Speaking Tuesday, Jaguars coach Gus Bradley reiterated that Toby Gerhart will likely see a starter's workload.

"He has the ability to play all three downs," Bradley said. "If he’s a guy that is carrying it 15-16 times and with third down reps, 18 times. That’s feasible. A strong possibility." From his contract ($4.5 million guaranteed) to his coach's comments, it's clear Gerhart will enter Week 1 atop the depth chart. Despite his grinding nature as a runner, Gerhart will have RB2 upside for fantasy purposes.

Colin Kaepernick said he believes he can still win the starting job.

"Yeah, most definitely," Kaepernick said. "I’m going to go out and show everything I can these next two games and make sure I put my best foot forward to show this organization, this team, this coaching staff what I’m capable of." Kap's injury issues have given Blaine Gabbert a big head start, but he has not taken advantage of the opportunity through two preseason games. If Kaepernick shows well Friday, he could make things interesting. Kap has not played in an NFL game since November 8.

The (currently) Oakland Raiders filed a trademark application for "Las Vegas Raiders."

The move does not mean the team is definitely going to Las Vegas, but it is another strong indication there is more than smoke surrounding the proposed move to Sin City. Owner Mark Davis has said the team will move to Las Vegas if the city "comes through" on a new stadium deal, and Cowboys owner Jerry Jones has already publically supported the move, suggesting there is backing inside the league as well.

ESPN's Jamison Hensley suggested the Ravens could employ a four-back committee to start the season.

With nobody playing well enough to separate from the group, Hensley thinks the Ravens could open the season with Justin Forsett as the starter, Buck Allen and rookie Kenneth Dixon as third-down backs, and Terrance West as the short-yardage option. That kind of split seems unlikely, but it is a reminder of how fluid the situation is in Baltimore's backfield. For now, Forsett is still the best fantasy option, but the best play could be to just stay away.

NFL Network's Ian Rapoport reports Texans second-round C Nick Martin will miss the season after undergoing ankle surgery.

ESPN reports Martin is expected to miss at least four months, which would essentially rule him out for all of the regular season. It is possible he returns late in the year for a playoff push. Martin suffered what was called a high-ankle sprain last week, but it is clear the injury was more severe than initially reported. With Martin expected to serve as the starting center as a rookie, the Texans will now turn to undrafted sophomore Greg Mancz.

Lions released RB Stevan Ridley.

The writing was on the wall after Ridley played behind Zach Zenner, George Winn, and rookie Dwayne Washington this preseason. By releasing him now, the Lions have at least given Ridley a shot to latch on somewhere else -- and perhaps offset some of the $250,000 guaranteed they owe him -- but he has not proven to be an effective back since shredding his knee in 2014. The 27-year-old could be nearing the end. With Ridley gone, Zenner is now locked in as the big-back complement to Ameer Abdullah.

The Lions' offense has utilized a no-huddle look on 62 percent of their plays during the preseason.

Detroit used no-huddle on just 7.0 percent of plays last season, finishing 30th in situation-neutral pace according to Football Outsiders. Both numbers should be significantly higher this year. "The faster you can push the tempo, when you want to, really, it just makes it more stressful on the defense," Matthew Stafford said. "If you feel like you're playing at a normal speed, and they think you're playing really fast, it feels a whole lot better for us." Stafford shined with OC Jim Bob Cooter calling the shots late last season, and the coordinator is molding his system to Stafford's strengths again this year. Currently the 16th fantasy quarterback off the board, it is possible Stafford is being undervalued.

Trevor Siemian said he thinks the Broncos' quarterback competition is ongoing.

"I’m not reading too much into it, to be honest with you," Siemian said of being named the starter for the third preseason game. "I think it’s a good opportunity for us to take another step as a team." Gary Kubiak will be giddy to hear his new starting quarterback is a veteran at coachspeak. Unless he faceplants on Saturday, Siemian will open the season as the starter.

Coach Mike Mularkey promised Wednesday that the Titans will "find ways" to get Derrick Henry on the field this season.

Mularkey confirmed DeMarco Murray is the "starter," but the Titans are likely to use a two-back offense that could expand to three if Dexter McCluster is incorporated as the passing-down specialist. Henry has looked genuinely special this August. The Titans would be foolish to not give him 10-14 touches per game. With that said, Murray has dominated the first-team preseason snaps so far.

Jeremy Langford (foot) returned to a limited practice on Wednesday.

Langford appears to be questionable at best for the Bears' regular season dress rehearsal, but this is a step in the right direction after his foot was stepped on in Chicago's second preseason game, and Langford spent the next day in a walking boot. All signs still point to this being a minor "injury".

John Brown missed Cardinals practice with a headache on Wednesday.

We usually wait three days to blurb players with seemingly day-to-day injuries, but this is especially concerning after Brown missed three weeks of training camp with a concussion. He was cleared to practice earlier this week. Brown will likely be placed back into the NFL's concussion protocol. We're not quite worried that he'll miss Week 1, but the situation is increasingly troubling.

Coach Pete Carroll confirmed Thomas Rawls (ankle) will not play in the third preseason game, but did say Rawls "will play in the season opener."

It's pretty much as expected and what has been reported the past few days. But it's good to hear it straight from the coach's mouth, even if that coach sees things through rose-colored glasses. Rawls resumed practicing without limitations three days ago. He needs to start the season strong to hold off a back-from-the-dead Christine Michael, who has looked impressive this preseason.
