SportsRadio 610 Houston reports the Texans and Falcons "will not be working together" on a trade for the No. 1 overall pick.

Per the station, the Falcons are still eyeing a move up from No. 6, but do not believe the player they covet is "worth picking with the No. 1 pick." This aspect of the report makes it a bit unbelievable, as someone who wouldn't fall to No. 6 but also isn't worth the plunge at No. 1 is a suspiciously narrow range of player. NFL.com's Ian Rapoport has refuted the report. Lying season is in full swing, and it's quite possible this story is a part of it.

Mike Wallace failed the conditioning test to open Ravens' training camp.

He'll get another chance to pass in on Thursday. But until Wallace does pass it, he won't be able to practice and could open camp on the active/NFI list. All in all, it's not a huge deal for a soon-to-be 30-year-old veteran, but hints Wallace may have developed some laziness during the summer break.

Eagles placed RB Ryan Mathews (ankle) on the active/NFI list.

Mathews suffered the ankle injury last week. There's been no reason to believe it's anything serious, but it's another reminder just how fragile Mathews has been throughout his career. Rookie Wendell Smallwood is a strong late-round flier.

Rams released QB Nick Foles.

It's been a move long in the making. After trading Sam Bradford and swapping a few draft picks with the Eagles to acquire Foles last offseason, the Rams then handed Foles a two-year, $24.5 million extension only to see him start 11 games and get benched for Case Keenum. Foles posted a horrific 69.0 passer rating with a 7:10 TD:INT ratio and career-worst 6.1 YPA. Expect him to land on his feet quickly as a backup on a much cheaper contract. The Jets could have interest.

The Sacramento Bee's Matt Barrows believes Bruce Ellington is in "excellent position" to be the 49ers' "breakout player" on offense.

As noted by Barrows, coach Chip Kelly has been talking up Ellington ever since Kelly took over in San Francisco. Small, but quick, Ellington has the ability to line up in the backfield and play the slot. He could be that piece Kelly loves to move around and get the ball into his hands. With just 19 career catches through two seasons, it's not out of the question that Ellington leads the team in catches this season with Torrey Smith operating as the big-play threat on the outside.

Cardinals signed ILB Donald Butler, formerly of the Chargers.

Butler was given a seven-year, $51.8 million extension in 2014, but quit on the team after getting paid and was run out of town back in March. Beat writer Kevin Acee went as far to call Butler a "thief" after he "stole from the team." Butler was Pro Football Focus' 51st-ranked inside linebacker out of 60 qualifiers last season. He'll compete for a gig behind Kevin Minter and Deone Bucannon.

ESPN's Adam Caplan reports Jeremy Langford packed on 8-10 pounds during the offseason in an effort to handle an "increased role" in the backfield.

Langford tipped the scales at 208 at last year's Combine and is listed at 211 by the Bears. Per Caplan, he's now in the 219-220 range. It's conceivable Langford will shed some water weight this summer in the heat, but this could be taken as a red flag. It's hard to get behind running backs putting on this much added weight because it's hard for them to keep their speed. (We saw it happen with Andre Ellington just last year.) Langford is viewing it as a positive so he can handle a larger workload. We'll see how he looks in the preseason, but Langford already had problems making tacklers miss as a rookie.

Chiefs placed RB Jamaal Charles (knee) on the active/PUP list.

Coach Andy Reid hinted at this last month, saying he wasn't sure if Charles would be cleared for the start of camp. Charles is roughly nine months removed from tearing his ACL, but the Chiefs have no reason to push him as a nine-year veteran. Consider him day-to-day and don't expect to see much of Charles in the preseason. Charcandrick West and Spencer Ware will see plenty of reps.

ESPN Bills reporter Mike Rodak doesn't consider suspended RB Karlos Williams a lock to make the team.

Rodak admits Williams "should be safe," but this is a reminder just how bad of an offseason Williams had after an impressive rookie year. He reported to the team considerably overweight, looked badly out of shape in side-field conditioning drills at minicamp, and was slapped with a four-game suspension for violating the substance-abuse policy. Williams will have some depth chart climbing to do when he returns. Mike Gillislee is the favorite for No. 2 duties.

ESPN's Ed Werder reports the Jets and free agent Ryan Fitzpatrick have had "no recent talks."

Werder confirms the sides "remain far apart" with "no resolution expected soon." It's a similar report to Ian Rapoport's on Tuesday. Geno Smith will open training camp as the Jets' starting quarterback. If Geno practices well and earns respect in the locker room, perhaps the Jets would move on altogether from Fitz. In a Wednesday morning column, ESPN New York's Rich Cimini predicted that ultimately "cooler heads will prevail" and the Jets will "strike a deal" with Fitzpatrick "before the second preseason game."
Jul 27 - 8:59 AM

The Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel's Pete Dougherty estimates Eddie Lacy reported to camp "around the 240-pound mark."

It would be a 20-pound loss from where Lacy reported at last year's camp. Lacy's ideal weight is 231-235, but he could easily sweat off several more pounds practicing in the heat. He remains a boom-bust investment in fantasy drafts.
Jul 27 - 12:59 AM

The Miami Herald's Barry Jackson considers Arian Foster "the favorite" to start over Jay Ajayi as long as Foster is "completely healthy."

Coach Adam Gase has been talking up Foster the past week-plus since Foster signed a one-year deal. Ajayi is an unproven second-year pro who has some injury concerns of his own and doesn't have the pass-game skill set Foster possesses. Foster is no sure thing from an injury standpoint, either, but signs have been pointing to him being very involved since signing a contract last week. At this point, Foster will probably have to get hurt and/or Ajayi will need an incredible summer to take back the top spot on the Dolphins' depth chart.
