Rob Housler (ankle) practiced fully Friday and is listed as probable for Week 3.

We can't pretend to know Housler's usage in Bruce Arians' offense because we've never seen him in it. Perhaps tight end-desperate fantasy owners should grab Housler, but we're not optimistic he'll pay many dividends. For the Cards, at least, he'll be an obvious upgrade over fill-in starter Jim Dray.

Colts coach Chuck Pagano said adding a young runner is "paramount."

Frank Gore remained reasonably effective last season, but he will turn 34 in May and is clearly trending downward. Indy did re-sign Robert Turbin earlier this month, but they need to look toward the future at the position. It will not be surprising if the Colts spend an early pick on a running back.

Eagles signed DE Chris Long, formerly of the Patriots, to a two-year contract.

NFL Network's Ian Rapoport reports he will make close to the $2.4 million he earned with the Patriots last season. The Eagles have plenty of talent along the defensive line, but Long is a solid addition both as a situational pass rusher and locker-room asset. 32 today, Long recorded four sacks during his one year in New England.

Ravens coach John Harbaugh said he would be interested in bringing back free agent Anquan Boldin.

"I do believe he can still play at the highest level," Harbaugh said. Boldin played for the Ravens from 2010-12 and would fill their need for a possession receiver. The veteran will return for his 15th season, but he is not expected to sign until closer to training camp. Boldin caught 67 passes for 584 yards (8.7 YPR) and eight scores with the Lions last season.

Ravens coach John Harbaugh said Terrance West is currently the No. 1 running back on the depth chart.

That could certainly change during the offseason, but it is a reminder West is likely to retain a role in Baltimore's backfield, especially with Kenneth Dixon suspended for the first four games. West rushed 193 times for 774 yards (4 YPC) and five touchdowns last season.

Cowboys signed Jason Witten to a four-year extension through 2021.

It is a shock both because EVP Stephen Jones said there were no plans to extend Witten exactly a month ago and the extension keeps him under contract through his age-39 season. The deal likely will lower his $12.262 million cap hit this year, however, and the length of the contract should keep his cap number down for the next several seasons. Witten should become the franchise leader in receiving yards this year.

Broncos coach Vance Joseph said Tony Romo "is a non-issue."

"We haven't had one meeting about Romo," Joseph added. Considering John Elway said the Broncos have no "intent" to pursue Romo even if he is released, it is pretty clear Denver wants to put this situation to bed. It looks like it is Texans or retirement for Romo at this point.

Dolphins coach Adam Gase said Ryan Tannehill (knee) has "no restrictions."

"As far as I know, he's been doing everything he can do," Gase added. "I'm expecting him to look pretty close to how he did when he got injured." This matches a February report from The Miami Herald which said Tannehill is "healed" and will be ready for the offseason program. Gase also said he has not been told Tannehill needs to change the way he plays or run less, which is great news for his fantasy value moving forward.

Jets coach Todd Bowles said there will be an open competition at quarterback.

Bowles said Josh McCown, Bryce Petty, and Christian Hackenberg will all get their chance to win the starting job. The coach also did not rule out the possibility of a rookie being added to the mix. McCown is the favorite to win any competition, but he has not been able to stay healthy the last several years. It is likely multiple quarterbacks start for the Jets in 2017.

WGN Radio's Adam Hoge reports there is a "strong belief" at the Annual League Meeting that free agent Jay Cutler will not play in 2017.

NFL Network's Ian Rapoport reported in February there is "no guarantee" Cutler plays in 2017, and it seems like NFL teams have been given that impression as well. This is surprising on the surface, but Cutler will be 34 in April and has been banged up the last several seasons. That said, he was scheduled to meet with the Jets before New York signed Josh McCown, so it is likely he is willing to play if given a real shot at a starting job. As of now, that shot does not seem to be forthcoming.

ESPN's Dan Graziano reports Colin Kaepernick is looking for a team which "offers him a chance to compete for a starting job."

Graziano adds Kap is looking for "something like $9 million to $10 million" per year. There are not many teams with starting jobs available, and that list grows even smaller when the 49ers, his former team, are removed from the equation. Perhaps he will get a look from the Browns or Texans once the Tony Romo and Jimmy Garoppolo sagas mercifully come to an end, but Kaepernick might need to lower his asking price and expectations to land a job.

Lions GM Bob Quinn said he thinks Adrian Peterson still has gas left in the tank.

Quinn did not say if the Lions were pursuing the future Hall of Famer, but it is an interesting comment considering he has talked about the need to improve the running game this offseason. Peterson has said he is interested in helping a team "win a championship." The Lions might not be at that level, but they should compete for a playoff spot in 2017.
