49ers signed No. 57 overall pick RB Carlos Hyde to a four-year contract.

A bruising power runner, Hyde averaged 6.11 yards per carry for his Ohio State career. Arguably the draft's top back, Hyde joins a crowded, but uncertain, 49ers' running back corps. Frank Gore is in the twilight of his career, while Marcus Lattimore has hinted he'll never regain his pre-injury form. Kendall Hunter has been ticketed as a change-of-pace back. It makes Hyde an attractive investment in Dynasty leagues, though he's unlikely to be a re-draft asset this season.

"Numerous sources" tell CBS' Jason La Canfora that it's a "distinct possibility" the Titans are sold in 2015.

CEO Tommy Smith angrily denied sale rumors in January, but the murmurs won't die. Smith took over as team president following the death of Bud Adams in 2013. The Titans have been ineptly run for the better part of a decade. New ownership would likely be a good thing for fans.

Panthers signed TE Greg Olsen to a three-year, $22.5 million extension through 2018.

The deal includes a whopping $12 million signing bonus. Headed into the final year of his contract, Olsen had been set to make $5.25 million. The new deal is well deserved for one of the league's most consistent players. Olsen has caught at least 69 passes each of the past three seasons, and posted new career highs in receptions (84) and yards (1,008) last season. He turns 30 next week.

49ers signed WR Jerome Simpson to a two-year contract.

It's a flier for a team with an uncertain situation at receiver. Now 29, Simpson served a three-game suspension for (again) violating the league's policy on substance abuse last season, and was cut loose by the Vikings before his ban was through. Simpson has always been a competent deep threat, but that won't be enough to guarantee a spot on the 49ers' 53-man roster.

NBC Washington reports free agent S Devin McCourty is "high" on the Eagles' wish list, and will also be pursued by the Giants.

The Eagles have spent the week clearing cap space, and have a hole at free safety with Nate Allen expected to walk in free agency. The Eagles and G-Men won't be McCourty's only pursuers, as he's far and away this year's top-available safety. Most signs point to the Patriots getting outbid for his services.

Maurice Jones-Drew is retiring from the NFL after nine seasons.

This is a tough one. MJD was a shell of his former self the past two seasons, but retires as one of the best runners of his generation, and as a fantasy football hall-of-famer. A diminutive 5-foot-7, 210 pounds, MJD ran with the power of a bull during his prime, and was one of the game's best pass-catching backs. Even despite his rough 2013-14 seasons, Jones-Drew heads into retirement the owner of a career 4.4 YPC. He scored 79 touchdowns across 126 games. Already a dabbler in the media, MJD should be sticking around on television and radio.

CSN Chicago reports the Bears will not re-sign free agent LB Lance Briggs.

Briggs has spent his entire 12-year career with the Bears. Briggs was willing to kick inside in new DC Vic Fangio's 3-4 scheme, but will instead head to the open market after playing 461 effective snaps last season. Briggs ended the year on injured reserve with a groin issue, but was still an able run stopper before going down. 2015 will be his age-35 season.

CSN Bay Area reports the 49ers are interested in re-signing free agent Michael Crabtree.

There have been mixed reports on Crabtree's San Francisco future, but CSN Bay Area is an extremely reliable source for all things 49ers. An anonymous AFC executive believes Crabtree is worth $4-$5 million annually. Crabtree will undoubtedly set his sights higher, but will likely be disappointed by his market. He hasn't been the same since tearing his Achilles' tendon, and aside from his late-season push in 2012, has been highly inconsistent throughout his career.

Profootballtalk reports the Dolphins remain the "team to watch" for free agent Ndamukong Suh.

Mike Florio's report comes roughly an hour after NFL Network reported that the Raiders are planning to host Suh for a visit. "Multiple league sources" have told Yahoo's Rand Getlin that the Dolphins and Colts are prepared to make the "strongest pushes" for Suh. The smoke connecting Suh to Miami grows thicker by the day.

ESPN's Adam Schefter believes the Jets will attempt to pay Darrelle Revis "anything he wants" if/when he becomes a free agent.

Schefter believes the Revis sweepstakes will come down to the Jets and Patriots. The Jets made the difficult, but likely correct, decision to trade Revis two years ago, but meddlesome owner Woody Johnson has apparently felt regret. The New York media has spent the better part of two years beating the drum for Revis' return. Johnson seems to feel the pressure. Whatever the motivations, Revis would fill a huge need for Gang Green, and be playing for a coach in Todd Bowles who maximizes talent and scheme much the same way Rex Ryan does.

The Miami Herald reports the Patriots have "shown interest" in free agent Brian Hartline.

Hartline is not an exciting name, but is a competent target on the outside. That's something the Patriots have made a habit of lacking. Hartline is visiting the Texans on Thursday, and has also drawn interest from the Bears and Browns.

Peyton Manning is officially returning to the Broncos in 2015.

The only hoop left to jump through was his physical, which he passed. Manning accepted a $4 million pay cut Wednesday to give Denver more cap room to sign free agents. Peyton's favorite target, Demaryius Thomas, was franchise-tagged earlier this week. With those two back in the fold, it should be another high-scoring season in Denver -- even if Manning's volume declines as he enters his age-39 season with more arm strength concerns than ever.
