Bills rookie WR Marquise Goodwin requires surgery on his broken hand, and is out indefinitely.

Goodwin's injury isn't expected to be season-ending, and coach Doug Marrone said he isn't considered a candidate for injured reserve/designated to return. It sounds like Goodwin will miss somewhere in the neighborhood of 4-6 weeks. The rookie deep threat will be returning to a situational role once he gets back on the field.

The Houston Chronicle reports J.J. Watt (back surgery) is "ahead of schedule."

Per reporter Aaron Wilson, there's "hope" Watt will do "some" work during OTAs. Noticeably thinner on the sideline during the playoffs, Watt had to shed weight to lessen the load on his surgically-repaired back. He's now in the early stages of bulking back up. Returning from back surgery — this is Watt's second — is rarely straightforward, but he's expected to be ready well ahead of Week 1.

Speaking at Monday's season-ending presser, Chiefs coach Andy Reid committed to Alex Smith as his 2017 quarterback.

"Do I still think we can win with Alex?," Reid asked rhetorically. "Yeah, we were right there." It's not exactly the most ringing endorsement, but due $13.3 million between salary and bonuses, Smith will almost certainly be back under center for a fifth season in Kansas City. Smith has made no progress as a Chief, stubbornly minding the store while trying to avoid mistakes at all costs. With Smith going on 33, the Chiefs at the very least need a plan-of-succession in mind.

Speaking Monday, Seahawks coach Pete Carroll revealed Richard Sherman played through a "significant" MCL injury in the second half of the season.

Carroll said the injury "weighed on" Sherman mentally. Carroll might have been trying to explain away a season that was solid, but not quite up to Sherman's recent standards. Sherman's knee never showed up on the injury report, so the boundary-pushing Seahawks could be hearing from the league. Two months shy of his 29th birthday, Sherman has played through a number of injuries in recent years, but never missed a game. He should have at least one more elite season left in the tank.

1010 XL Jacksonville's Hays Carlyon reports ex-49ers and Eagles coach is in Jacksonville on Monday, "presumably" interviewing for the Jaguars' offensive coordinator vacancy.

NFL.com's Ian Rapoport has since confirmed the news. ESPN's Adam Schefter reported over the weekend that Kelly had interviewed to replace Gus Bradley before the Jags settled on Doug Marrone. Perhaps the talk was more about if Kelly would be willing to swallow his pride and lead an offense. For his part, Kelly told FOX's Jay Glazer earlier this month he would indeed be open to coordinating work. Kelly has been adamant he wants to remain in the NFL, and not return to college.

Coach Bill O'Brien said it's "too early to know" if Brock Osweiler will be the Texans' starting quarterback in 2017.

The Texans handed Osweiler $37 million guaranteed last offseason, and he proceeded to be a total disaster and the main reason the Texans were held back from bigger and better things. His $16 million salary for 2017 is guaranteed, and Osweiler carries a $19 million cap hit. He would count $25 million against the cap if the Texans release or trade him. There just don't seem to be many other avenues for the Texans to travel unless they make a run at Tony Romo.

Coach Dan Quinn said Julio Jones (toe) will be "ready to rock" for the NFC Championship game against the Packers.

Jones re-injured his sprained toe in the Divisional Round win over the Seahawks, playing a season-low 58.3 percent of the snaps. But the Falcons have expressed zero concern about Jones' availability for next Sunday. Expect him to be limited in practice this week before playing next weekend.

ESPN's Adam Schefter reports the 49ers are "honing in on" Falcons OC Kyle Shanahan for their head-coaching vacancy.

With Josh McDaniels withdrawing his name from the search, it looks like Shanahan or bust for the Niners. Seahawks OL coach Tom Cable is the only other known candidate for the job. The 49ers have sat on their hands and dragged this search process out with the other five vacancies already filled. If they whiff on Shanahan, things could again be a total disaster in Santa Clara.

CBS Sports' Jason La Canfora reports Patriots OC Josh McDaniels is bowing out of consideration for the 49ers' head-coaching vacancy.

According to La Canfora, McDaniels is taking his name out of consideration for "personal" reasons, and it's "not a reflection" on the 49ers. It's probably a little bit of both. With New England advancing this deep into the playoffs, the San Francisco job is the only one left open. McDaniels is better off riding it out another year with Tom Brady and Co. and seeing what next offseason brings. Kyle Shanahan and Tom Cable are the other two known candidates linked to the 49ers.

Alex Smith completed 20-of-34 passes for 172 yards, one touchdown, and one interception in the Chiefs' 18-16, Divisional Round loss to the Steelers on Sunday.

The Chiefs scored the only two touchdowns of this game, but it still wasn't enough to overcome Steelers K Chris Boswell's six field goals. Smith and the Chiefs got the scoring started with a five-yard touchdown pass to Albert Wilson out of the wishbone formation on a play-action boot to the left. Predictably, Kansas City's offense went into a shell after the score and couldn't do much of anything before laboring for a fourth-quarter touchdown to bring the score to 18-16. On the ensuing two-point conversion, Smith hit Demetrius Harris to tie the game, but it was called back on a hold by LT Eric Fisher. They failed on the next attempt from the 12-yard line. Smith threw for a career-high 3,502 yards in 2016, but only threw 15 touchdowns to eight picks. He's not -- and never will be -- a fantasy asset.

Antonio Brown caught 6-of-11 targets for 108 yards in the Steelers' Divisional Round win over the Chiefs on Sunday.

Brown went into the half with a 5-101 line on nine targets. His lone second-half catch came on the Steelers' final pass of the game, converting a third-and-short late in the fourth quarter that allowed the Steelers to drain the clock and take home the two-point win. Brown's longest catch was a total mismatch with OLB Justin Houston trying to cover him one-on-one deep down the left sideline. Brown easily won the matchup and turned it into a 52-yard gain. Brown later had a potential 17-yard touchdown ripped out of his grasps in the end zone when Marcus Peters made a great play to strip it. Brown and the Steelers head to Foxboro next weekend for the AFC Championship game. Brown went 7-106-0 against the Patriots in Week 7.

Le'Veon Bell rushed 30 times for 170 yards in the Steelers' 18-16, Divisional Round win over the Chiefs.

Bell was the Steelers' main source of offense, though they weren't able to score a touchdown all night, settling instead for six Chris Boswell field goals to advance to the AFC Championship game. Bell showed his trademark patience in the backfield and had 101 rushing yards at halftime. He didn't do much in the fourth quarter with the Chiefs dominating time of possession on one of their two touchdown drives. Bell was also swallowed up on his two catches, totaling minus-four yards on five targets. Against New England in Week 7, Bell rushed 21 times for 81 yards and caught 10 balls for an additional 68 yards. He's a virtual lock to total 100 yards.
