor only got on the field for 45 defensive snaps. "It was to the point last year I thought I was done playing football," he said. "I didn’t want to play anymore. I was out of it. Thank God for my girlfriend, my family, my pastors and God — because I made it through and kept working. I’m really looking forward to this year."
