Packers ILB Brad Jones (hamstring) is nearing a return.

Jones has been out since sustaining a serious hamstring pull in Week 5. That's allowed unknown Jamari Lattimore to shine as a starter and possibly force a rotation going forward. The only role Jones is guaranteed is in dime packages.

DeAndre Hopkins (ankle) is officially active for Week 16 against the Ravens.

He didn't practice all week, so we don't feel great about Hopkins. Pair that with the Texans' starting QB situation, and Hopkins is a WR3. But he should see decent targets against an injury-ravaged Ravens cornerback group. Inactive for the Texans are QB Tom Savage, TE Garrett Graham, ILB Mike Mohamed, LG Xavier Su'a-Filo, WR DeVier Posey, S Josh Aubrey, and OLB Jason Ankrah.

Cam Newton is active for Week 16 against the Browns.

He's officially starting and gets a matchup boost with Joe Haden (shoulder) on the Browns' inactive list.

Julio Jones (strained oblique) is officially active for Week 16 against the Saints.

The Falcons reportedly saw enough from Jones in a pre-game workout to make him active despite Jones missing every practice this week. Jones could be limited by his oblique injury, but the buzz around Falcons' camp has always been he would be more than a decoy if active. He is a risky play during championship week, but his upside makes him a mid-range WR2 even with the risk.

ESPN's Jeremy Fowler reports Joe Haden (shoulder) will not play Sunday at Carolina.

It's a nice boost to Kelvin Benjamin and Cam Newton's matchups. When healthy, Haden has been a top-five cover corner in the second half of this season. Look for Buster Skrine to now shadow Benjamin all over the field, much as he did to A.J. Green after Haden left last week's game against Cincinnati.

ESPN's Chris Mortensen reports Philip Rivers has a bulging disk in his back, and offseason back surgery "may be (an) option."

Rivers has been playing through significant pain for more than a month. It's been borne out in his on-field play, although Rivers was still able to rally back for a Saturday night win over San Francisco in a gutty and highly impressive performance. Rivers is not in danger of missing the Chargers' Week 17 game at Kansas City. San Diego remains squarely in the playoff hunt. For as long as he's been in the league, Rivers has been one of the toughest players in football. He's even played through a torn ACL before.

NFL Network's Ian Rapoport reports DeMarco Murray is "going to play" Sunday with a wrap on his surgically repaired hand, but the Cowboys are "nervous" about using him in pass protection.

RapSheet writes to not be surprised if Murray and other Cowboys rest next week if Dallas locks up a playoff spot today. On Sunday, we expect to see Lance Dunbar handle a few more snaps than usual in pass-pro situations. The Cowboys may also give Joseph Randle a heavier dose of change-up work. Murray is still a top-ten RB1 play against the Colts' leaky defense.
Dec 21 - 9:31 AM

NFL Network's Ian Rapoport reports T.Y. Hilton (hamstring) will try to play Week 16 against the Cowboys but is a "longshot."

Look for Hilton to test out his gimpy hammy in warmups, but we're not expecting Hilton to suit up for the 4:25 ET kickoff -- especially with the Colts having little to play for. Owners need to have other plans in place. "If he's not 100 percent, can't open it up and be TY, then there's no sense putting him out there," coach Chuck Pagano said. If Hilton ultimately doesn't play, Donte Moncrief will see an expanded role in two- and three-wide sets next to Reggie Wayne and Hakeem Nicks. Moncrief is the preferred plug-n-play as he has the freshest legs and has out-snapped Nicks badly the last few weeks.

CBS Sports' Jason La Canfora reports the Falcons plan to fire coach Mike Smith after the season.

La Canfora adds that "it would take a shocking playoff run to alter that scenario." This doesn't come as a surprise. Smith has been on the job for seven seasons now, but the team has taken a few steps back the past couple years. The Falcons are said to be looking at Broncos OC Adam Gase, Patriots OC Josh McDaniels, and Stanford coach David Shaw, among others, as replacements.

Julio Jones (questionable, hip) participated in the Falcons' Saturday walkthrough.

Beat writer Vaughn McClure takes this as a "positive sign" Julio will play Sunday at New Orleans. Although Jones' status won't be decided until just before game time, most signs point toward the Falcons counting on Julio to play. Sunday's Falcons-Saints game has a 1PM ET start, so we'll know his availability early. It's hard to imagine sitting Julio in fantasy leagues if he's active.
Dec 20 - 11:19 PM

The Patriots have ruled out Julian Edelman (concussion) and LeGarrette Blount (shoulder) for Week 16 at the Jets.

Neither made the trip to New York. Edelman figures to be replaced by Danny Amendola, who could be a slightly intriguing "punt" play in DFS this week, although the majority of Tom Brady's targets figure to go to Rob Gronkowski, Brandon LaFell, and Shane Vereen. With Blount on the shelf, Jonas Gray will operate as New England's primary power runner between the tackles.
Dec 20 - 11:15 PM's Ian Rapoport reports Frank Gore (concussion) will play in Saturday night's game against the Chargers.

Gore practiced on a limited basis and has cleared his concussion protocols. With Carlos Hyde (ankle, back) ruled out, he should see an increased workload. Gore is a top-25 running back play for Week 16.
