A source tells ESPN that Malcom Floyd (knee) won't return until Week 1 at the earliest.

A Monday night MRI brought good news as Floyd avoided a ligament tear. But he's not out of the woods yet as a severe sprain could sideline him for a month or more. It's looking more and more like the Chargers are going to be forced to roll with Vincent Brown, rookie Keenan Allen and slot man Eddie Royal as their top-three wideouts come Week 1. They lost difference-maker Danario Alexander to an ACL tear last week. With a declining Philip Rivers, a leaky offensive line and a lack of weapons, this Chargers' passing game has the potential to be very bad.

Steelers signed LT Alejandro Villanueva to a four-year contract.

The Redskins insist Jordan Reed's big toe injury is not serious.

Reed's toe has apparently been bothering him for a "couple" of weeks, but coach Jay Gruden expects him to be sidelined "only a week or so." Toe injuries can be extremely tricky to recover from. It's possible the Redskins exercise the utmost of caution and hold Reed out through the first few preseason games, if not the entire exhibition slate.

Rams GM Les Snead is uncertain if DT Aaron Donald will report to training camp or hold out.

Snead took a conciliatory tone, saying if Donald held out it's something the Rams would "(have) to respect." He added it's a "complicated situation," and that the sides are "working toward finding a solution." Donald is under team control for two more years, but the fifth-year team option is guaranteed for injury only in 2018. One of the league's three best defensive players, Donald isn't going to wait any longer to get paid. Donald turned 26 in May.

Speaking Thursday, Dolphins owner Stephen Ross said an extension for contract-year WR Jarvis Landry isn't "mandatory."

Ross went on to mention the franchise tag as an option next offseason. It's become increasingly clear the Dolphins have little appetite to extend Landry unless it's on exceedingly team-friendly terms. The franchise tag is also unrealistic for a 5-foot-11 slot receiver. Coach Adam Gase seems to be telling Dolphins brass he doesn't need Landry beyond this season.

Raiders released RB Taiwan Jones.

It's astounding Jones lasted as long as he did in Oakland. Yo-yoing between cornerback and running back, Jones was a core special teamer. He was grossly overpaid for many of his six years in Oakland. The speed demon turned 29 on Wednesday.

The Miami Herald reports DeVante Parker "(blew) up" the first day of Dolphins training camp.

"I think he was looking to not ease into camp," coach Adam Gase said afterward. "When I saw him (Wednesday) night, I could tell he was ready to get after it." Parker was an offseason puff piece fixture, perhaps setting a record. Both the Dolphins and media alike have been hyping his improvement since the first pad-less practice. According to Fantasy Football Calculator's ADP, Parker is currently the No. 92 player off the board.

Titans signed OLB Erik Walden to a one-year contract.

Walden is coming off a career-high 11 sacks with the Colts, but struggled to generate interest in free agency. Going on 32, Walden drew poor 2016 marks from Pro Football Focus despite his quarterback takedown total. The Titans tied for sixth in sacks last season with 40. Walden will compete for a spot as a rotational rusher behind Derrick Morgan and Brian Orakpo.

Bears OLB Pernell McPhee (PUP) is dealing with a right knee issue after his left knee troubled him for most of 2016.

Coach John Fox said an "irregularity" was detected during McPhee's camp physical, and that he didn't even attempt the conditioning test. This being the Bears, they haven't publicly placed a timeline on his return. McPhee has been plagued by knee issues since signing with the Bears in 2015. He played just 273 snaps last season.

Speaking Thursday, Cam Newton said he took his down 2016 personally, and that this season is "not just another year."

"I can't let that happen again. Ever," Newton said. "I just want to get my swag back." Newton admitted the experience was "humbling." Newton said he locked in earlier than usual in the offseason, and that it's one of the reasons he reported to camp lighter. He also said he has no plans to stop running. "That's my edge. You going to expect a lion not to roar?" Newton's attitude is in the right place. Now he needs to clean up his accuracy, especially in the short-passing game, which figures to be a greater emphasis this year.

Jordan Matthews (knee) is on the practice field Thursday.

Aside from a Wednesday report saying his injury may be more serious than tendinitis, there has not really been any concern around Matthews' injury despite it forcing him to miss most of the offseason program. He is expected to be limited early in camp, but coach Doug Pederson has said he is not worried about the issue stretching into the season.

Teddy Bridgewater (knee) said he definitely will play again.

When asked if any doctor told him there was a chance he would not play again, Bridgewater replied, "Not at all." The quarterback said he is "taking it one day at a time" and not looking "too far down the road," but everything this offseason has indicated he will return at some point. Still, it will not be a surprise if is stashed on the reserve/PUP to start the season.
