Danny Amendola's injury is believed to be to his ankle or foot.

Amendola didn't travel to Detroit for Thursday's preseason game, and the Pats have maintained their usual radio silence on his status. A source told ESPN Boston earlier in the week that Amendola's injury wasn't cause for major concern, and reporter Mike Reiss is under the impression that remains the case. Among the most injury-prone players in the league, Amendola is a boom-or-bust WR2 as he slides into Wes Welker's old role.

WEEI’s Ryan Hannable believes Julian Edelman’s work early in camp suggests he is close to returning.

Edelman was spotted running routes off to the side on Thursday, and he was seen running hills on Friday. Hannable does not think Edelman would be participating in either activity if he was not close to getting back on the field. Danny Amendola (knee/ankle) was also seen working with Edelman, perhaps indicating he is close to a return as well.

Patriots G Jonathan Cooper was carted off the practice field Saturday with a right foot injury.

NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport reports he is dealing with a "plantar fascia issue." Acquired in the Chandler Jones trade this offseason, the former first-round pick was hoping to get his career back on track with the Patriots after injuries played a role in his struggles with the Cardinals. He was working with the first team at right guard prior to the injury.

Dolphins coach Adam Gase said DE Dion Jordan is in "step one of like 500" in his return to the NFL.

Gase added Jordan was in the building on Saturday, but he is not sure when the former first-round pick will begin practicing. Jordan was conditionally reinstated earlier this week, but he will have to meet certain requirements to be allowed to play Week 1. With the Dolphins apparently set to pay his $1.69 million roster bonus, Jordan should be on the final roster if he stays out of trouble.

Ronnie Hillman admitted he is behind "the eight ball" in the Broncos’ running back competition.

With C.J. Anderson locked in as the starter and fourth-rounder Devontae Booker guaranteed a roster spot, Hillman needs to beat out Juwan Thompson and Kapri Bibbs for a roster spot. Considering Thompson can also play fullback and is a standout on special teams, Hillman is facing an uphill climb. At this point, it would be slightly surprising if he made the final roster.

NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport reports Seahawks DE Michael Bennett "is in town" for the start of training camp.

The implication presumably being Bennett will report on time to camp. Bennett has made noise about his contract each of the last two offseasons, but he has yet to make good on his threats of a holdout. Set to earn "just" $12.5 million over the final two years of his deal, the Seahawks have hinted they are willing to work with Bennett. Getting into training camp on time could only help that process.

ESPN Texans reporter Tania Ganguli reports DeAndre Hopkins is upset with his contract and has decided to hold out of training camp.

Hopkins is understandably upset with the $9.36 million he is scheduled to make over the next two seasons, but Ganguli reports the Texans "aren’t negotiating." The fact that Hopkins decided to hold out despite the $40,000 fine for each day missed suggests this situation could drag on for quite some time. Easily the best player in the passing game, the Texans cannot afford to be without Hopkins for any time in the regular season. Already overvalued at his WR4 draft cost, Hopkins needs to be dropped down a few pegs.

Bears signed OLB Willie Young to a two-year extension through 2018.

Young had been entering the final year of his deal. The subject of trade rumors just last year, Young earned his extension with 5.5 sacks over the final seven games. The former Lion now has 16.5 sacks in two seasons with the Bears. He will turn 31 in September.

Aaron Rodgers is working to build chemistry with his young receivers, especially Jeff Janis.

"He’ll go over after his set of reps and talk through it with them, especially with Jeff," quarterbacks coach Alex Van Pelt said. "They’re getting a good relationship now, working together and talking about what they expect from each other. So that’s been very positive." Janis is an athletic freak who has produced whenever given the chance, but he has never earned Rodgers' trust. Despite the extra attention, Janis has reportedly struggled early in camp. He is competing with Davante Adams for the No. 3 job.

ESPN Ravens reporter Jamison Hensley issued a "fantasy alert" for fourth-round WR Chris Moore.

Hensley reports Moore has generated "some early buzz" with his showing during the first two practices at training camp. It was only two practices, however, and Steve Smith Sr., Breshad Perriman, and Mike Wallace were not on the field. That said, it is possible two of those three are not ready for Week 1, and the Ravens do not have much behind Wallace and Kamar Aiken. A great deep threat in college, Moore could add an explosive element to an offense in desperate need of one if given the chance.

Raiders signed GM Reggie McKenzie to a four-year extension through 2020.

The laughing stock of the league when McKenzie took over in 2012 and through his first several years on the job, the Raiders are now legit playoff contenders with young stars at every important position and perhaps the best offensive line in the league. In the last three drafts alone, McKenzie has landed Derek Carr, Khalil Mack, Amari Cooper, Mario Edwards Jr., Clive Walford, and Gabe Jackson. He has absolutely transformed what was once the worst franchise in the league, making this extension more than deserved.

Bills GM Doug Whaley said the "lines of communication are open" between the team and walk-year QB Tyrod Taylor.

Whaley said the same thing about CB Stephon Gilmore, but a deal for Taylor seems more realistic after The Buffalo News' Vic Carucci reported it was possible the two sides reached a deal before the season. "It's free-flowing," Whaley said of the negotiations with Taylor. "Hopefully we'll get a resolution soon. Not sure though." If he can put another solid season together, Taylor will be a candidate for the franchise tag next spring if the two sides cannot work something out before then.
