NFL Network's Ian Rapoport reports Tom Brady has been "calling and texting" free agents Brandon Lloyd and Deion Branch "gauging their availability."

We're assuming Brady is doing so on behalf of Patriots management. Per Rapsheet, Branch has told Brady he's "ready whenever," but that Lloyd wants to finish shooting his zombie movie before a potential return. In case you hadn't heard, Lloyd is starring in a direct-to-DVD affair with Daniel Baldwin called "After Effect." Lloyd likely has more left in the tank than Branch, but was a fading player last season and a locker-room lawyer. The fact that he's back on the Patriots' radar speaks to their lack of faith in their rookie wideouts.

ESPN's Jeremy Fowler believes the Steelers have "genuine" interest in Texas Tech QB Patrick Mahomes.

Fowler's specific word is "intrigue." The Steelers have admitted they must begin their search for Ben Roethlisberger's successor, but Fowler doesn't expect them to "force" a pick. Pittsburgh doesn't pick until No. 30 on Thursday. Mahomes will likely be gone before then.

"A source with knowledge of the dynamics" believes the Christian McCaffrey to the Panthers at No. 8 chatter is "likely a smokescreen."

Profootballtalk reports McCaffrey's "expected range" is 5-15. The Panthers have been strongly connected to running backs at No. 8, but there's been growing chatter McCaffrey could be gone by then. Basically, seven hours before the draft, no one has any idea what's going to happen. Buckle up.

CBS' Jason La Canfora believes Ohio State CB Gareon Conley could still come off the board in the first round.

La Canfora came to his conclusion after "the more phone calls I make and more teams I talk to." Conley has called the rape accusation against him "untrue, wrongful and malicious." Perhaps teams believe him after talking to him and examining the publicly-available evidence. Conley isn't set to talk with police until Monday. It's still an extremely volatile situation. A long slide remains a distinct possibility.

Clemson QB Deshaun Watson says it would be a "slap in the face" were UNC's Mitch Trubisky to be drafted ahead of him.

Watson believes his "championship résumé" separates him from his ACC rival. Watson accomplished more than Trubisky in college, but Trubisky is perceived to have more intriguing NFL tools. There's speculation that Trubisky could go No. 1 and Watson No. 4, but both scenarios seem a little far-fetched. Watson to the Jags at 4 might be more believable. GM Dave Caldwell could plausibly convince himself he's a quarterback short of a playoff roster.

NFL.com draft analyst Lance Zierlein reports it is unlikely Temple LB Haason Reddick "even makes it to pick No. 15."

This matches a report from colleague Daniel Jeremiah, who said Reddick is one of the "hottest names right now" in league circles. Zierlein expects Reddick to come off the board before Alabama LB Reuben Foster, who has both off-field and medical concerns. Rotoworld draft guru Josh Norris believes Reddick could go as high as No. 6 to the Jets.

Draft Analyst's Tony Pauline is now "a believer" in Florida State RB Dalvin Cook falling to the second round.

Prior to signing Marshawn Lynch, a source with the Raiders told Pauline they expect Cook to be available when they pick at No. 24, which means they expect him to be bypassed by the Bucs, who have been heavily linked. If that happens, it will not be surprising to see Cook slip all the way to the second day. NFL.com draft analyst Lance Zierlein has reported some teams have "concerns surrounding durability and character" as well as how poorly he tested at the Combine.

The Cleveland Plain Dealer's Mary Kay Cabot reports Texas A&M pass rusher Myles Garrett "is still the likely pick for the Browns at No. 1."

Cabot says the Browns are still attempting "to trade up into the top eight," suggesting they will take Garrett at No. 1 and hope to land UNC QB Mitchell Trubisky later in the draft. ESPN's Jeff Darlington adds the 49ers, who pick behind Cleveland, are "skeptical about Trubisky going to the Browns." With the draft finally here, we will know for sure soon enough.
Apr 27 - 10:47 AM

Bleacher Report's Jason Cole reports there is "growing chatter" the Jaguars will select Clemson QB Deshaun Watson with the No. 4 overall pick.

The general consensus around the draft community is none of the available quarterbacks are worth a pick in the top-five, but that is not enough to prevent a couple from coming off the board in the first four picks -- the Browns are rumored to be considering UNC QB Mitchell Trubisky at No. 1 overall. Of course, this could all just be bluster from teams hoping to goad one of the quarterback-needy organizations into a trade up. We will find out for sure tonight.
Apr 27 - 8:54 AM

Titans GM Jon Robinson said there is a "50/50" chance he will be able to trade down in the first round.

Sitting just ahead of the Jets, the Titans could be in a prime spot if the Browns decide to pass on UNC QB Mitchell Trubisky at No. 1 overall. Any team which covets Trubisky will want to jump New York to ensure they land him, and that gives Tennessee more leverage than some of the other teams looking to move down. The Titans are likely looking to recoup the second-round pick they traded away last year.
Apr 27 - 8:41 AM

ESPN's Adam Schefter reports UNC QB Mitchell Trubisky is "square in consideration" for the Browns with the No. 1 overall pick.

The Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel's Bob McGinn had Trubisky at No. 1 in his mock, NFL Network's Daniel Jeremiah wrote the uncertainty in this draft "starts at pick one," and Bleacher Report's Jason Cole reports two teams looking at quarterbacks believe Cleveland will either take Trubisky at No. 1 or trade up to grab him with the No. 2 or 3 picks. At this point, there is enough smoke to assume Cleveland really is considering Trubisky with the first pick regardless of if that is a smart move or not. If Trubisky does come off the board first, the 49ers will field an avalanche of calls from teams looking to move up to land Texas A&M pass rusher Myles Garrett.

Apr 27 - 8:25 AM

UNC QB Mitchell Trubisky is the No. 1 overall pick in Bob McGinn's final mock draft.

McGinn is longtime NFL reporter for the Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel who annually produces one of the most accurate mock drafts, as recorded by The Huddle Report. McGinn and Mike Mayock both have top-six mock scores over the past half decade among over 100 entrants. Both McGinn and Mayock have Trubisky landing with the Browns, although McGinn has Trubisky going No. 1 overall, and Myles Garrett going No. 2 to the 49ers. Mayock has the Browns taking Garrett at No. 1 and trading up for Trubisky at No. 5. Mock drafts are a lot of fun, yet incredibly unreliable. We'll find out what happens in real life tonight.
