Tony Romo (back surgery) said he'll be 100 percent for the start of training camp and could play in a game right now.

"I’m to a point where I can push it and kind of go, and I feel like at this point I could play in a game if I had to," Romo said. Romo participated in OTAs during individual drills but didn't do any team drills from under center. With the Cowboys employing new passing-game coordinator Scott Linehan's spread attack and a bottom-barrel defense, Romo has an excellent shot to top 5,000 yards.

Curtis Samuel suffered a strained hamstring at Friday's practice.

This has become a legitimate concern for the second-round rookie. Samuel missed time at minicamp with hamstring issues, so hopefully this doesn't become a chronic thing. Expect the Panthers to lay off Samuel for a week or so and see how he responds. Russell Shepard has reportedly been developing a rapport with Cam Newton in practice and throwing sessions, and he could threaten Samuel's No. 3 WR role.

In a June interview with Jaguars.com, coach Doug Marrone made it clear the team will play run-first football in 2017.

Per Jags.com's John Oehser, Marrone "wasn't joking about this, and he wasn't smiling" when he spoke. "Zero," Marrone replied when asked how many times he wants Blake Bortles to attempt a pass each game. "I’d like to run the ball every play. I want to go back to the old way. I want to change the game." It's the same style of football Dallas and Tennessee have successfully implemented over the past few years. Leonard Fournette will be the centerpiece of the Jaguars' offense, and the weekly game plan will be to hide Bortles.

Bengals first-rounder John Ross (shoulder) said he's not yet 100 percent but has been cleared to practice.

He'll likely be limited to individual drills at the start of camp. It will be Ross' first action with the team since being drafted after he missed the entire offseason program following shoulder surgery and Washington's late graduation. Ross figures to be eased in behind Brandon LaFell. Tyler Boyd will continue to man the slot.

Joe Flacco said his back injury isn't a disk issue; he's just dealing with some "stiffness" and hopes to miss only a week of practice.

He said there's no reason to believe he won't be out there well before Week 1 rolls around. NFL Network's Ian Rapoport came out of the gates hot saying Flacco would miss 3-6 weeks, but every report and statement since then has characterized the injury as minor. It sounds like Flacco tweaked his back while lifting weights. Ryan Mallett will handle the first-team reps for as long as Flacco is sidelined.

Tyler Eifert (back) said he's 100 percent healthy.

He said he's been that way for a "couple months" and is cleared for the start of training camp. Eifert had back surgery in December. Details of the operation aren't known, but his recovery went extremely smooth. Eifert simply needs to stay healthy. When on the field, Eifert is a touchdown-scoring machine. He has found pay dirt 18 times in 21 games over the past two seasons and is a legit TE1.

Eagles SLB Mychal Kendricks said he asked the team to trade or release him back in January.

The Eagles declined Kendricks' request. Kendricks doesn't have much of a role in DC Jim Schwartz's defense as the third linebacker. Perhaps the Eagles are holding onto Kendricks in the event WLB Nigel Bradham is suspended following his July 4 battery charge settlement.

Seahawks signed DE Marcus Smith, formerly of the Eagles.

The 26th overall pick in the 2014 draft, Smith was cut by the Eagles on Wednesday and cleared waivers Thursday. It's likely a deal for the league minimum with little or no guaranteed money. Seattle loves taking fliers on pass rushers, and Smith joins ex-Dolphins first-round bust Dion Jordan as ones who have joined the Seahawks this year. Smith will compete for a pass-rushing depth job in this loaded front.

Coach Vance Joseph said C.J. Anderson is in his best shape in "3-4 years."

This is Joseph's first summer as Anderson's coach, but the running back agreed with his coach's observation. "I'm definitely in the best shape I've been in in a long time, so I'm excited about that," Anderson said. Coming off a torn meniscus that ended his season in Week 7 last year, Anderson changed his training regimen in an effort to stay healthy. Jobs are up for grabs in Denver's backfield, with Jamaal Charles, Devontae Booker, and rookie De'Angelo Henderson as names to watch.

Raiders released G/T Austin Howard.

This locks in Marshall Newhouse as the Raiders' starting right tackle, making him easily the weakest link on this elite line. Howard, 30, made it through three years of a five-year, $30 million deal and started 39-of-40 games he appeared in for the Silver and Black. He's recovering from offseason shoulder surgery but should be at or near 100 percent. Expect OL-needy teams to give him a call.

Ravens signed QB David Olson.

You're forgiven if you've never heard of Olson, a "Champions Indoor Football" product. This could be a prank and we would be none the wiser. Now 25, "Olson" rode the pine behind Andrew Luck at Stanford before transferring to Clemson, where he attempted three passes as a senior in 2014. Per NFL.com's Ian Rapoport, Olson's college coach Jim Harbaugh vouched for him to brother John Harbaugh. Another Jim Harbaugh player, Colin Kaepernick, remains a free agent. Olson is a camp arm who will be cut once Joe Flacco (back) gets healthy.

Cowboys owner Jerry Jones expects a decision "imminently" in the league's Ezekiel Elliott investigation.

"Of course, I don’t know what that will be and wouldn’t want to have conjecture in any way involving that," Jones added. "There’s no domestic violence involved here." Rumors about a potentially lengthy suspension have been running rampant, but the reality is, most of the parties involved seem in the dark. Fantasy owners can only sit tight and wait.
