According to Vikings GM Rick Spielman, the "first thing" OC Norv Turner did upon being hired was "put in 10 plays for Cordarrelle Patterson."

Norval unleashed Josh Gordon last season, and is ready to do the same with the freakishly-athletic Patterson. No. 1 receivers have always thrived under Turner, especially ones who can take the lid off of opposing secondaries. Even for a No. 1 receiver, Patterson has rare speed and movement skills. He's one of 2014's most obvious breakout candidates.

Speaking Wednesday, Browns coach Hue Jackson said new Patriots RB Rex Burkhead will "flourish" in New England.

WKBW Buffalo's Joe Buscaglia believes Bills MLB Preston Brown could be available for trade.

Since being drafted No. 73 overall in 2014, Brown has appeared in all 48 games, making 46 starts. He was ex-coach Rex Ryan's signal-caller as a 3-4 inside linebacker, and Ryan long praised Brown, saying he believed Brown was "going to be a star." Well, Brown has never really been a playmaker, with just one career sack, three picks, and two forced fumbles. With new coach Sean McDermott shifting to a 4-3 and Reggie Ragland expected to be the middle linebacker, Brown doesn't have a starting spot. He has one year left on his rookie deal.

NFL Network's Ian Rapoport reports the Patriots "inquired" about Richard Sherman's availability before they signed Stephon Gilmore in free agency.

RapSheet adds that "others" asked about Sherman, though those teams' identities aren't known. New England knew it was losing Logan Ryan in free agency and possibly could also deal away Malcolm Butler, so Bill Belichick and Co. rang up the Seahawks to ask about Sherman, who seems to be wearing out his welcome a bit in Seattle. Both GM John Schneider and coach Pete Carroll have admitted a trade has been "talked about," but it's ultimately highly unlikely to happen. Acquiring Sherman would probably cost a first-rounder plus more.

Browns EVP Sashi Brown wouldn't rule out suspended WR Josh Gordon being welcomed back to the team.

"We’re not in position at wide receiver to turn down a guy like Josh if we feel he’s settled himself," Brown said. It goes against what coach Hue Jackson has preached since Gordon was hit with another suspension last year. At the time, Jackson said, "We need to close that chapter right now." Gordon doesn't turn 26 for another two weeks and was a mega-talent the last time he was on the field full time, producing an 87-1,646-9 line in 2013. The Browns are in the market for playmakers, and Gordon fits the bill. By most accounts, Gordon has his life on track.

Coach Bruce Arians said he'd like to get David Johnson 30 touches per game this season.

We've heard this "30 touches per game" thing from Arians before, and it's never exactly translated to that much work, but Johnson did average over 23 per game in 2016 and appears capable of more. Arians said Johnson is still too young to be "overused" at 25 years old. The Cardinals know they can't ask Carson Palmer to throw 40 times a week at his age in this downfield offense, so putting more on Johnson's plate is their best chance at winning games. Johnson is the early leader in the clubhouse to go No. 1 overall in fantasy drafts this summer.

Coach Bruce Arians said the Cardinals are moving Andre Ellington to wide receiver.

Ellington will no longer meet with the running backs and is moving full-time to receiver. He must have okayed the transition since Ellington re-signed a one-year deal with Arizona earlier this month. Ellington stands 5'9/199 and has always been a plus pass-catcher out of the backfield. He didn't hold up the one season Arizona tried to turn him into a workhorse back. With so many health-related question marks behind an aging Larry Fitzgerald, Ellington could have a chance to carve out a slot role in three- and four-wide sets. Arizona now needs a No. 2 runner.

Coach Hue Jackson said 2016 first-rounder Corey Coleman is now seen as "the guy" as the Browns' No. 1 receiver following the departure of Terrelle Pryor.

"He's got to go do it now, because he’s now seen as the 'the guy,' so he needs to go play and play well," Jackson said. "We see the potential of what he can be and what he will be and he’s doing the work right now that it takes to get there." Jackson seems confident Coleman will rebound in Year 2 following a down rookie season. Coleman started hot with a monster 5-104-2 against the Ravens in Week 2, but he broke his hand in practice the next week and missed six games. He failed to top 41 yards in any of the final eight contests, and ESPN Cleveland's Tony Grossi suggests the cold weather affected Coleman mentally. Coleman is a strong buy-low candidate in Dynasty.

Bleacher Report's Jason Cole reports the Saints have "no interest" in free agent Johnny Manziel.

Manziel and coach Sean Payton met during Super Bowl week, but nothing came of the sit-down. The former first-round bust of the Browns has said he's re-committed himself to the sport in hopes of getting another chance, but it's hard to see a team taking the plunge, even though Manziel is still only 24.

Cowboys owner Jerry Jones said his deadline for a Tony Romo decision is training camp.

Jones is trying to increase Romo's trade leverage by making it appear the team is in no hurry. Were the deadline actually camp, Romo would be extremely far behind with whatever team he ends up with. For all involved, the Cowboys need to bring the situation to a head no later than draft week. For what it's worth, when asked if Romo was considering retirement, Jones said the quarterback "has options." Romo has reportedly drawn broadcasting interest from FOX and CBS.

New Chargers coach Anthony Lynn believes the team needs to draft a young quarterback.

"I think we do have to get a young quarterback on campus," was Lynn's exact quote. "We need to start developing someone because we have two veteran quarterbacks, and both of them are long in the tooth." It's a blunt, correct assessment, one echoed by GM Tom Telesco earlier this month. Philip Rivers, who has made a habit of second half fades the past few seasons, turned 35 in December.

49ers GM John Lynch says the team hasn't talked with free agent Colin Kaepernick since Feb. 22.

In other words, the new GM and coach Kyle Shanahan have zero interest in bringing Kap back. Kap has yet to take so much as a visit in free agency.
