Marcus Lattimore concedes he's "not all the way back, physically or mentally" from his catastrophic college knee injuries.

Lattimore's college career-ending injury involved ACL, PCL, and LCL tears in his right knee. Lattimore concedes he "still lacks the first-step burst" and "explosiveness through the hole" that he possessed as a freshman. Even before the 2012 triple-knee-ligament tear, Lattimore tore his left ACL as a sophomore. Lattimore is an easy guy to root for, but remains a long shot to rediscover past dynamic form. We'll monitor him closely throughout training camp, of course.

Coach Mike Smith said the Falcons will decide Julio Jones' (hip) Week 16 status on Sunday morning.

Julio didn't practice Wednesday, and we don't expect him to do so at all this week. He's dealing with a labrum issue in his hip. All we can do is wait until 11:30 AM ET Sunday morning for a decision. We'll continue to provide any updates, but we're unlikely to learn anything before the weekend.
Dec 17 - 2:04 PM

Cam Newton (back) returned to a limited practice Wednesday.

He and Derek Anderson split first-team reps with Newton getting back in the swing of things after last Tuesday's car accident. Kelvin Benjamin said Cam threw the ball with his normal "fire" on Wednesday. We'd bet Newton starts Week 16 against the Browns with the Panthers hanging on for dear life in the NFC South.

49ers LE Ray McDonald is being investigated by the San Jose Police Department on a rape allegation that was reported last Tuesday.

A search warrant has been issued for McDonald's home, and the judge signed it on Tuesday. McDonald was in the news over summer after he was arrested on felony domestic violence charges. Those charges were eventually dropped. But he now has a potential sexual assault case on his hands. It'll be interesting to see if the 49ers choose to stand by McDonald's side as they did over summer.

Blake Bortles (foot) is questionable for Thursday night's Week 16 game against the Titans but is expected to start.

Bortles sprained his foot in last Sunday's loss to the Ravens but made a quick recovery on a short week and should be under center for this AFC South dumpster fire. Neither Bortles nor Charlie Whitehurst are fantasy options.
Dec 17 - 12:37 PM

DeMarco Murray (hand) participated in Wednesday's practice.

Murray had his left (non-dominant) hand wrapped after breaking it last Sunday, but went through all of the individual drills and caught some passes out of the backfield. We believe Murray is going to try and play Week 16 against the Colts with the Cowboys having a chance at home-field advantage for the playoffs.
Dec 17 - 12:30 PM

T.Y. Hilton (hamstring) is not practicing Wednesday.

It's not a major concern. Yet. Hilton is reportedly aiming to be on the field Thursday. He tweaked his hamstring in Sunday's win over the Texans. Hilton's MRI on Monday came back clean. His status will be updated again Thursday.
Dec 17 - 12:19 PM

Dexter McCluster (knee) has been ruled out for Week 16 against the Jaguars and is expected to miss the rest of the season.

Predictably, McCluster proved to be yet another terrible free-agent signing by GM Ruston Webster. Yet, the Titans remain committed to Webster running the organization. They'll continue to toil in mediocrity. McCluster inked a three-year, $9 million deal that included $4.5 million guaranteed. He went on to rush 40 times for a measly 131 yards (3.1 YPC) and catch 26 passes for 197 yards (7.6 YPR) and one touchdown. He's set to count $3.35 million against the cap in 2015.
Dec 17 - 11:44 AM

Rashad Jennings (ankle) is not practicing Wednesday.

Jennings played one offensive snap last week against the Redskins and aggravated his previous ankle injury on the play. If Jennings can't play -- and it seems unlikely that he will -- Andre Williams will handle a big bulk of the carries against the Rams. Williams would come into play as a back-end RB2.

The Chargers announced Tuesday a commitment to continue new stadium efforts in San Diego through 2015.

The Spanos family has been doing the year-to-year thing with San Diego and Qualcomm Stadium since February 2007. Each year since then, they've announced the team will not exercise its termination clause. It's come to light more this season because of the growing suspicion of at least one NFL team moving to Los Angeles in 2015. It's not going to be the Bolts. And it's appearing less and less likely that any team will make L.A. its home next season. The Chargers have been trying to get a new stadium in San Diego for 14 years.
Dec 16 - 9:10 PM

Frank Gore (concussion) and Carlos Hyde (ankle, back) both did not practice Tuesday.

The 49ers weren't required to submit an injury report Tuesday, but they take on the Chargers on Saturday night, so both players are on a short week. Gore visited the doctor on Tuesday as part of the league's concussion protocol, while Hyde hurt his ankle and back in the third quarter last Sunday. Alfonso Smith and FB Bruce Miller are the only other ball-carriers on the 49ers roster.
Dec 16 - 8:23 PM

Keenan Allen says he's taking things "week by week" with his broken right collarbone.

According to the Union-Tribune San Diego, Allen is "not considered a candidate for injured reserve." He has yet to undergo surgery, and "no such procedure is currently planned." It's interesting Allen and the Chargers are apparently so optimistic about an injury that typically sidelines players for the better part of two months, but we strongly suspect he's played his final snap of the 2014-15 campaign. Allen should be formally ruled out for Saturday's game against the 49ers some time in the next 48 hours. With Allen out, Seyi Ajirotutu will serve as the Bolts' No. 3 receiver behind Malcom Floyd and Eddie Royal.
