Texans re-signed CB Elbert Mack.

Mack, 28 in July, appeared in eight games for the Texans last season as a reserve corner and special teamer. He'll try and fill the same role in 2014.

NFL.com's Mike Garafolo reports J.J. Watt's (back surgery) recovery could take up to 10 weeks.

Watt underwent surgery to repair a herniated disc on Wednesday. As is often the case with injury timelines, Watt's has gone from overly optimistic to more concerning in only a matter of hours. Houston's Week 3 Thursday night game is just nine weeks from today. Watt is now a serious candidate to miss the entire first month of the season, with the reserve/PUP list perhaps even an outside possibility. That would be the worst-case scenario.

NFL.com's Ian Rapoport reports J.J. Watt is recovering from back surgery, but will be ready for Week 1.

Watt will begin camp on the active/PUP list, and is probably doubtful for the preseason. It caps an injury-marred offseason for Watt, who barely practiced as he recovered from "core" surgery on both sides of his body. Despite the sunny outlook, back surgery should never be taken lightly. Watt has earned his reputation as one of the toughest players in the league, but Week 1 shouldn't be considered a guarantee until we get a little deeper into camp.

Both Profootballtalk and ESPN's Adam Schefter report the Jaguars have no immediate plans to sign free agent Greg Hardy.

Per a league source via PFT, the Jags "wanted to learn more about Hardy so that they’ll know more about him if at some point down the road they need him." The Jags are essentially updating their emergency list. Of course, they're also almost certainly gauging public reaction to the pariah Hardy's visit. The Jags are Hardy's only-known workout of the offseason.

Richard Rodgers played as heavy as 272 pounds last season, but was "noticeably trimmer" this offseason.

Rodgers, who is 6-foot-4, is listed at 257 pounds. 272 is obviously an unacceptable number for a 6-foot-4 tight end, especially one expected to catch passes. Either way, longtime Packers reporter Bob McGinn expects Rodgers to remain the Packers' No. 1 tight end even following the addition of Jared Cook. We're betting against Rodgers matching any of the numbers from his 58/510/8 2015 slash.

Free agent Ray Rice says he'd donate his entire salary to domestic violence charities if signed for the 2016 season.

"All the scrutiny that I’ve got, it was deserved, because domestic violence is a horrible thing," Rice said. "Me donating my salary is something that’ll be from the heart for me. I only want to play football so I can end it the right way for my kids and for the people that really believed in me." Rice's comments come a week after he admitted his career is probably over. Now 29, Rice's last carry came in Dec. 2013.

According to the Titans' official website, Dorial Green-Beckham "needs to return to Nashville in better shape" for training camp.

One of the reasons Green-Beckham lost his starting job to Tajae Sharpe in a motivational ploy is that his offseason conditioning wasn't up to snuff. DGB has vowed to be ready for camp after his humbling spring. Green-Beckham is prodigiously talented, but the lightbulb continues to only flicker. It needs to turn on.

Steelers released TE Matt Spaeth with a failed physical designation.

According to GM Kevin Colbert, Spaeth never recovered from his January "knee scope." A 2007 third-rounder, Spaeth has been the Steelers' blocking tight end for seven of the past nine seasons. He was due just $1 million, so his release probably isn't related to salary cap reasons. Spaeth turns 33 in November. It could be a while before his phone rings.

NFL Network's Ian Rapoport reports suspended WR Josh Gordon met with Roger Goodell on Wednesday "regarding his return to football."

Gordon is eligible to apply for reinstatement on August 1. While it is difficult to see this development as anything but a good sign, Rapoport cautioned this type of meeting is "a normal step in the process." Gordon did himself few favors by hanging out with Johnny Manziel for a good portion of the offseason, but it looks like he at least has a shot to play this season. The Cleveland Plain Dealer's Mary Kay Cabot believes the Browns would welcome Gordon back if he gains reinstatement.

ESPN Ravens reporter Jamison Hensley listed Ben Watson as the starter at tight end.

While the Ravens have questions throughout their entire offense, the tight end spot is the most confusing. After being signed to a two-year, $7 million deal in free agency, Watson probably enters camp as the starter, but he will face competition from Crockett Gillmore, Maxx Williams, and perhaps even Dennis Pitta. Unless someone clearly emerges, this will be a situation to avoid.

ESPN Ravens reporter Jamison Hensley listed Steve Smith Sr. and Mike Wallace as the starting receivers.

Smith should be locked into one of the spots if he is healthy, but the inclusion of Wallace is more interesting. Although Wallace was signed to a two-year, $11.5 million deal in March, Kamar Aiken has gotten more buzz this offseason. Breshad Perriman (knee) should also be involved if he is able to come back healthy. Like seemingly every other position on offense, the Ravens have a lot of questions to answer at receiver during training camp.

The New York Post's Brian Costello reports the Jets will give Matt Forte "plenty of rest" this season.

The implication being Bilal Powell and Khiry Robinson will see their fair share of work as part of a rotation. ESPN's Rich Cimini had a similar report earlier this week, saying the Jets plan to use a "time-share system." It has become clear Forte's touches will be limited, but he is still being drafted as a top-15 running back. There is a good chance he disappoints at that draft cost.
