Vernon Davis (hamstring) participated in Tuesday's practice.

Davis' participation level remains unclear, but it's the second straight day he's practiced. He was "limited" on Monday. Davis didn't practice at all last week before ultimately getting a "questionable" tag and sitting out against the Colts. The Niners desperately need Davis to suit up after presenting almost no offensive threat vs. Indy.

Seahawks hired ex-Colts QBs coach Brian Schottenheimer as offensive coordinator.

It was time for the Seahawks to try something new on offense. It was not time for them to hire Schottenheimer, who has overseen one ineffective offense after another at the NFL level. Some of Schottenheimer's struggles can be blamed on the defensive-minded coaches he coordinated for — namely, Rex Ryan and Jeff Fisher — but he's simply provided zero reason to believe he is someone who should be leading an NFL attack. Throwing out an injured and aging Brett Favre, Russell Wilson will be the best quarterback Schottenheimer has worked with. It's not a good development for Wilson, who has been tasked with carrying far too heavy of a load since Marshawn Lynch's decline and departure from Seattle.

Steelers re-signed CB Mike Hilton to a one-year, $555,000 contract.

The Steelers' slot corner, Hilton was an exclusive rights free agent. In other words, he could only become a free agent if the Steelers let him. Playing his first regular season snaps, the 2016 UDFA was an asset at nickel back this season, and should retain his job for 2018. He will be a restricted free agent in 2019.

Impending free agent Drew Brees says he has no plans to test the market, and that he hopes to re-sign with the Saints before the start of the new league year.

"I'm not in the mood to make anything secretive," Brees said. "It's the same way I felt two days ago. It's the same way I felt 12 years ago. That is that I'll be here as long as they'll have me, hopefully." Brees, who turned 39 on Monday, cannot be franchise tagged, giving him a little leverage even if he insists he doesn't want to test the market. Brees' main goal could be some guaranteed money for 2019.

Pro Football Talk's Mike Florio reports a group of the Steelers' limited partners want coach Mike Tomlin fired.

Tomlin has never had a losing season in 11 years with the Steelers while winning at least 10 games eight times, but that record has not prevented his name from popping up in rumors the last couple years. To be fair to the rabble-rousers, the Steelers have not been to the Super Bowl since 2010 and have made the Championship Game just once over that run, arguably an underachievement given the talent on the roster. Still, it remains unlikely Tomlin is shown the door, but perhaps the discontent will lead to changes to his staff. For what it is worth, Tomlin did not throw his support behind OC Todd Haley when given the chance during his season-ending press conference.

ESPN's Jeremy Fowler reports Eagles QBs coach John DeFilippo is expected to get a second interview for the Cardinals' head coaching vacancy.

DeFilippo is also thought to be Panthers DC Steve Wilks' top choice for an offensive coordinator if he lands a lead job, but DeFilippo remains in the running in Arizona himself. DeFilippo did surprisingly well as the Browns' coordinator in 2015 and has played a large role in Carson Wentz's development. It is only a matter of time until he lands a head coaching job.

On his radio show, Ben Roethlisberger hinted he wants Todd Haley to remain the offensive coordinator in 2018.

"The least amount of change the better," Roethlisberger said. "We don’t want to have big changes because we’re right there. We’re on the cusp." Ben went on to say the issues between he and Haley were "perceived as a bigger deal" than they were. Haley is not under contract for 2018, but these comments from Roethlisberger at least give him a shot to return.

Titans GM Jon Robinson has "zero concern" about Marcus Mariota playing for his third head coach since entering the league in 2015.

"Marcus is a pretty resilient guy. He’s a very mentally tough guy," Robinson said. "I have zero concern in Marcus being able to adapt and learn, and do what’s best to get the offense going." Yet another coaching change is a concern for Mariota's development, but having him play another year with a coaching staff he regressed under in 2017 was a bigger worry. Assuming Robinson finds the right coach, this move should be good for Mariota's future.

NFL Network's Ian Rapoport reports Steelers OL coach Mike Munchak will have a second interview for the Cardinals' head coaching vacancy.

Arizona will give other coaches a second interview as well, but this indicates Munchak is a serious candidate. Munchak spent 17 seasons with the Titans before being promoted to head coach in 2011, going 22-26 over three seasons. He has been with the Steelers since 2014.

The Cleveland Plain Dealer's Mary Kay Cabot reports ex-Giants coach Ben McAdoo is interviewing for the Browns' offensive coordinator vacancy.

And Browns fans thought Mike Mularkey being linked to the job was as bad as it would get. McAdoo did have some success early in his run with the Giants, but his offenses were among the worst in the league the last two seasons even when Odell Beckham was on the field. Texans QBs coach Sean Ryan has also been linked with the job.

MMQB's Albert Breer reports Panthers DC Steve Wilks is still "in the mix" for the Cardinals' head coaching vacancy.

Vikings OC Pat Shurmur was reportedly the favorite in Arizona, but he appears poised to take over the Giants job. That would open the door for Wilks, who Breer reports would bring Eagles QBs coach John DeFilippo with him as offensive coordinator. Wilks will also interview for the Titans, where he presumably will make the same pitch.

Bucs GM Jason Licht said Doug Martin "wasn't ever the same" after returning from suspension.

Martin looked great in his first game back, rushing for 74 yards and a score on just 13 carries against the Patriots, but it was all downhill from there. He was disciplined for a team-rules violation in Week 13, and he watched Peyton Barber jump him on the depth chart. The Bucs can wipe all of Martin's $6.75 million salary off the cap by cutting him. It would be a shock if that did not happen.
