Lions coach Jim Caldwell confirmed LCB Chris Houston (toe) is questionable for the start of training camp.

Houston underwent toe surgery this week and has no timetable to return. The Lions would absorb $5.2 million in dead money by releasing Houston, so his roster spot is safe despite coming off a down season and multiple injuries. Darius Slay and fourth-round pick Nevin Lawson will get an extended look opposite Rashean Mathis.

Cowboys LT Tyron Smith (groin) is active for Week 12 against the Chargers.

Smith missed the past two games, a period in which the Cowboys' offense went off the rails. Smith's return greatly enhances Dak Prescott's outlook for what should be a high-scoring game.

Cowboys K Dan Bailey (groin) is active for Week 12 against the Chargers.

Bailey is back after missing three games. Inactive for the Cowboys are K Mike Nugent, RB Darren McFadden, CB Bene Benwikere, LB Sean Lee, LB Justin March-Lillard, TE Blake Jarwin and DT Daniel Ross.

Kelvin Benjamin (knee) remained sidelined on Thursday.

Although coach Sean McDermott has claimed Benjamin is "day to day," it's hard to see how he suits up against the Chiefs. We should learn Benjamin's official status by Friday.

Rishard Matthews was added to the Titans' injury report on Thursday, getting in a limited session with a hamstring issue.

Mid-week additions are never welcome, but for now, there's no reason to sweat Matthews' Week 12 status. That could change if he's downgraded to "DNP" on Friday. Owners should keep Matthews penciled in while having a back-up plan in mind.
Nov 23 - 2:17 PM

Jay Cutler did some "light throwing" in Thursday's practice, but remains in the concussion protocol.

The Dolphins are apparently "hopeful" Cutler will get cleared in time for Sunday's game against the Patriots, going so far as to say Cutler wouldn't need to practice to play. We should have a pretty good idea of Cutler's availability by Friday. We would still expect Matt Moore to start.
Nov 23 - 2:14 PM

Ex-Colts, Broncos and Falcons TE Jacob Tamme has announced his retirement from the NFL after 10 seasons.

Tamme caught 22 passes in eight games for the Falcons last season, but couldn't generate any interest on the open market. He ended 2016 on injured reserve after undergoing shoulder surgery. Now 32, Tamme finishes his career with 259 grabs for 2,570 yards and 14 touchdowns. He played in Super Bowl XLVIII with the Broncos. He had a fine decade of football.
Nov 23 - 1:52 PM

Jake Elliott (concussion) has resumed practicing in full.

Barring an unexpected setback, Elliott will be out there against the Bears. He's always an elite kicking option because of his big leg and place in a high-scoring offense.
Nov 23 - 1:47 PM

ESPN's Adam Schefter reports Sterling Shepard (migraines) is unlikely to play Thursday evening against the Redskins.

Earlier Thursday, FOX's Jay Glazer reported there was a "slight possibility" Shepard suits up, but it has always appeared unlikely. It seems like we won't get final word until after pre-game warmups, but owners should plan on a Week 12 without their would-be WR2. Tavarres King, Roger Lewis and Travis Rudolph will serve as the Giants' "top three" receivers.
Nov 23 - 1:30 PM

Emmanuel Sanders (ankle) returned to Broncos practice Thursday.

Wednesday was just a maintenance day. Even with the Broncos making yet another quarterback change, Sanders will remain in the WR2/3 mix against the Raiders' barely-there defense.
Nov 23 - 12:53 PM

FOX Sports' Jay Glazer reports there is a "slight possibility" Sterling Shepard (migraines, game-time decision) plays Thursday night against the Redskins.

Shepard seemed highly unlikely to play after sitting out the final two practices of the week, but he apparently woke up feeling better on Wednesday and now has a shot to suit up. Still, he appears on the wrong side of questionable. If he can go, Shepard would be a solid WR2 play in a great matchup.
Nov 23 - 12:27 PM

Jacoby Brissett (concussion) is practicing Thursday.

It is not a surprise after he got in a full practice Wednesday, but it is good to see he has not suffered any setbacks. He is fully expected to be cleared before Sunday's game against the Titans.
