Coach Chuck Pagano said he'd like to have a "bell cow" at running back this season.

In the same breath, Pagano said he isn't against employing a running back by committee. The message is clear. Ideally, Trent Richardson will find the form that made him the third overall pick in the 2012 draft, and become a 260-carry workhorse this season. But he'll be on a short leash, with Ahmad Bradshaw and Vick Ballard both ready to fill roles if Richardson faceplants again. For now, we've placed T-Rich 26th among running backs in our Draft Guide -- a ranking that will rise if he separates in camp.

Tom Brady and the NFL failed to reach a settlement Monday in their dispute over Brady's four-game suspension.

The talks went nowhere and the hearing was over quickly. Fox Sports' Mike Garafolo reports a decision from U.S. District Judge Richard Berman is expected today or tomorrow. We are finally nearing the end of this ridiculous saga.

Steelers acquired K Josh Scobee from the Jaguars.

With Garrett Hartley suffering a potentially serious injury in the third preseason game, the Steelers needed to add another option. Scobee has been the Jaguars kicker since 2004. Jason Myers should take over the kicking duties in Jacksonville, while Scobee suddenly becomes fantasy-relevant in Pittsburgh.

Bills released RB Fred Jackson.

This one is a shocker. Jackson missed most of training camp with a hamstring injury, but showed he still had juice in his legs in the third preseason game, rushing five times for 48 yards and a touchdown. Releasing Jackson suggests the Bills are confident Karlos Williams (illness) and LeSean McCoy (hamstring) will be ready Week 1. An eight-year veteran, Jackson has been with Buffalo his entire career. He should get a long look from teams in need of veteran running back help. The Cowboys, Browns and Patriots could make some sense.

CBS Sports' Jason La Canfora reports the Redskins are not trying to trade Robert Griffin III.

La Canfora confirmed ESPN's report the team was informed Kirk Cousins would be the Week 1 starter, but he denied the team was actively trying to trade Griffin. Despite the lack of trade talk, La Canfora called Griffin's future with the organization "murky at best." Griffin's $16.155 million 2016 option is only guaranteed for injury, so it would be in the Redskins' best interests to keep him out of harm's way this season.

ESPN's Dianna Marie Russini reports the Redskins have named Kirk Cousins as their Week 1 starter.

Over the weekend Russini reported Washington planned to start Cousins Week 1. She has taken it a step further this time by saying the team was informed of the decision to start Cousins this morning. Russini's original report was questioned by other national reporters like the NFL Network's Albert Breer, so it will be interesting to see if this one gets any pushback. It is becoming clear Robert Griffin III's time in Washington is nearing its end.

The Washington Post reports Redskins owner Dan Snyder is not blocking a trade of Robert Griffin III.

A report from ESPN suggested coach Jay Gruden and GM Scot McCloughan would like to move on from Griffin, but they were meeting resistance from ownership. A source told The Washington Post the report was "100 percent wrong." Even if Washington wanted to move Griffin, they would struggle to find any takers. It would probably be best for all involved if Griffin moved on, but it is hard to see Washington cutting a quarterback they traded the farm for just three years ago.

Carson Palmer completed 8-of-22 passes for 103 yards and two interceptions in the Cardinals' third preseason game.

Bruce Arians let the ones play longer than expected because the offense struggled so much. Palmer was intercepted on Arizona's first drive, getting picked on an errant wide throw by Raiders FS Nate Allen along the sideline. The rest of the first half, Arizona's offensive line was bullied by Khalil Mack & Co., leaving Palmer without clean passing-game looks and forcing him into inaccurate throws. Palmer was picked again by Allen toward the end of the second quarter. Through three preseason contests, Palmer is 15-of-33 passing for 268 yards, one touchdown, and the two picks. He's been sacked five times among 38 dropbacks.

Yahoo! Sports' Charles Robinson reports the Cowboys believe Darren McFadden is the "best of the bunch" at running back.

Robinson reports the Cowboys are committed to a running back by committee, but he added Dallas would have likely ridden McFadden's hot hand on Saturday night had it been a regular season game. Owner Jerry Jones has talked up Joseph Randle all offseason, but it appears McFadden has a real chance to lead the team in touches if he can stay healthy. The uncertainty surrounding the situation makes Randle un-draftable in the fourth round.

According to Yahoo's Charles Robinson, the Cowboys' plan to use an RBBC backfield is "not a bluff," and the rotation will be a "committee in the purest NFL form."

Per Robinson, "the Cowboys are adamant that their elite offensive line can be the glue that elevates a collection of parts into a greater whole." In other words, the Cowboys are banking on their O-Line and less on the talent of their backfield, which is questionable to be kind with Joe Randle, Darren McFadden, and Lance Dunbar vying for work. Had Saturday night's preseason game been a regular season one, Robinson believes the Cowboys "would have ridden McFadden's hot hand," despite Randle starting the game. Robinson guesses none of the Cowboys' backs will rush for more than 850 yards this season.

Bears released CB Tim Jennings.

The writing was on the wall when Jennings was playing deep into the fourth quarter of Saturday's preseason game against the Bengals. Jennings started the Bears' first two preseason games, but was generally ineffective and played behind Alan Ball and Sherrick McManis last night. Jennings started all but six games during his five years in Chicago, earning Pro Bowl berths in 2012 and 2013. Only 31, Jennings will certainly get a look from corner-needy teams.

Giants coach Tom Coughlin does not expect Victor Cruz (calf) to practice this week.

The Giants insist the injuries aren't related, but Cruz is coming back from a torn patellar tendon, an injury that frequently leads to "compensation" injuries in other areas of the body. Cruz has no known timetable for return.
