NFL.com's Mike Silver reports Raiders coach Dennis Allen is "very much on the hot seat" with two games left in the season.

Citing a source familiar with owner Mark Davis' thinking, Silver reports the Raiders' Weeks 16-17 performance will be "crucial" in determining Allen's future with the club. If the Raiders' players "get embarrassed" or show any signs of regression, "Allen will likely be fired." Per Silver, GM Reggie McKenzie looks safe for now despite a mixed bag of acquisitions -- to be kind -- through two seasons on the job. Allen's record in two years as Raiders coach is 8-22. For Allen's part, we believe Oakland has played better for most of 2013 than its talent in place. McKenzie needs to upgrade the Raiders' roster, and soon.

Leonard Fournette (foot) has been ruled out for the Jaguars' third preseason game.

It's a quick rule-out, but the Jaguars do play Thursday night on a short week. The third preseason game is viewed as the most important as the regular-season dress rehearsal, and it's unlikely Fournette will play in the fourth one. If he's done for the summer, Fournette will have played just 12 snaps. He said he'll play Week 1, but this is the same foot that hampered Fournette at LSU.

Seahawks acquired T/G Matt Tobin and a 2018 seventh-round pick from the Eagles in exchange for a 2018 fifth-round pick.

Seattle is scrambling for tackle options after losing George Fant. Tobin started at right guard for the 2015 Eagles, showing promise as a run blocker but getting destroyed in pass protection. He was demoted into a deep reserve role last season. Tobin should only be viewed as depth for the Seahawks.

According to NJ.com's Matt Lombardo, LeGarrette Blount has dealt with "weight issues" at Eagles camp, and has "disappointed" in practice.

Both Lombardo and NFL insider Adam Caplan have suggested Blount might not make the Eagles. Signed to a mere one-year, $1.25 million deal with next to no guarantees, Blount has reportedly been outplayed by Wendell Smallwood, and looked lost running out of the shotgun in Philly's second preseason game.

John Brown (quad) returned to Cardinals practice on Monday.

As Brown must attend an upcoming funeral, he was able to practice today and will meet the Cardinals in Atlanta for their third preseason game. It's unclear whether Brown will get snaps in the regular season dress rehearsal, but it does finally look like he's progressing. He remains a risky double-digit-round pick.

NFL Network's James Palmer suggests Jamaal Charles' performance in the Broncos' third preseason game could determine whether Charles makes the team.

Charles' long-balky knees will make their preseason debut in Denver's regular season dress rehearsal, where coach Vance Joseph promised Monday that Charles will play "a lot." Palmer calls it Charles' "one shot at making the Broncos' roster." Charles has no guaranteed money on his near-minimum deal, so the Broncos could cut ties without taking any financial loss should Charles struggle. They have rookie De'Angelo Henderson lined up as a change-of-pace fallback.

Speaking Monday after the Texans' second preseason game, coach Bill O'Brien said third-round RB D'Onta Foreman is "a long way off."

Foreman totaled 83 yards and a touchdown on Saturday night, but he didn't play until the second half, running behind Lamar Miller, Tyler Ervin, and Alfred Blue. "That's the second preseason game," O'Brien contextualized. "I know we've got him getting measured for a bust in Canton, but I would say that he's got a long way to go. He's got a lot of talent, but I think he's got a long way to go."

Philly Voice's Jimmy Kempski suggests Wendell Smallwood could win the Eagles' starting running back job.

Kempski calls it a "surprise development," but perhaps one Smallwood has earned by being "the best back in camp by a significant margin." While Smallwood beating out LeGarrette Blount now looks like a serious possibility, regardless of who wins the "starting job," Darren Sproles is likely to lead the backfield in snaps played. Blount is now looking like a fantasy pick to avoid.

Speaking Monday, coach Todd Bowles was noncommittal on Matt Forte's (hamstring) availability for Week 1.

Forte, who turns 32 in December, has missed almost all of training camp with a strained hamstring for the second straight year, and battled knee problems toward the end of last season. If Forte can't play in Week 1 against the Bills, Bilal Powell would be the Jets' feature back and rookie Elijah McGuire would be second string. Forte's fit on the tanking Jets' roster remains awkward.

Eric Ebron (hamstring) is still missing Lions practice.

He's essentially been out with July 31. By all accounts, the Lions were counting on Ebron to take a big leap in his fourth NFL season after finishing top ten amongst tight ends in both catches and yards last year despite missing three games. At very least, the missed cap reps have cost Ebron chances to build red-zone chemistry with Matthew Stafford in practice.

Paxton Lynch has lost the Broncos' quarterback battle to Trevor Siemian.

For the second straight year, 2016 first-round pick Lynch was unable to unseat 2015 seventh-rounder Siemian despite superior theoretical tools. Lynch has a big arm and plus athleticism, but he has shown no ability to deliver accurate passes downfield. The Broncos may have to go back to the drawing board at quarterback next offseason. Siemian has a low ceiling, and Lynch isn't cutting it.
Aug 21 - 2:12 PM

The Broncos have named Trevor Siemian their starting quarterback.

As expected. Siemian has outplayed 2016 first-round pick Paxton Lynch since the day Lynch was drafted, and Lynch made no tangible progress in his second NFL training camp. The Broncos envision Siemian as a capped-ceiling placeholder quarterback, but he gives the team its best chance to win now. The Broncos should probably look into acquiring Tyrod Taylor to add more talent to the room. Lynch has shown zero ability to move the offense.
