SportsRadio 610 Houston reports the Texans and Falcons "will not be working together" on a trade for the No. 1 overall pick.

Per the station, the Falcons are still eyeing a move up from No. 6, but do not believe the player they covet is "worth picking with the No. 1 pick." This aspect of the report makes it a bit unbelievable, as someone who wouldn't fall to No. 6 but also isn't worth the plunge at No. 1 is a suspiciously narrow range of player. NFL.com's Ian Rapoport has refuted the report. Lying season is in full swing, and it's quite possible this story is a part of it.

Coach Bruce Arians said Jaron Brown is the Cardinals' No. 2 receiver.

Arians added a "right now," but Brown has taken hold of the job while John Brown (quad) has been nursing a quad strain for the past three weeks. A fifth-year possession-type receiver, Brown hasn't gotten many opportunities, but he was pushing at the No. 2 gig last season when Michael Floyd was scuffling. Brown ended up tearing his ACL in October. He's been all systems go in camp.

According to the Chicago Tribune's Brad Biggs, Mike Glennon remains the "strong favorite" to start the Bears' Week 1 opener against the Falcons.

However, Biggs admits he "wouldn't rule out the possibility" that Trubisky is the one under center. Glennon was brutal in the preseason opener, throwing a pick-six and completing 2-of-8 passes total. Trubisky then came on and lit it up against the Broncos' backups with one of the best showings of the first week of the preseason. If it happens again, the pressure will continue to mount.

Saints CB Delvin Breaux has been diagnosed with a fractured fibula and will miss 4-6 weeks.

The team has fired its orthopedists after misdiagnosing Breaux weeks ago with a simple contusion. It's far more than that, and Breaux could have underwent surgery sooner. He's now likely to miss multiple regular-season games. It was reported earlier this week that the Saints were shopping Breaux, but the missed diagnosis has given Breaux a legit reason for missing practice.

Cowboys second-year LB Jaylon Smith (knee) will make his professional debut in Saturday's second preseason game.

The No. 34 overall pick in the 2016 draft, Smith missed all of last year as he recovered from a gruesome knee injury suffered in his final year at Notre Dame. The Cowboys still took a chance on him, even though there was doubt he'd ever step back on a football field as a player. Smith has gone through a grueling rehab and would be a big boost if he can get close to pre-injury form.

Speaking Tuesday, John Brown (quad) made it clear he's not 100 percent and has no plans to "rush back."

Coach Bruce Arians intimated earlier in the day that Brown was ready to practice in full, but Brown isn't yet capable. "My body is different than others'," Brown said. "They expect me to come back fast, but I can’t. I’m all right, but I’m not where I want to be at." Brown remains more day-to-day than the week-to-week he has been for the past 2.5 weeks, but he's doubtful to play in the second preseason game. It's just another reminder how fragile and slow to recover Brown has been dating back to last year at this time. He's more of a high-ceiling, low-floor WR4.

ESPN's Adam Schefter forecasts Ezekiel Elliott's appeal hearing to take place Aug. 29.

It's good to have clarity on the date, but this being the NFL, we'll likely get an appeal to the appeal. With the situation so uncertain, fantasy owners should abide by the facts on the ground. The facts on the ground are that Elliott is suspended for the first six games of the 2017 season.

Speaking Tuesday, Seahawks coach Pete Carroll said there was "no question" Paul Richardson (shoulder) will be ready for Week 1.

Richardson sprained his AC joint in Sunday's preseason opener, but has evidently received good news in the 48 hours since. It's possible Richardson is held out of the rest of the exhibition slate, but the Seahawks are confident he will be in good working order for the opener. Richardson has been spending time as the 'Hawks' No. 2 receiver in camp, but this puts that in jeopardy.

Panthers signed WLB Thomas Davis to a one-year, $6.75 million extension through 2018.

The deal guarantees $2 million of Davis' 2017 salary, and guarantees another $1 million in 2018. It's designed to have 34-year-old Davis retire as a Panther. It was surely driven by owner Jerry Richardson, who adores Thomas. Ex-GM Dave Gettleman seemed unwilling to play ball on a Davis extension. It's believed to be part of the reason he was fired. Despite his ancient age, Davis remained a useful, if non-impact, player in 2017. He's still a snap hog.

Free agent ILB Rey Maualuga is working out for the Dolphins.

The Dolphins have a huge hole in the middle after losing second-rounder Raekwon McMillan to a torn ACL. Right now, "Mike Hull" is in line to be the Week 1 starter. A longtime Bengal, Maualuga was released in March. This is his first-known visit. Maualuga hasn't been effective in a while, but would probably be the favorite to start over Hull.

Seahawks WLB K.J. Wright is having his knee "looked at," but doesn't require surgery.

Coach Pete Carroll seemed confident Wright's ailment isn't one that will require going under the knife, but it's always possible the doctor comes back with a different opinion. Now 28, Wright is due $5.8 million this season. He hasn't missed a game since 2013.

Bilal Powell (neck) resumed practicing on Tuesday.

Powell participated in both 7-on-7 and 11-on-11 drills. He missed roughly a week and a half of action. He could see a series or two in the Jets' second preseason game on Saturday. Matt Forte (hamstring) remains sidelined. Powell is the touch favorite in the tanking Jets' 2017 backfield.
