Rob Gronkowski (forearm, back, hamstring) was limited in Wednesday's practice.

The hamstring is new and raises the eyebrow. However, there's been zero word on the injury's extent, and we wouldn't expect to learn much over the course of the week. The good news is that Gronkowski is practicing. He should be all systems go as fantasy's top tight end play against the Steelers Sunday.

Cam Newton completed 8-of-20 passes for 61 yards and two interceptions Friday night against the Patriots.

Newton struggled all night, overthrowing Kelvin Benjamin badly on two early throws and showing inconsistent accuracy despite little to no pressure. Both interceptions came on back-foot throws, the first of which was a terrible ball thrown ball both short and too far infield. It was an ugly game, but ultimately not much of a concern for the reigning MVP. He is still safe to take as the overall QB1.

Rookie RB Keith Marshall exited Friday night's preseason game with a sprained elbow.

It's probably a day-to-day injury, but will cost Marshall a big opportunity with Matt Jones (shoulder) inactive. Marshall was rotating first-team snaps with Rob Kelley in the Kirk Cousins group before going for X-rays on his arm. Marshall's injury may force the Skins to add a running back via free agency or trade.

Blaine Gabbert is expected to start the 49ers' third preseason game.

As ESPN's Bob Holtzman notes, it's an "indication" Colin Kaepernick "will have to play really well" to win the 49ers' starting job. It won't be hard to play better than Gabbert, but Gabbert getting the start in the regular season dress rehearsal remains notable. Gabbert can probably still escape as the likely Week 1 starter if he plays competently and Kaepernick struggles at all.

Dolphins WLB Jelani Jenkins will undergo a knee scope.

The Fins also lost rotational DE Terrence Fede to a sprained MCL. Jenkins is coming off a 71-tackle season across 13 starts. He is regarded as Miami's top coverage linebacker. The Dolphins' defensive back seven is a total mess.

Cowboys.com's Bryan Broaddus believes Ezekiel Elliott is not yet in "football shape."

This is just one man's opinion, but comes via a trusted team insider who works for the Cowboys. It's actually not surprising that Zeke isn't yet in Week 1-ready condition after he missed most of the beginning of camp with a hamstring issue. Elliott only resumed practicing fully about ten days ago. Elliott, of course, still beasted with 7-48 rushing against Seattle's first-team defense while working as an every-down back on the first two possessions Thursday night. He could be seen huffing and puffing after a few of his runs. Scarily, Broaddus believes Zeke "can run better" than he did against the Seahawks. Elliott has 16 more days to get himself in full football shape.

Jimmy Garoppolo will start the Patriots' third preseason game.

Tom Brady is over his thumb injury, but the Patriots want to get Garoppolo reps with the starters in their dress rehearsal. Brady is expected to play "at some point" in Friday night's game.

The Colts are hosting free agent RB Stevan Ridley for a visit.

The Colts are desperate for running back depth, where career JAG Bob Turbin is currently the favorite for No. 2 duties behind Frank Gore. Josh Ferguson has fallen onto the roster bubble, while Jordan Todman never seems to be able to nail down an NFL home. Ridley, 27, probably isn't the answer. He has looked washed up in stints with the Jets and Lions since a 2014 ACL tear.

Tyler Eifert (ankle) is targeting Weeks 4-6 for his return, according to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport.

The Cincinnati Enquirer hinted Friday that Eifert was still holding out hope for Week 1, but Rapsheet's report seems to eliminate that possibility. Eifert only recently resumed jogging after undergoing ankle surgery three months ago. If Rapoport's timetable holds, the earliest we'd see Eifert back on the field would be September 29 against Miami. Brandon LaFell and Tyler Boyd figure to be more involved in the passing game while Eifert is sidelined.

ESPN's Ed Werder reports the NFL "seems content" with Jerry Jones' "rebuke" of Ezekiel Elliott for visiting a marijuana store in Seattle.

A league source did tell Werder, however, that there remains a "pattern of behavior concern" with Elliott, who is also being investigated for domestic violence against his ex-girlfriend. There have been no developments in the domestic violence case. Elliott is in the clear at the moment, but he needs to start walking a finer line. The NFL is certainly keeping a close watch.

The Cincinnati Enquirer expects the Bengals to "swing back closer" to a power-running offense featuring Jeremy Hill this season.

With Tyler Eifert healthy and Marvin Jones opposite A.J. Green, the 2015 Bengals incorporated more spread-passing concepts under ex-OC Hue Jackson. The Enquirer's Paul Dehner says "the success of (Andy) Dalton and abundance of passing-game weapons didn't play into Hill's strength last year." Under new OC Ken Zampese, Dehner forsees Cincinnati resuming a rushing-oriented approach with Hill behind FB Ryan Hewitt. Dehner is also buying the narrative that Hill's "razor focus and desire to return to rookie form are very real this offseason."

ESPN's Adam Schefter reports Falcons first-round SS Keanu Neal needs a knee scope and will be sidelined 3-4 weeks.

It's good news considering Neal went down with a non-contact knee injury in Thursday night's preseason game. He seems certain to miss Week 1 and possibly Week 2, but Neal should be back sometime in September. Coach Dan Quinn's next Kam Chancellor, Neal offers big-time tackle upside.
