The Bengals' website expects DT Geno Atkins (ACL surgery) to be ready "at some point" in training camp.

Atkins hasn't had any setbacks, but is just three months removed from the ACL tear and will be in a race to get cleared by the start of camp. He's expected to avoid opening the season on reserve/PUP and should be ready for Week 1. An All-Pro in 2012, Atkins had 20 tackles and six sacks over nine starts before going down. He graded out as the No. 11 defensive tackle by Pro Football Focus.

Coach Mike Zimmer said Adrian Peterson has "two choices: he can play for us or not play."

It's as strong a statement as we've heard from the Vikings regarding Peterson, though they've been hinting at this for months. Peterson has no leverage. He's due $12.75 million, an amount the Vikings are willing to pay and a salary that other teams aren't looking to acquire. It's Minnesota or nowhere for A.D.

The Texans will appear on this summer's season of HBO's Hard Knocks.

As expected. The Texans don't jump off the screen as a team many would have near the top of the list of candidates for the show, but deep down there are plenty of intriguing storylines. Coach Bill O'Brien is fiery much like Rex Ryan and could pop off at any minute on the show, while the Texans will also be holding a full-blown quarterback competition to track this summer. J.J. Watt will certainly have plenty of air time as the league's premier defensive player. Arian Foster and DeAndre Hopkins should have starring roles as premier playmakers.

Redskins released RG Chris Chester.

Chester, 32, has started all 64 games for Washington the past four seasons, but isn't a fit for coach Jay Gruden's power-blocking scheme at just 305 pounds. The veteran remained a serviceable guard last season, especially in pass protection, so he should get another look. The Redskins save $4 million against the cap with the move. Spencer Long is now the favorite at right guard.

Coach Marvin Lewis admitted WLB Vontaze Burfict (knee) has a "long ways to go" in his rehab.

"Vontaze will be in rehab all the way through the summer," Lewis said. Burfict walked with a "hobble" and "generally looked uncomfortable" after running off to the side of Tuesday's practice. Signs continue to point to him landing on reserve/PUP to start the season. A.J. Hawk ran with the starters to begin OTAs.

Devonta Freeman opened Falcons OTAs as the first-string tailback.

Rookie Tevin Coleman ran with the twos. Freeman best projects as a role-player back, and was likely given the first-team nod out of veteran deference. In Kyle Shanahan's historically productive zone-run scheme, Coleman versus Freeman versus Antone Smith will be one of fantasy's top camp battles to watch.

Richard Sherman (elbow) is participating fully in OTAs.

Sherman was initially tabbed for Tommy John surgery on his left elbow, but opted for rest and rehab instead. It appears his recovery has gone according to plan. Heading into his age-27 season, Sherman is the game's best corner.
May 26 - 4:14 PM

Derek Carr (hand) has yet to resume throwing.

Carr took snaps in Tuesday's OTAs session, but was on the sideline for passing drills. Carr isn't currently considering hand surgery, and he's expected to be back to full health by training camp. It's a story worth monitoring for Raiders fans, but not a major concern.

Tamba Hali is recovering from a knee scope.

Per Hali, the operation was to "clean out some loose cartilage." It's unclear when Hali went under the knife, but there doesn't appear to be any concern about his status for training camp. Going on 32, Hali is coming off his lowest sack total since 2008. He took a $3 million pay cut to keep his roster spot.

Redskins coach Jay Gruden says third-round pick Matt Jones has shown more versatility than the team expected.

He served as the team's third-down back in Tuesday's OTAs session, a role he should seize from Silas Redd and Chris Thompson. Both Gruden and GM Scot McCloughan have talked up Jones since the draft, with Gruden even allowing that he could steal some work from Alfred Morris on early downs.
May 26 - 1:56 PM

Redskins TE Jordan Reed is "getting checked for soreness" in his knee.

It appears the injury-prone tight end is undergoing tests. Reed dealt with knee issues his rookie offseason, but has primarily been sidelined by hamstring issues. It's extremely unwelcome news that Reed is already at less than 100 percent.
May 26 - 1:41 PM

Johnny Manziel was the Browns' second-string quarterback as OTAs opened Tuesday.

As expected, veteran journeyman Josh McCown took the first-team reps. After last year's utter meltdown on and off the field, Manziel will have to earn the trust of his coaches and team before he climbs the depth chart. So far, all signs have been good since he got out of rehab. We're likely looking at a true competition in training camp.
