Jaguars WR Cecil Shorts is expected to miss "several weeks" with a hamstring strain.

The injury forced Shorts from practice on Friday. Injuries have become a bugaboo for Shorts, who missed most of OTAs and all of minicamp with a hamstring injury and has been limited by injuries each of the last two seasons. Shorts should be ready for the start of the season, but it is hard to be confident he will play a full 16 in 2014.

ESPN's Adam Schefter reports Kenny Stills' back "locked up" at Monday's practice, and the injury is "not considered serious."

It was initially reported as a leg injury for Stills, but after reading practice reports, it was pretty evident Stills was grabbing at his back after some end-zone work. Consider him day to day. Stills should be fine for Week 1.

Chargers released WR James Jones.

Jones was signed 27 days ago after Stevie Johnson's season-ending knee injury. He was expected to serve as the Bolts' No. 3 receiver, but Jones never got comfortable out west. Tyrell Williams is the overwhelming favorite to be San Diego's third receiver. Jones might get another shot with a different club in-season, but his playing days are numbered at 32 years old. He's been cut by the Chargers, Raiders, and Giants over the last two offseasons.

MMQB's Albert Breer believes there's a "realistic possibility" the 49ers put Colin Kaepernick "on ice" for all of the 2016 season.

In doing so, the 49ers would protect themselves from Kaepernick potentially injuring himself, which would then result in Kap unlocking more guaranteed money in his contract if he suffers a severe injury. It would also mean Kaepernick wouldn't dress on game days, which wouldn't allow him to visibly protest anymore National Anthems. The Niners can save $16.9 million against the cap next offseason by designating Kap as a post-June 1 cut. In the "icing" scenario, rookie Jeff Driskel would likely serve as Blaine Gabbert's backup to open the year.

NFL Network's Jane Slater reports the Broncos have contacted the Cowboys regarding a trade of Mark Sanchez.

That's much different than the Cowboys contacting the Broncos. According to Slater, the Cowboys aren't interested in Sanchez at his current $4.5 million salary, so he'd have to take a pay cut to facilitate a deal. The Cowboys are looking for an experienced clipboard-holder for rookie Dak Prescott. Sanchez fits the profile. It's become clear Sanchez isn't long for Denver.

Patriots waived C Bryan Stork.

Five days after it was reported the Patriots were releasing Stork, he's now on the streets following a failed trade to the Redskins that was nullified when Stork contemplated retirement and then ultimately failed his physical. Stork has a history of concussions and is known as a hothead. If healthy, he should eventually land on his feet somewhere for a second chance.

NFL Network's Mike Garafolo reports Chiefs KR/RB Knile Davis is still available for trade.

Davis has been on the block since before the draft, but the Chiefs haven't gotten any takers. That's probably unlikely to change over the next week when rosters need to be trimmed to 53. With rookie WR Tyreek Hill taking over as the Chiefs' return man and Davis not a factor on offense, his days in Kansas City are numbered. Davis turns 25 in October and has one year left on his deal.

USA Today's Tom Pelissero reports the Vikings are trying to trade C John Sullivan.

This explains why Sullivan was held out of the Vikings' regular season dress rehearsal. At center, the Vikings are going with Joe Berger, who has history with new OL coach Tony Sparano, and who was excellent as a 16-game starter last year. Sullivan, 31, missed all of 2015 due to multiple back surgeries. If the Vikings can't find a taker, Sullivan will likely be released.

Jordy Nelson (knee) participated in his first full practice of Packers camp on Monday.

Coming off a 2015 ACL tear and early-camp knee tendinitis, Nelson worked with the first team in 11-on-11s after focusing on individual drills in last week's practices. "He looks just like Jordy," Randall Cobb observed. "He caught a deep ball. That’s what he does. It was great to see him out there."

Seahawks released S Brandon Browner.

The Seahawks were trying to convert Browner from a press corner into a safety, and it didn't work. Browner is likely all out of gas at age 32. He has been released by the Patriots, Seahawks, and Saints over the past two offseasons.

Panthers acquired P Andy Lee and a seventh-round draft pick from the Browns in exchange for P Kasey Redfern and a fourth-round pick in 2018.

The Panthers needed a punter, and the rebuilding Browns have been stocking up on draft picks since Sashi Brown and Paul DePodesta took over. Lee, 34, was acquired via trade by the old Ray Farmer regime for a 2017 seventh-round pick. The Brown-DePodesta regime gets a draft-pick upgrade and will move forward with a cheaper punter. Lee is owed a $2.83 million base salary this season.

Kendall Wright re-strained his hamstring at Monday's practice.

He's ruled out for Thursday's preseason finale. Wright has missed almost all of Titans camp with hamstring woes, and could fall to fourth or even fifth on the wide receiver depth chart to begin the year. The Titans are likely going to keep Andre Johnson and Harry Douglas behind Rishard Matthews and Tajae Sharpe. Tre McBride has also made a case for a roster spot this August.
