Cardinals placed LG Jonathan Cooper on injured reserve with a fractured fibula, ending his season.

They're apparently not using I.R./designated for return. Cooper was the seventh overall pick in April's draft and was likely to be the Cardinals' best offensive lineman this year. Don't expect many running lanes in the desert this season for Rashard Mendenhall and rookie Stepfan Taylor.

Raiders GM Reggie McKenzie implied that the draft is the team's deadline for signing Marshawn Lynch.

"At some point, you would like to know," said McKenzie. "Prior to the draft is that point." Coach Jack Del Rio said "every indication" is that Lynch is "excited" to play for Raiders, but the sides still have a few hurdles to clear before a deal is reached. Once that happens, the Raiders and Seahawks will have to agree on compensation. Talks should pick up in the coming days now that Oakland has established a firm timeline for signing Lynch.

In a poll of 17 NFL executives done by the Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel, nine voted Utah OT Garett Bolles this year's No. 1 draft-eligible offensive lineman.

Wisconsin OT Ryan Ramczyk garnered five first-place votes, while Alabama OT Cam Robinson garnered two, and Western Kentucky G/C Forrest Lamp got one. Bolles played one year of Division-1 college football and turns 25 in May. Ramczyk also played only one year of D-1 ball and is recovering from hip surgery. Robinson is expected to convert to right tackle or guard. "It’s really going down," one AFC personnel man said regarding offensive line play around the league. "This year('s class) is really disappointing."

Texans GM Rick Smith said he doesn't feel pressure to draft a quarterback in the first round.

"I don't feel pressure," said Smith. "At some point, we're going to add a quarterback." Even if the Texans do select a quarterback early in the draft, there's no guarantee that he would start out of the gate. "It's difficult to play quarterback as a rookie in this league," said Smith. "It's rare that you get a guy to play at high level early, but it's possible." For what it's worth, Smith said the Texans are "comfortable" entering the year with Tom Savage as the starting quarterback.

CBS Sports' Jason La Canfora "continues to hear" that coach Hue Jackson and his staff is "all in" on Myles Garrett at No. 1, but the front office and owner Jimmy Haslam is leaning more toward Mitchell Trubisky.

The "owner badly wants a QB," according to La Canfora. Haslam was said to be the one who banged the table for Johnny Manziel a couple years back, and that obviously backfired terribly. Maybe Haslam should consider refraining from meddling in personnel decisions and try and let his staff turn around this franchise. However, it sounds like the front office is also in his corner on this one, wanting a potential franchise passer. Garrett is a legitimate game-changer, and the "football guys," as in the coaching staff, know it. EVP Sashi Brown spoke earlier this week and hinted the pick will either be Garrett or Trubisky.

Philly Voice's Jimmy Kempski thinks "it would make a lot of sense" for the Eagles to trade Jordan Matthews.

Kempski doesn't expect the Eagles to give Matthews an extension at any point, and he's entering the final year of his deal. If GM Howie Roseman is opposed to an extension, then he has two choices: trade Matthews for a potential Day 2 pick or let him play out his deal and possibly land a third-round compensatory pick for 2019. Matthews and newbies Alshon Jeffery and Torrey Smith are all essentially on one-year pacts, so Philly could overhaul the WR spot again in 2018.

Speaking in a Thursday radio interview, Seahawks GM John Schneider downplayed the chances of Richard Sherman getting traded.

"Right now, I don't think the odds are very good," Schneider said. "But if somebody comes cruising along and something happens, and we do something, it happens." Schneider is correct that a trade remains unlikely, but it's remarkable how openly the Seahawks continue to talk about dealing their star corner. We wouldn't rule anything out ahead of next week's draft.

The Super Bowl champion Patriots will host the Chiefs in the 2017 season's opening game on Thursday Sept. 7.

It's a matchup of two great teams, but lacks the punch of last year's Super Bowl rematch between the Broncos and Panthers. Speaking of Super Bowl rematches, the Patriots will host the Falcons in Week 7. That game will be played on Sunday Night Football. It's 141 days until we kick off the season with Alex Smith in primetime.

Tyler Lockett (broken leg) believes he'll be ready for training camp.

It's an extremely aggressive timeline for Lockett's devastating Christmas Eve injury. Coach Pete Carroll has previously identified Week 1 as the goal. Even if Lockett is ready for camp, he could be held out of the preseason.

The Raiders will play the Patriots on Nov. 19 in Mexico City.

The game is on a Sunday, and will kick off at 4:25PM ET. Last season, the Raiders' Mexico City trip was a Monday night game. Per NBC Sports Bay Area, the Raiders will also host the Cowboys for Sunday Night Football in Week 15.

Alabama ILB Reuben Foster failed his Combine drug test.

Foster's sample was diluted, which counts as a failed test. He's now in the league's substance-abuse program. Foster claims he failed the test because he was extremely ill and taking in an exceptional amount of fluids. This adds to a nightmare Combine for Foster, who was sent home after getting into an altercation with a hospital worker. Foster is recovering from shoulder surgery. Foster is an elite talent, but could fall to Day 2 because of his growing off-the-field concerns.
