49ers WR Marlon Moore caught three passes for 32 yards in Sunday night's preseason game against the Vikings.

It's time to start taking Moore seriously in re-draft leagues, not as a draft pick necessarily but putting him on the radar. He's started each of San Francisco's first three preseason games at "X" receiver, and Colin Kaepernick has the talent to elevate the performance of players around him. Through three preseason contests, Moore has four receptions for 44 yards, playing sparingly with the rest of San Francisco's first-team group.

Eagles waived DE Marcus Smith.

An expected move for months, the Eagles pull the plug before having to pay Smith a $594,000 roster bonus and save nearly $1.5 million. The Smith pick at No. 26 overall in 2014 by then-coach Chip Kelly was widely criticized from the start, and Smith answered by providing just four sacks in three seasons, failing to find a position. He should be able to get a second chance, somewhere where he won't have to live up to the billing of a first-round pick. Smith turned 25 in March.

Trevor Siemian will take the first snaps under center when the Broncos open training camp on Thursday.

Paxton Lynch will get the first reps on Friday in what will be a true rotation until coach Vance Joseph and OC Mike McCoy settle on a starter. It's the same pattern the two quarterbacks followed in the spring. Lynch had a strong finish to spring work, but Siemian was, by most accounts, the more consistent passer throughout.

Eagles released G/T Allen Barbre.

A coaches pet from the Chip Kelly regime, Barbre signed a new multi-year deal in June 2014 but fell out of favor under coach Doug Pederson. Barbre was given permission to seek a trade back in March but didn't find any takers. The release saves the Eagles $2.1 million against the cap. 33-year-old Barbre can play both guard spots and right tackle and has made 36 career starts. Isaac Seumalo opened Eagles camp as the starting left guard. Philly has plenty of line depth.

Vikins signed RE Everson Griffen to a four-year, $58 million extension through 2022.

The deal contains $34 million guaranteed, and the $14.5 million per-year average in new money makes Griffen the third-highest-paid 4-3 end behind only Giants teammates Olivier Vernon and Jason Pierre-Paul. Griffen isn't a household name to the casual fan, but he's been wrecking quarterbacks ever since taking over as a full-time starter in 2014. Griffen is now under contract through his age-35 season.

Julio Jones (foot) has been medically cleared for training camp.

As expected. Jones underwent a very minor procedure to remove a bunion from his foot in March. He sat out OTAs and minicamp merely as a way to get more rest after a long season. Jones is ready to roll but will be eased back into team drills here in the first few practices. Jones is locked in as a first-round fantasy pick.

Myles Garrett (foot) is "ready to go" for the start of training camp.

The No. 1 overall pick had a scare toward the end of spring workouts when he suffered a lateral foot sprain, but it proved to be a minor deal. Garrett will probably be monitored a bit early in camp but will avoid a stint on the active/PUP list.

Coach Hue Jackson said Cody Kessler will take the first snaps under center when the Browns open training camp.

"He deserves a chance to walk out there first," Jackson said of Kessler. That's about all Kessler will be guaranteed in what should be one of the more interesting quarterback battles of the summer. Along with Kessler, newcomers Brock Osweiler and DeShone Kizer will also be in the mix. Osweiler and Kizer both reportedly had strong springs, while Kessler struggled with having passes batted down.

Dolphins C Mike Pouncey (hip) has been medically cleared for training camp.

Pouncey has battled a number of hip issues in his career and was sent to I.R. last Week 10 only to need another surgery. He's recovered nicely and appears to be ahead of schedule. Expect the Dolphins to continue to take it slow with their stud center, but he's fully expected to be out there in Week 1.

Tim Twentyman of the Lions' official website expects Theo Riddick to be even more involved in the red zone this season.

Anquan Boldin, now a free agent, was third in the NFL with 22 red-zone targets last season, so there is a massive piece of the pie to be accounted for in Detroit. While Eric Ebron figures to see an uptick in scoring-area looks, Riddick also stands to gain quite a bit after catching all five of his touchdowns in the red zone last year. Detroit's running back situation is a tough one to figure out, but finding the guy who has the best chance to score touchdowns is a great place to start. Riddick is one of OC Jim Bob Cooter's favorite weapons near the end zone.

Ty Montgomery worked with Rischad Whitfield, better known as the Footwork King, during the break between minicamp and training camp.

Whitfield has become one of the best trainers of NFL running backs in recent years and was given a large portion of the credit for Melvin Gordon's sophomore surge last season. "I hope it pays off for me, too," Montgomery said. With Whitfield, Montgomery did "a lot of speed-ladder drills, a lot of change-of-direction drills, a lot of read-and-reaction drills." Montgomery is also up to 223 pounds, but it's lean muscle in the chest and shoulders area in an effort to take more of a pounding as a runner. Montgomery has incredible fantasy upside, especially in PPR formats.

According to Les Bowen of the Philadelphia Inquirer, "there is talk around the locker room" that Jordan Matthews' (knee) issue is more serious than tendinitis.

"But there is talk elsewhere in the building that Matthews could have practiced more in the spring," Bowen writes, "that the real issue is his contract." All the Eagles have divulged on the situation is that they're limiting Matthews' reps in order to get him healthy in time for games. He missed most of the spring, and Matthews' name came up in trade rumors earlier in the offseason as he enters the final year of his contract. The Eagles have yet to approach Matthews about a new deal.
